Do you know of anyone who uses the truth to deceive (欺骗)? When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important in formation that should be included, he can give you a false picture. For example, some might say, “I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery (彩票). It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for on e hundred dollars!”This guy’s a winner, right? Maybe, maybe not. We then discover that he bought $200 worth of tickets, and only on e was a winner. He’s really a big loser! He didn’t say anything that was false, but he left out important information on purpose. That’s called a half-truth. Half-truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest. Some politicians often use this trick. Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents(对手) says, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state lost one million jobs!” that’s true. However, and honest statement would have been, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.” Advertisers(广告商) will sometimes use half-truths. It’s against the law to make false statements so they try to mislead you with the truth. An advertisement might say, “Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache.” It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company. This kind of deception happens too of often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well.1. How much did the lottery winner lose?A. One hundred dollars.B. Two hundred dollars.C. Three hundred dollars.D. Four hundred dollars.2. We may infer that the author believes people should _______.A. buy lottery ticketsB. make use of half-truthsC. not take anything at face valueD. not trust the Yucky Company3. What do the underline words “net gain” in Paragraph 5 mean?A. final increaseB. big advantageC. large shareD. total saving4. What can we know from the example of the Yucky Pill advertisement?A.False statements are easy to see through.B. B. Half-truths are often used to mislead people.C.Doctors like to act in advertisements.D. D. Advertisements are based on facts.【参考答案】1—4、.A C A B阅读下列短文,从每小题后所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Mr. Smith is a successful businessman. He started as an ordinary office worker, and after years of hard work, he finally established his own company, and was respected by many. One day, Mr. Smith heard a strange sound as he came out of his office. It was the sound of a blind man hitting the ground with a stick. The blind man felt someone in front of him and said, "Dear sir, may I take up a little of your time?" Mr. Smith replied, "I have an important meeting. Just tell me what you want."The blind man reached into his bag and handed Mr. Smith something. "Sir, this lighter costs only 1!"Mr. Smith listened, sighed, then took out a note and handed it to the blind man, "I don't smoke, but I'd like to help you. You may give this lighter to the old cleaner."The blind man felt the bill with his hand. It was a 100 note! "You are the most generous gentleman I have ever met!" said him gratefully.Just as Mr. Smith was about to go, the man started talking again, "I wasn't blind all my life. It was all because of the accident at the Burton Factory!" Mr. Smith was shocked and asked, "Did you lose your sight in that explosion?"The blind man nodded, and continued, "You can't imagine what happened. There was a fire. I managed to rush to the door among the fleeing crowds, but another person shouted, 'I'm still young, I don't want to die!' He pushed me and stepped on my body! I lost my consciousness. When I woke up, I became blind. How unfair!"Suddenly, Mr. Smith's attitude changed. "I'm afraid that's not the case," he said coldly. The blind man was shocked and stared at Mr. Smith with empty eyes. Mr. Smith then said slowly, "I was also a worker at the Burton Factory. You were the one who stepped on me. You were younger than I was, and I will never forget what you said."注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右。

It is hardly surprising that clothing manufacturers(生产商) follow certain uniform standards for various features(特征) of clothes. What seems strange, however, is that the standard adopted for women is the opposite of the one for men. Take a look at the way your clothes button. Men's clothes tend to button from the right, and women's from the left. Considering most of the world's population----men and women----are right-handed, the men's standard would appear to make more sense for women. So why do women's clothes button from the left? History really seems to matter here. Buttons first appeared only on the clothes of the rich in the 17th century, when rich women were dressed by servants. For the mostly right-handed servants, having women's shirts button from the left would be easier. On the other hand, having men's shirts button from the right made sense, too. Most men dressed themselves, and a sword drawn from the left with the right hand would be less likely to get caught in the shirt. Today women are seldom dressed by servants, but buttoning from the left is still the standard for them. Is it interesting? Actually, a standard, once set, resists change. At a time when all women's shirts buttoned from the left, it would have been risky for any single manufacturer to offer women's shirts that buttoned from the right. After all, women had grown so used to shirts which buttoned from the left and would have to develop new habits and skills to switch. Besides, some women might have found it socially awkward to appear in public wearing shirts that buttoned from the right, since anyone who noticed that would believe they were wearing men's shirts.( ) 1. What is surprising about the standard of the clothing industry?A. It has been followed by the industry for over 400 years.B. It is different for men's clothing and women's.C. It woks better with men than with women.D. It fails to consider right-handed people.( ) 2. What do we know about the rich men in the 17th century?A. They tended to wear clothes without buttons.B. They were interested in the historical matters.C. They were mostly dressed by servants.D. They drew their swords from the left.