产品说明书种类繁多，常见的有电子产品说明书、药品说明书、 化妆品说明书和食品说明书。
（一）电子产品说明书（User Manual）
电子产品说明书在日常生活中比较常见，除了满足一般说明书 共有的“说明性”、“合规性”、“专业性”和“可读性”的 特点之外，电子产品说明书的翻译还具有以下的特点：
译文：配料表：全麦小麦、麦麸、糖、全麦燕麦、红糖、玉米糖 浆、烤燕麦、麦芽糖浆、脱脂奶、维生素 E 等。
此外，药品说明书可能包含人体器官名称（“勺状软骨”、“半 规管”、“下丘脑”等），机械产品说明书可能包含多种钢材名 称（“角钢”、“螺纹钢”、“低碳钢”等），食品说明书可能 包含食品添加剂名称（“山梨酸钾”、“果葡萄浆”、“碳酸氢 钠”等）。在翻译该类文本时不应望文生义，应查询相关专业词 典并且最好请有经验的专业人员阅读校对。

【分析】产品说明书中使用的词汇较之生活用词更加严谨和庄 重，有利于增强产品说明书的正规性和可靠性。
●意译法（Free Translation）
意译法是指根据原文的信息含义使用意义等同的目的语来表 达。为了使译文自然贴切，符合读者的语言习惯，在翻译产品说 明书时常采用意译法，以便读者能准确理解原文，不易引起误会。 【例4-14】Drive motor 驱动电动机 【分析】“drive”一词在生活用语中为“驾驶”之意，但在科 技英语中应翻译为“驱动”。
产品说明书的词汇特点
●普通词汇专业化 产品说明书是一种相当专业的应用文体。尤其是工业、机械、 医药类产品说明书中含有大量的专业术语和称谓，具有极强的专业 性和科学性。同时，普通词汇在产品说明书中也经常被赋予新的涵 义。 【例4-2】 film指“薄膜”而非“电影”；pig指“生铁”而非 “猪”。
【分析】上述词汇都是英语中的常用词汇，但在不同的行业领 域，其意义却发生了变化，与常规意义出入较大，甚至完全不同， 具有很强的专业性，需要结合相关的专业知识来理解。
●合成词的使用 产品说明书通常都会涉及到相关领域的专业术语，很多术语 并没有现成的单词来表达，需要通过词缀法和拼缀法等英语构词 法来合成新词。 【例4-5】 hi-tech (high technology) 高新技术 colorimeter（color﹢meter）色度计
【分析】上述合成词都由两个独立的词汇组合而成，不受语 法的约束，比较灵活多变。
