As a high school student, I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of the English language and the endless possibilities it presents for selfexpression. The elective course English for Winners: MicroPoints has been a pivotal experience in my academic journey, teaching me not just the language but also the art of winning through the mastery of its subtleties. The course, as its name suggests, focuses on the minute details that can make a significant difference in ones command over English. Its not just about learning new words or mastering complex grammar rules its about understanding the nuances that elevate your language skills to a level where you can express yourself with precision and elegance. One of the most impactful lessons from the course was on the power of context. We were taught that the same word can carry different meanings depending on how it is used. For instance, the word right can refer to a direction, a moral correctness, or an entitlement, depending on the context in which it is placed. This realization made me more attentive to the way words are used in sentences and how they can change the entire meaning of a statement.Another enlightening aspect of the course was the emphasis on idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs. English is rich with idiomatic expressions that can be quite perplexing for learners. The course helped demystify these expressions by providing us with their literal and figurative meanings, and how to use them effectively in conversation and writing. For example, the phrase break the ice is not about physically breaking ice, but ratherabout initiating a conversation or easing tension in a social situation. The course also delved into the importance of tone and style in writing. We learned how to adapt our writing to different audiences and purposes, whether it be a formal business letter, an informal email to a friend, or an academic essay. Understanding the appropriate tone and style is crucial for effective communication and can greatly enhance the impact of your message. Moreover, the course introduced us to the concept of micropoints in language learning. These are the small, often overlooked elements of language that can make a big difference in fluency and accuracy. For instance, the correct use of articles, prepositions, and conjunctions can elevate the quality of your speech and writing. The course encouraged us to pay attention to these micropoints and incorporate them into our language use.One of the most memorable activities from the course was the Language Detective assignment. We were tasked with identifying and analyzing the use of micropoints in various texts, from newspaper articles to song lyrics. This activity not only sharpened our observational skills but also deepened our understanding of the language. The course also provided practical opportunities to apply what we learned. We participated in debates, roleplays, and presentations, which allowed us to practice our language skills in reallife situations. These activities were not only fun but also incredibly beneficial in building our confidence andcommunication skills. In conclusion, the English for Winners: MicroPoints elective course has been an enriching experience that has significantly improved my English language skills. It has taught me the importance of attention to detail, the power of context, and the value of adapting my language use to different situations. The course has not only made me a better English speaker and writer but also a more perceptive and effective communicator.。

Dear editor,I'd like to tell you something about the importance4 of reciting Tang Poems and Song Ci. Nowadays, many teenagers spend lots of time playing computer games instead of reading or reciting Tang Poems and Song Ci. They believe that Tang Poems and Song Ci are too far away from their daily life and they can get more out of modern inventions.I think we teenagers should set aside some time each day to recite Tang Poems and Song Ci. As we know, reciting them enables us to understand the history behind them and appreciate the beauty of language deeply. More importantly, we can learn to think about the way the poets and Ci writers lived.I hope my suggestions are of use to those students who show little interest in Tang Poems and Song Ci.Yours sincerely,Li Hua 【Module3】中西方饮食【饮食变化】近几年随着经济不断发展,人们的饮食习惯发生了很大变化,请以Changes of People's Diet 为题,写一篇短文,说明变化的现象,分析造成变化的原因,并展望未来,提出希望。