( ) 3. Women's clothes still button from the left today because.A. adopting men's style is improper for womenB. manufacturers should follow standardsC. modern women dress themselvesD. customs are hard to change( ) 4. The passage is mainly developed by.A. analyzing causesB. making comparisonsC. examining differencesD. following the time order【语篇解读语篇解读】本文由男女衣服的不同,分析产生这种不同的原因,并且告诉我们这种不同为语篇解读什么延续到现在.1. 答案 B 【解析】细节理解题. I had been swimming competitively for five years and was ready to quit because I felt I was horrible at it. I was often the only African American at a swimming competition. I kept receiving "Honourable Mentions". Any athlete knows that you don't want to have a bookshelf full of "Honourable Mentions", which you get just because you showed up.One summer day, the day before a big swim meet, I decided to break the news to my grandma that I was quitting the swim team. When I told her of my desire to quit swimming, she looked me into my face, saying firmly but warmly, "Baby, remember these words'Quitters never win and winners never quit.' Your grandmother didn't raise losers or quitters. You go to that meet tomorrow, and you swim like you are a grandchild of mine, you hear?" I was too afraid to say anything but "Yes, ma'am."The next day we arrived at the swim meet late, missing my group of swimmers in the 15/16 age group. My coach insisted I be allowed to swim with the older group. I knew she was including me in the race so our long drive(车程)would not be wasted, and she had no expectations whatsoever(丝毫)that I would attain nothing but the eighth place, only because there were not nine lanes. As I was mounting(走上)the board, all the other girls looked at me. I quickly noticed that these girls were here to do one thing—beat me! All of a sudden my grandma's words rang in my head: "Quitters never win and winners never quit. You swim like you are a grandchild of mine. Quitters never win and winners never quit..." "Yes, grandma, I will swim like I am a grandchild of yours," I said to myself.Paragraph 1:SPLASH(扑通一声)! I was swimming harder than I'd ever swum before. ________Paragraph 2:Just then, cheers and claps overwhelmed me. ________【答案】SPLASH(扑通一声)! I was swimming harder than I'd ever swum before. As I drew my right arm back, I noticed I was tied with one person. I assumed we were battling for eighth place and I refused to finish dead last, so I added more kick on the last 200 yards. I hit the wall and looked to the left and to the right for the swimmers who had beat me, but no one was there. They must have gotten out of the water already.Just then, cheers and claps overwhelmed me. I raised my head to see my coach screaming hysterically(歇斯底里地). My eyes followed her pointing finger and I couldn't believe what I saw. The other swimmers had just reached the halfway point of the pool! That day, at age 15, I broke the national 17/18-year-old 400-freestyle record. I hung up my honourable mentions and replaced them with a huge trophy. "Yes, grandma, you're right. Quitters never win and winners never quit."【解答】SPLASH(扑通一声)! I was swimming harder than I'd ever swum before. As I drew my right arm back, I noticed I was tied with one person. We were enjoying the summer vacation on the beaches on Beautiful Gulf shores Alabama. My daughter was about 6 years old and the youngest was 3. We bought a two-man inflatable(需充气的)boat thinking this would make for a really fun day for the two girls. And so it did. The two of them played all day in that boat. Not far from us, a middle-aged man was taking a sunbath, greeting us with a smile now and then. Later the little one got tired and was beginning to look pretty pink with too much sun. So, I took her to our spot on the sand and placed an umbrella over her as my older girl continued to play in the boat. I probably became a little too involved with my younger daughter and spent a little too much time not noticing what was going on the small distance to the water. But as I looked, I became concerned because I saw the little boat had moved far out from the shore with my oldest daughter in it. I called to her to come in closer to shore but sheseemed to be too frightened to accomplish just that. We hadn't thought to buy any oars (桨)for the boat. Her little arms were too short to reach across the boat and into the water. All she could do was paddle(蹚水)hard to one side and was just making small circles.About this time, others on the beach noticed this but no one seemed to be doing anything but watching. Being a pitiful swimmer, I was standing as far out in the water as I could. Shouting instructions to her with no success, I watched her float farther out to sea and prayed to God. "Lord. I don't believe you gave me this beautiful child for me to watch her float out to sea. Lord, please save her!"注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

I was born and grew up in a small seaside town. In my childhood, I often played on the beach with my elder sister, chasing(追逐)the waves and enjoying the seaside scenery. One sunny summer afternoon, my sister and I were playing on a big rock quite a distance from the beach. We were so happy that we didn't notice the water rising. When we decided to go back, we were shocked to find that the rock had almost been covered by water and there was no way back to the shore. Meanwhile, the wind blew harder and harder. We got into a panic, waving and shouting crazily towards the shore. Suddenly, I slipped(滑)and fell into the sea. My sister stretched out her hand to catch hold of me. However, she could not stay still, and slid off the rock into the sea, too."Help! Help!" We cried. I could feel my body tingling(酸麻)as I tried to breathe for air. I attempted to swim back to the rock, but the water was too deep and the waves were too strong. What made things worse was that the rough water made it almost impossible for anyone to hear our cries. Tears mixed with the water as I struggled in the sea. My sister, although using all her strength, wasn't able to pull me