Can you figure out the following terms?“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”,which means “very crowded”.These examples are what we call Chingli sh. When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”,you will be considered “out man”.Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example, a Chinese idiom is translated as “smilence”,a combination of the English words smile and silence.Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at the misuse of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favored by some English-speaking tourists and visitors. Dominic Swire has been living in Beiji ng for a couple of years. He said, “I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it's actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from the Chinese culture.”However, Chinglish will probably become a “cultural relic”in the near future. Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and eliminate Chinglish with in five years. “It is very ridiculous(可笑的) to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barriers for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said. Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish. They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and now it's Chinese's turn.28. What can we call Chinglish?A.The English words which get new Chinese meanings.B.The Chinese words which are difficult to translate.C.The local words preventing foreigners to learn Chinese well.D.The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar.29.Who will be called “out man” according to the passage?A.A person who knows little about Chinglish words.B.A student who hates learning foreign languages.C.A tourist who fails to understand local translations.D.An expert who doesn't support Chinglish at all.30.What is Swire's attitude to Chinglish?A.It can show the humour of Chinese.B.It will attract more foreign tourists.C.It seems part of Chinese culture.D.It helps him to learn Chinese well.31.Chinglish is likely to become a “cultural relic” in Beijing because ________.A.it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and EnglishB.Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and EnglishC.it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreignersD.Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signsDSilvia Maier works at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She and her colleagues invited 51 young men into the lab for 3 hours of tests. They showed each man 180 food items on a computer. Each time, they asked the men to judge how healthy, tasty and appealing the food was. Then the researchers stressed out 29 of the men. They did this by asking each to put one hand in ice water for three minutes. If the water was too unpleasant, the volunteers could remove their hands, but must continue looking into a video camera. The men were also encouraged to put their hands back into the cold water. All the while, a researcher watched and videotaped the ordeal (考验). Another 22 men held one hand in warm water. They were not videotaped.Afterward, the researchers showed each man a series of two food items. They did this 210 times. And before making choices, the men were told to choose the healthier of the two items. When the testing was over, the scientists gave the volunteers a snack. Each man got one of the items he had said that he preferred. Despite being coached to choose healthy foods, the stressed men proved more likely to pick the less healthy. The researchers also performed brain scans of the volunteers. It showed what part of the brain was active as they made their choices. “Our findings indicate that stress affects the decision making,” Maier’s team concluded. And it does this by changing two brain pathways. One affectssensory information, such as taste. The other affects a person’s ability to make decisions such as eating what is good for us.More studies will be needed to confirm the new findings. But the early signs suggest that stress not only makes junk food more appealing, but also weakens the brain’s ability to resist eating it.32. How did the scientists mainly get the result?A. By doing experiments.B. By asking questions.C. By conducting surveys.D. By secret observations.33. The cold water used in the experiment may make men feelA. PleasantB. frightenedC. stressedD.relaxed34. Why did the scientists scan the brains of the volunteers?A. They wanted to find the IQ of them.B. They wanted to observe the activities of their brains.C. They wanted to discover the potential disease of them.D. They wanted to know the health conditions of them.35. What does the last paragraph imply?A. The new Swiss study is the final conclusion.B. Stress may increase self-control in eating.C.It is easy for stressed people to resist tasty foods.D.Stress makes junk food more attractive.第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

You can do it in the old way and listen to one of the radio stations that give regular updates about the traffic situation in Toronto's streets.Seeing the big picture of Toronto's traffic and knowing when and where heavy traffic occurs is a must. From my own experience, there are situations where a quick decision can help you make it in time for an event or a meeting. That's why we prepared three short videos showing the overall traffic situation in Toronto from dawn to night. You can click them and watch. With the help of “Google Maps”,where you can watch the live traffic density all over the world and average traffic data based on past conditions,we were able to provide you with traffic maps for a typical (平常的) Friday.Friday traffic in Toronto is quite fast in the early morning, with only a few hot spots showing up at the major junctions (交叉点) at 7:00 am.The morning traffic jam starts light at 7:30 and the traffic gradually slows down to reach a breaking point at 8:30.The roads are quite free afterwards, only Allen Road is likely to be jammed around lunchtime from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon.It comes as no surprise that Friday afternoon brings heavy traffic as early as 1:30 pm,mainly on the Don Valley Parkway. You won't have a good time getting away from the city from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm,as there is a good chance to get caught in a traffic jam.The traffic in Toronto is quite heavy on a