Let me tell you all about my fun day exploring Dianchi Lake!First, we took a boat tour around the lake itself. The lake is absolutely ginormous - it's over 100 square kilometers! That's about the size of 20,000 football fields put together. As we cruised around the lake on the tour boat, I got to see everything up close. The water was a pretty green-blue color and there were lots of little islands and beaches dotting the shoreline. Our guide told us there are over 30 islands in the lake!One of the coolest islands we passed was called Xiasha Island. It's right in the middle of the lake and has this awesome temple called Dachengqing Temple built back in the 1600s. The temple looked so peaceful sitting there surrounded by the bright blue water. Our guide said monks used to live there and study Buddhism. I tried to imagine what it would be like being a monk living alone on that tiny island years and years ago.As we continued around the lake, I spotted tons of birds swooping over the water. The guide said over 200 species of birds live around Dianchi, including some very rare ones. No wonder there were so many people visiting!After hiking back down, we stopped at a market selling all kinds of fresh foods grown by local farmers. They even had stinky tofu which is thisreally smelly fermented bean curd that Kunming is famous for. I decided to be brave and try a piece...and it actually wasn't that bad! Just a little bit funky.For lunch, we ate at a restaurant right on the shore of the lake. We had so many yummy Yunnan dishes like steamed potatoes in a spicy sauce, a hearty pork and rice soup, and these funny looking little corn cakes. While we ate, we could see fisherman in little wooden boats casting their nets out into the lake. Our guide told us that over 3,000 people make their living fishing on Dianchi! After we finished, I wandered down to the edge of the water and stuck my toes in - it was cold but felt really nice after the hot day.The very last stop was to visit a village called Xishan where some of the Hui minority people live. The Hui are a Chinese ethnic group who are Muslim. We wandered through their little neighborhood which had white houses, cobblestone streets, and the cutest little shops and cafes everywhere. This is a protected nature reserve for wetlands plants and animals. The park has educational signs explaining all about the different environments like mudflats, reed marshes, and deep water areas that migratory birds need to survive. 旨在清除长期积存在湖中的污染沉积物，与其它工程措施一起，为滇池的水质和生态恢复发挥效益。

宝象河和流入宝丰湾的新河是滇池流域汇水量较大且流经昆明市区的河流，由于新河、宝象河长期携带污染物汇入滇池，在入湖口处沉积大量污泥，形成滇池外海水域严重的内污染源。

目前宝象河整治工程已经结束，城市的污水不再向宝象河排放，其它河流治理也将陆续完成。

外源控制力度提高以后，外海北部及主要入湖河口的内源对水质的影响更加严重，因此应及时疏挖宝丰湾、宝象河河口存积的污染底泥，清除外海北部的主要内污染源。

为了进一步清除外海主要入湖河口及重点区域的内污染源，巩固和扩大疏挖工程的成果，昆明市滇池投资有限责任公司拟开展滇池外海主要入湖河口及重点区域（疏浚范围和对象主要是外海北部疏浚区及宝丰湾、宝象河入湖河口湖区污染底泥疏浚）底泥疏浚工程。
