“一词多义”和“熟词僻义”在高中英语阅读理解中的应用及教学策略作者:韩雪来源:《辽宁教育·教研版》2021年第11期词汇在不同的句子、段落、篇章中会根据语境的变化而产生不同的解释,即一个词的含义学生只有通过具体分析上下文的语境才能准确理解。
在高中英语阅读理解题型中,“一词多义”和“熟词僻义”都是文章中的普遍现象,往往一个单词的出现频率越高,词义也就越广泛,生命力也就越强,但与此同时,也给高中生的阅读理解带来诸多困难。
一、教学中要重视“一词多义”和“熟词僻义”的原因随着新课改的不断实施,高考英语对学生的文章阅读能力的考查要比之前更有难度,近几年高考试卷中的四篇阅读理解的文章几乎都是摘自国外原版的英文网站或报刊,所以文章中词汇的选择更加地道和原汁原味。
口语和俚语运用多一些,也就导致“一词多义”和“熟词僻义”的出现频率不断增加。
高考不是为了考查学生某一个单词,而是为了考查学生对某个单词词义的推测能力。
因此,如果学生们理解词汇的能力有限的话,做英语阅读理解就会感到吃力。
这除了会成为大多数学生的失分点之外,还可能会浪费大量时间,导致后面的题完不成。
“一词多义”或者“熟词僻义”不是靠死记硬背来实现的,而是通过学生对这部分单词进行词义联想推测或者通过上下文的语境推测来实现的。
例如:pick 一词经常会在高中阅读语篇中出现,而且常常考查学生pick相关的拓展词组。
教师可以引导学生通过它的“拿起、拾起、捡起”的基本含义进行推断,展示给学生熟词生义推导过程,将“拿起或拾起某人”pick sb up推理引申成为“接某人”,将pick up English“拾起英语”引申成为“学会英语”,诸如此类的动词词组在高考英语中频繁出现,需要引起教师和学生的重视。
二、对“一词多义”和“熟词僻义”的理解和教学策略(一)对比分析教师根据平时的教学经验,针对试题中反复出现的同一单词得出不同的翻译方式,运用积累法把反复出现的同一单词进行对比分析,引导学生遇到同一单词的不同情况能及时做出正确的词义判断,例如,高中英语新课标必修三Understanding ideas出现一个句子:Though having lived abroad for years, many Chinese still observe the traditional custom.此句中的observe一词为何意?一时之间学生可能有些茫然,observe一词学生比较熟悉的是“观察”这一含义,显然此处不可能是这一含义,再仔细回味,可能隐约中想起observe一词还可理解为“遵守”。
专题05 易错点--一词多义和熟词生义易失分距离高考还有一段时间,不少有经验的老师都会提醒考生,愈是临近高考,能否咬紧牙关、学会自我调节,态度是否主动积极,安排是否科学合理,能不能保持良好的心态、以饱满的情绪迎接挑战,其效果往往大不一样。

做题前,要认真阅读题目要求、题干和选项,并对答案内容作出合理预测;答题时,切忌跟着感觉走,最好按照题目序号来做,不会的或存在疑问的,要做好标记,要善于发现,找到题目的题眼所在,规范答题,书写工整;答题完毕时,要认真检查,查漏补缺,纠正错误。
总之,在最后的复习阶段,学生们不要加大练习量。
在这个时候,学生要尽快找到适合自己的答题方式,最重要的是以平常心去面对考试。
英语最后的复习要树立信心,考试的时候遇到难题要想“别人也难”,遇到容易的则要想“细心审题”。
越到最后,考生越要回归基础,单词最好再梳理一遍,这样有利于提高阅读理解的效率。

[技法指导]在英语中,有些单词有两个甚至多个意思,我们把这种现象称之为一词多义。
一词多义是很普遍的语言现象。
在完形填空的选项中,有时也会出现一些多义2词。
如果考生对这类词的多层意思掌握得不够全面,就会给答题带来很大的干扰,导致错选或误选,尤其值得注意的的是:近几年高考完形填空对高频多义词和熟词生义的考查逐渐增多。

然而,英语阅读教学现状却往往不尽如人意,教师总是会花大量时间讲解单词的语境义或者句子结构,而不注重词义全面分析,也就导致英语教学更多只是流于表面,甚至枯燥无聊。

著名语言学家Chomsky曾经说过:Every word is a new word.翻译过来,意思便是词的含义只有通过分析具体语言环境(即上下文)才能准确理解。
此话不是没有道理,一词多义和熟词新义都是学习语言的普遍现象,往往词的使用频率越高,词义也就越多,生命力也就越强,也给我们学习英语带来诸多困难。
随着新课改的不断实施,英语考试更加注重分析、综合、概括和推理等思维能力和综合知识的运用能力,也就导致一词多义和熟词生义现象出现频率不断增加,高考绝对不是为了考验学生一个新词,而是为了考查学生熟词生义或猜测词义的能力。
鉴于此种现象,学生掌握词汇能力有限,答题速度减慢,容易浪费大量时间,导致无法完成书面写作,往往也会成为多数学生的失分点。
而对于一词多义和熟词生义来说,死记硬背一般没用,学生往往需要进行词义联想,通过上下文话题语境或者基本义(生义一般和基本义有联系)两种手段才能准确解答题目。
例如:pick up经常会在高考试卷当中出现,并且容易涉及其他拓展词组。
教师可以引导学生通过拿起、捡起的基本义进行推断,教给学生熟词生义推导过程,将拿起某活动继续引申成为pick up an activity参加活动,将拿起纪念品继续引申成为pick a souvenir买纪念品,由pick up引申出的两个拓展词组均在高考当中频繁出现,需要引起学生重视。