Friday night.I hope you will have a nice Friday night in the city and a safe journey home this Friday!24.By saying “commuting is a rather unpleasant daily necessity”,the writer refers to the fact that ________.A.buses are usually very crowded B.they have to travel a long way to workC.they are often stuck in traffic jams D.they usually cannot do anything on the way to work25.According to Paragraph 2,when you are in a traffic jam,you should ________.A.do nothing but to wait patientlyB.report your situation to a radio stationC.make a quick decision and find another way to goD.relax and enjoy some good radio programs26.What is the last paragraph mainly about?A.What the traffic in Toronto is like for a typical Friday.B.How to avoid heavy traffic on Friday.C.Why the traffic is terrible on Friday.D.What “Google Maps” can do for us.27.Where is this passage taken from?A.A TV program. B.A radio program.C.A travel booklet. D.A website.CYour next car could have two seats, three wheels — two in front and one in the back and a top speed of more than 100 miles per hour. Elio Motors plans to make such a tiny car named the Elio. Its two seats sit front and back instead of side by side. The driver is positioned in the center with the passenger directly behind. The starting price for the car is just $6,800. It has only one door, on the left side, which cuts a few hundred dollars off the manufacturing costs. Having three wheels also makes it cheaper. It has air conditioning, power windows and door locks and an AM/FM radio. More features can be ordered through Elio's long list of suppliers. Elio will also sell the cars directly through its own stores and not through franchised dealers (特约经销商).Paul Elio dreamed as a kid that he would one day own a car company calledElio Motors. In 2008, tired of high gas prices, he started working on a car that burns gas in a more effective way. Equally important to him was creating U.S. manufacturing jobs and making the car inexpensive enough to attract buyers who might otherwis e be stuck in their old, unreliable cars. “Whatever matters to you, this can move the needle on it,” he said.Already, more than 27,000 people have reserved (预订) one. Paul hopes to make 250,000 cars a year by 2016. So far, reservation holders are those who will use the Elio as a second or third car for work. Finally, though, he believes the car will interest high school and college students as well as used-car drivers who want something newer and more reliable.28. Which of the following shows the design of the Elio?(○ = wheel, □ = seat)29. Paragraph 2 shows that the Elio _____.A. will be available in most storesB. is sold at affordable pricesC. has a fixed temperatureD. does no harm to the environment30. The underlined words “move the needle” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “_____”.A. take a chanceB. stand in the wayC. break into piecesD. make a difference31. What would be the best title for the text?A. The history of Elio MotorsB. Cool car or stupid vehicle?C. Paul Elio: a kid with big dreamsD. What car to choose: new or used?DI had an experience some years ago, which taught me something about the ways in which people make a bad situation worse by blaming themselves. One January, I had to hold two funerals on successive days for two elderly women in my community. Both had died “full of years”, as the Bible would say. T heir homes happened to be near each other, so I paid condolence(吊唁) calls on the two families on the same afternoon. At the first home, the son of the deceased(已故的)woman said to me, “If only I had sent my mother to Florida and gotten her out of this cold and snow, she would be alive today. It’s my fault that she died.” At the second home, the son of the other deceased woman said, “If only I hadn’t insisted on my mother’s going to Florida, she would be alive today. That long airplane ride, the sudden change of climate, was more than she could take. It’s my fault that she’s dead.”You see that any time there is a death, the survivors will feel guilty. Because the course of action they took turned out bad, they believe that the opposite course would have turned out better. After all, how could it have turned out any worse? There seem to be two elements involved in our willingness to feel guilty. The first is our pressing need to believe that the world makes sense, that there is a cause for every effect and a reason for everything that happens that leads us to find patterns and connections both where they really exist and where they exist only in our minds. The second element is the view that we are the cause of what happens, especially the bad things that happen. It seems to be a short step from believing that every event has a cause to believe that every disaster is our fault. The roots of this feeling may lie in our childhood.A baby comes to think that the world exists to meet his needs, and that he makes everything happen in it. He wakes up in the morning and summons the rest of the world to its tasks. He cries, and someone comes to attend to him. When he is hungry, people feed him, and when he is wet, people change him. Very often, we do not completely outgrow that childish view that our wishes cause things to happen.32. The author had to conduct the two women’s funerals probably because ______.A. he was an official from the communityB. he had great pity for the deceasedC. he was minister of the local churchD. he wanted to comfort the two families33. People feel guilty for the deaths of their loved ones because _____.A. they had neglected the natural course of eventsB. they didn’t know things often turn in the oppos ite directionC. they couldn’t find a better way to express their sorrowD. they believe that they were responsible34. According to the passage, the underlined part in paragraph 4 probably means that_____.A. there is an explanation for everything in the worldB. everything in the world is predeterminedC. we have to be sensible in order to understand the worldD. the world can be explained in different ways35. What’s the idea of the passage?A. Every story should have a happy ending.B. Never feel guilty all the time because not every disaster is our fault.C. In general, the survivors will feel guilty about the people who passed away.D. Life and death is an unsolved mystery.第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
