探究四:Language Points:1.Do you always celebrate holidays with your whole family?你总是和全家人一起庆祝节日吗?(1)holiday意为“假日;节日”。
the school holidays 学校的假期the summer holidays暑假on holiday在休假中Mr. Smith is on holiday at present.目前史密斯先生正在度假。
注意:holiday是英国用法,美国用vacation代替holiday。
辨析:festival与holidayfestival除了指一年一度举行宗教仪式的节日外,还指在某一地域全世界人民普遍参与的有特别意义的聚会或庆祝活动,如春节Spring Festival,中秋节Mid-Autumn Festival等;而holiday则侧重指“休假”,表示“假日”“假期”。
the Christmas holidays 圣诞节假期the Spring Festival holidays 春节假期(2)whole可用作形容词和名词。
①adj.全部的;所有的;完整的;齐全的the whole nation整个民族a whole set of Lu Xun’s Complete Works一套完整的《鲁迅全集》②n.全部;全体;整体I have finished the whole of it.我全部完成了。
Nature is a whole.大自然是一个整体。
as a whole大体上,总体上来说辨析:whole与all(1)whole一般与普通形容词一样,将冠词、物主代词等限定词放在其前,而all要把限定词等放在其后。
all my life=my whole life 我的一生the whole school=all the school 整所学校(2)whole一般不修饰不可数名词或物质名词,修饰可数名词复数时一般在前加数量词,而all能用于各种情况中。
three whole days“三整天”,a11 the money",所有的钱”,不说the whole money。

thank 名词“谢意;感谢”Please send my thank to your wife. 请向你的妻子转达我的谢意。
thank 动词“感谢;谢谢”Thank you all the same.不管怎样,还是要谢谢你。
辨析:thanks to与thanks for的用法异同thanks to为习语介词,thanks不可以改为thank you,to后也不接动词原形,这个短语表示原因,意为“由于”、“多亏”,to表示感谢的对象。
例如:Thanks to the English language,we can learn a lot from other countries.由于英语这门语言,我们能从其它国家学到很多东西。
thanks for是客套用语,thanks相当于thank you ,意为“因……而感谢”,for强调为何而感谢,其后可接名词或v-ing。
例如:Thanks for your help.谢谢你的帮助。
