特殊句型翻译：
1, 与其说…不如…
1) sb/sth is more A than B表示“与其说sb/sth是B，不如说是A”
eg:He is more an artist than a philosopher.
与其说他是位哲学家，不如说他是位艺术家。
2) not so much...as“与其说……不如说”
e.g. Science moves forward, they say, not so much through the insights of
great men of genius as because of more ordinary things like improved
techniques and tools.(1994年真题)
他们说，科学的发展与其说源于天才伟人的真知灼见，不如说源于改进了的技术和工具等更
为普通的东西。
【更多例句】：1.他去法国与其说是观光不如说去考察。
He goes to France not so much for sightseeing as for inspection.
2. 更不用说 not to mention 与 let alone, much less
1) not to mention：在列举的几项后再加一项，前后是并列关系，多为肯定句中
使用。相当于as well as，如：
e.g. Pollution has a negative effect on the health of everyone living in the city,
not to mention the damage to the environment.
e.g. It's too far to walk, not to mention the fact that it'll probably be closed by
now anyway.
2) let alone：多用于否定句中，后加的一项是递进关系，是较之前的更加不可能
的。目的是强调前一项不可能，如：
The baby can't even sit up yet, let alone walk!
当然这只是大致区别，两者区别其实是相当小的。
3) much less
e.g. The father can't even discipline himself much less setting a good example
to his children.
e.g. The old man can hardly walk, much less run. 这位老人几乎不能行走，
更不用说跑了。
e.g. John can hardly understand arithmetic, much less algebra. 约翰连算术都
不会，更别提代数了。
3. 倍数的翻译
（一） A is N times as great（long，much，…）as B. （①）
A is N times greater （longer， more，…）than B. （②）
A is N times the size （length， amount，…）of B. （③）
以上三句都应译为：A的大小（长度，数量，……）是B的N倍[或A比B大（长，
多，……）N-1倍].
e.g. This book is three times as long as （three times longer than/three
times the length of） that one. 这本书的篇幅是那本书的3倍（即长两倍）。
（二）double （增加1倍），treble（增加2倍），quadruple（增加3倍）。

e.g. The efficiency of the machines has been more than trebled or quadrupled.
这些机器的效率已提高了2倍或3倍多。
（三） A is one and a half times as much （large， 1ong，…）as B.）（11）
应译为：A比B多（大，长……）一半（即A是B的一倍半）。
英语中表示倍数减少的表达方法
（一）a is n times as small （light，slow，…）as b.
a is n times smaller （lighter， slower，…） than b.
以上两句均应译为：a的大小（重量，速度，……）是b的1/n[或a比b小
（轻，慢，……）（n-1）/n].
e.g. The hydrogen atom is near1y l6 times as light as the oxygen atom.
氢原子的重量约为氧原子的1/16（即比氧原子约轻15/16）。
（二）decrease n times/n——fold
decrease by n times
以上均译为：减少到1/n[或：减少（n-1）/n].
decrease常被reduce，shorten，go／slow down等词替代。
e.g. Switching time of the new-type transistor is shortened 3 times.
新型晶体管的开关时间缩短了1/3（即缩短到2/3）。
