本手册较为详细地介绍了NK1系列PLC的系统构成、性能、规格、产品的外形尺寸、安装设置、运行准备、维护检修等方面的知识，为用户熟悉并应用该产品提供一个必需的资料。
NK1系列PLC是一种整体式可扩展PLC，由本体单元、扩展单元、扩展功能板组成完整的PLC 系统，当然单独的一个本体单元也是一个完整的PLC系统。
NK1系列PLC本体单元根据输出点类型的不同，分继电器输出型、晶体管输出型和混合输出型3种；而根据其本体所带I/O点数不同，又分成20点型、40点型、64点型3个子系列。
NK1采用多扩展单元形式的I/O扩展方式，每个本体单元可以扩展最多至14个扩展单元（包括各种普通I/O单元、模拟量I/O单元、高速计数单元等等），并可以接入最多2根扩展电缆。
另外40点型、64点型NK1本体单元还带有一个功能板安装位置，用于安装一块功能板，以增强PLC的功能，包括：电池板/普通IO 板/模拟量板/串行通信板等等。
每种功能板上都带有电池安装位置，以用于安装日历时钟数据后备电池。
NK1系统最大I/O点数达520点（本体64点+ 扩展单元32点×14+功能板8点×1）。
