六、转态译法

所谓转态译法，就是在翻译过程中把原文中的被 动语态转换为译文中的主动语态，或把原文中的 主动语态转换成译文中的被动语态。一般情况下， 无论是书面语，还是口头语中，英语比汉语用更 多的被动语态。 1. New Zealand had no knowledge of this and had not been consulted on these reported plans. 新西兰不知道这件事，也没人同它商讨过这些传 闻的计划。

一、换序译法


翻译时根据译文的语言习惯，对原文的词序进行 调整，使译文做到最大程度上的通顺，这就是换 序译法。 1. It’s good you are so considerate. 你想得这样周到是很好的。 （×这是很好的你想得这样周到。）（主语从句 语序）

二、断句译法



把一些长句断开来翻译就叫断句译法。 1. It is very easy to bring some books from the bookstores and libraries, but to learn the knowledge in the books and put the knowledge into practice is by no means an easy job. 从书店和图书馆带一些书回来是轻而易举的。// 然而，从书中学得知识并把这些知识运用到实践 中去就决不是那么简单的事情。 (拆开并例句)

四. 形式上否定，意义上肯定 形式上否定， 有些英语句子或短语形式上是否定的，意 义上却是肯定的。这类句子一般可译成汉 语的肯定句。现分述如下：

1．“nothing” 有时意为“零”、“正好”。 如： 1) Multiply 6 by nothing, and the result is nothing. 六乘以零等于零。 2) He is five foot nothing. 他整整五英尺高。

三. 双重否定 双重否定指两个否定词并用，否定同一个 单词，或者一个否定词否定另一个词，其 否定意义互相抵消而取得肯定意义。汉译 时可译成肯定句。如：

One could not hunt whales at will without risking their extermination or catch herring limitlessly without threatening survival of the stock. 分析：that引导的从句that for all their vastness, the resources to be found in the oceans and seas were not inexhaustible是 realization的同位语从句。介词for相当于in spite of。句子中的 not inexhaustible为双重否定结构。第二句中也用了not without 双重否定结构。有否定词without的双重否定结构，翻译时一般 可以译成肯定句。但是，在需要加强语气的时候，也可以译成 双重否定句。 译文：人们越来越认识到，尽管海洋无边无垠，但其资源并不 是取之不尽用之不竭的。人们不可能随心所欲地捕鲸而不使其 遭致灭绝的危险，或无限制地捕捞鲱鱼而不威胁到该物种的繁 衍生息。

这种差异首先反映在词汇上。

与翻译关系比较密切的因素主要包括词义、词形，和词的音律和节奏等。

谓语的选择和确定，须兼顾表意和构句的二重需 要，即考虑英语语法规范、搭配习惯和逻辑关系等 问题。 所谓“表意的需要”，指选择谓语时，除考虑该 词语本身能否准确传达原文意义外，还要关照其与 主语的语义关联，亦即逻辑的关联，以及主谓词语 的搭配。此外，谓语动词和宾语的搭配，连系动词 和表语的搭配，以及这两种搭配产生的修辞效果， 也都影响和制约谓语的选择。 而“构句的需要”，则指谓语的确定必须符合英 语语法的需要，必须遵循主谓一致的原则，符合英 语语法规范。
2. 考虑谓语表意的需要时，还必须关照其与主语的语义 关联以及主谓词语的搭配。请看下列例句： 世纪之交，中国外交空前活跃。 a. The turn of the century finds China most active in its diplomatic arena. b. At the turn of the century, China is very active in its diplomatic activities.
例：液体的形状总是随着容器的变化而变化，因为 液体没有自己的固定形状。换言之，无论你把它 放在什么样的容器中，它的形状总是和容器的内 壁完全一样。 Since a liquid has no definite shape of its own, it varies in shape from container to container. In other words, in whatever container it is poured, the liquid will take exactly the interior shape of the container. 译文和原文一样含两个主从复合句。遵照英语语 法对主谓一致和动词时态、语态的要求，谓语分别 译为第三人称单数一般现在时的has和varies、一般 现在时被动语态的is poured和将来时态的will take。

形容词可以: 1）说明感觉或性质（lonely,honest）； 2) 告知国籍或来历 (German,Gothic); 3) 描述特点（young,old); 4）说明大小和尺寸（tall，long）; 5) 表明颜色（red,crimon）； 6) 说明质地（wooden,cotton); 7） 描述外形(rectangular)； 8）表达判断或观点（fantastic,boring)，
3. 在英语中做状语的一般是副词，但汉语中的形容词，特别 是状态形容词即可以修饰名词，也可以修饰动词， 如“远远的/地”、“好好的/地”、“慢腾腾的/地”“规规 矩矩的/地”等。
三、英、汉语形容词的位置差异
（Position）
汉语 —— 分析语言，句法关系由语序和功能词表示， 在词序上没有或基本没有变化。 英语——综合-分析语言，词序比汉语更富有弹性和灵 活性。 汉语形容词作定语一般在被修饰词的前面；英语形容词 作定语时，多数在所修饰词的前面，但也有部分的放在 后面；还有个别的前后均可，但含义可能不一样。
他是一位合适的演员。
He is an actor suitable for the part. 他是一位适合演这个角色的演员
2)当形容词修饰带-body ,- one ,- thing ,- where等这类复合不 定代词和不定副词时，定语需后置。 He want to get someone reliable to help in the work.
5. 在英语里，绝大多数形容词既可以用做定语，又可以用做 表语。但个别形容词只能做定语，如main，chief等；而有 些只能做表语， 如 asleep, alive, alone, afloat, afraid, aware, akin to, content (with) 6. 英语形容词不能直接作句子的主语、宾语，需要在形容词 前加定冠词“the”之后可以泛指一类人，与谓语动词的复 数连接。 例如：the old（老年人） 、the young（年轻人） the rich（富人）、the poor（穷人）。 有关国家和民族的形容词加上定冠词可以指这个民族的整 体，与动词的复数连用。 例如：In ancient times, the Chinese invented the compass. 在古代，中国人发明了指南针。

4. 运用英语的分词短语 1）工人站在工厂外面耐心等候。 The workers stood outside the factory, waiting patiently. 2） 学生说说笑笑走进礼堂。 The students, talking and laughing, filed into the auditorium.
(二)汉语兼语句的英译 1. 将主谓结构用非谓语动词译出 1）我们邀请陈教授就当前国际形势作报告。 We have invited Professor Chen to give a talk on the current international situation. 2） 他命令部队撤出大城市。 He ordered his troops to pull out from the big cities.
2. 运用英语的动词不定式 1）农民进城卖菜。 The peasants go to town to sell their vegetables. 2) 大家自觉地排队买票。 People voluntarily lined up to buy tickets.
3. 运用英语的介词短语 1）他们讳疾忌医。 They hide their sickness for fear of treatment. 2) 女孩子瞪大眼睛看着不速之客。 The girl stared at the unexpected guest with wide-opened eyes.
翻译练习： 我的生活大概不会很长久罢。然而在短促的过去 的回顾中却有一盏明灯，照彻了我的灵魂的黑暗， 使我的生存有一点光彩。这盏灯就是友情。我应该 感谢它，因为靠了它我才能够活到现在；而且把旧 家庭给我留下的阴影扫除了的也正是它。 The length of my days will not be unlimited.