in. Instead, she was being pushed apart from me by the big waves. The two of us, scared to death, kept crying.Para 1:Luckily, two boys playing on the beach happened to see us. ________Para 2:Fortunately, the two boys managed to find a lifeguard. ________【答案】Luckily, two boys playing on the beach happened to see us. They quickly found a stick nearby and approached us cautiously, hand in hand. They tried to pull us ashore with the stick. But the stick was too short for us to reach. Worse still, the wind was getting so strong that the two boys were rocked from side to side, unable to stand steadily. Eventually, they had no choice but to go back to the shore to look for other people to help us.Fortunately, the two boys managed to find a lifeguard. Having learned what was happening, the lifeguard rushed fearlessly against the strong wind and huge waves. Such an experienced swimmer was he that he reached us in no time. He grabbed my arm and quickly carried me to the shore, where he left me taken care of by the two boys. Then, without delay, he returned to save my sister. We were so blessed to be alive and heartily thankful to that courageous lifeguard and the two boys who had saved our lives!【解答】Luckily, two boys playing on the beach happened to see us. I lost my sight when I was four years old by falling off a box car in a freight yard in Atlantic City and landing on my head. Now I am thirty two.I can slightly remember the brightness of sunshine and what color red is.It would be wonderful to see again, but a calamity(灾难) can do strange things to people. It occurred to me the other day that I might not have come to love life as I do if I hadn't been blind.I believe in life now.I am not so sure that I would have believed in it so deeply, otherwise.I don't mean that I would prefer to go without my eyes.I simply mean that the loss of them made me appreciate the more what I had left. The hardest lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself. That was basic. If I hadn't been able to do that, I would have collapsed and become a chair rocker on the front porch for the rest of my life. When I say belief in myself I am not talking about simply the kind of self confidence that helps me down an unfamiliar staircase alone. That is part of it.But I mean something bigger than that: an assurance that I am, despite imperfections, a real, positive person; that somewhere in the sweeping, intricate(错综复杂的) pattern of people there is a special place where I can make myself fit.It took me years to discover and strengthen this assurance. It had to start with the simplest things.Once a man gave me an indoor baseball.I thought he was making fun of me and I was hurt."I can't use this." I said."Take it with you," he urged me, "and roll it around." The words stuck in my head."Roll it around! "By rolling the ball I could hear where it went. This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal I had thought impossible: playing baseball. At Philadelphia's Overbrook School for the Blind I invented a successful variation of baseball. We called it ground ball. All my life I have set ahead of me a series of goals and then tried to reach them, one at a time.I had to learn my limitations. It was no good trying for something that I knew at the start was wildly out of reach because that only invited the bitterness of failure.I would fail sometimes anyway but on the average I made progress.1.We can learn from the beginning of the passage that _______A.the author lost his sight because of a car crash.B.the author wouldn't love life if the disaster didn't happen.C.the disaster made the author appreciate what he had.D.the disaster strengthened the author's desire to see.2.What's the most difficult thing for the author?A. How to adjust himself to reality.B.Building up assurance that he can find his place in life.C.Learning to manage his life alone.D.How to invent a successful variation of baseball.3.According to the context, “a chair rocker on the front porch” in paragraph 3 means that the author __________A.would sit in a rocking chair and enjoy his life.B.would be unable to move and stay in a rocking chair.C.would lose his will to struggle against difficulties.D.would sit in a chair and stay at home.4.According to the passage, the baseball and encouragement offered by the man _____ A.hurt the author's feeling.B.gave the author a deep impression.C.directly led to the invention of ground ball.D.inspired the author.5.What is the best title for the passage?A.A Miserable LifeB.Struggle Against DifficultiesC.A Disaster Makes a Strong PersonD.An Unforgettable Experience【参考答案】1---5、CBCDC阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

【2013界内蒙古巴市一中一模】Time and how we experience it have always puzzled us.Physicists have created fascinating theories, but their time is measured by a pendulum (钟摆) and is not psychological time, which leaps with little regard to the clock or calendar. As some-one who understood the distinction observed, "When you sit with a nice girl for two hours it seems like a minute, but when you sit on a hot stove, a minute seems like two hours."Psychologists have long noticed that larger units of time, such as months and years, fly on swifter wings as we age. They also note that the more time is structured with schedules and appointments, the more rapidly it seems to pass. For example, a dayat the office flies compared with a day at the beach.Since most of us spend fewer days at the beach and more at the office as we age, an increase in structured tune could well be to blame for why time seems to speed up as we grow older.Expectation and familiarity also make time seem to flow more rapidly.Almost all of us have had the experience of driving somewhere we’ve never been before. Surrounded by unfamiliar scenery, wit h no real idea of when we’ll arrive, we experience the trip as lasting a long time. But the return trip, although exactly as long, seems to take far less time. The novelty of the outward journey has become routine. Thus taking a different route on occasions can often help slow the clock.
