1 Module 6 Animals in Danger Cultural Corner and Task Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It’s my great honor and pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. I’m no._ and the subject I choose is taken from Senior English Book 5, unit_ I have been ready to begin this representation with 6 parts. Analysis of the teaching material, Analysis of the students, the teaching methods, the learning methods, the teaching procedures, and the blackboard design. Part 1 Analysis of the Teaching Material Ⅰ.Teaching Material The content of my lesson is New Senior English for China Book 5 Module 6. This unit is about animals in danger. By studying of this unit, we’ll enable students to know the importance of protecting animals and develop the interest in protecting wild animals and the entire environment. At the same time, let the students learn how to express concern .Let’s start with Cultural Corner and Task. This lesson is in the important position of this unit. If the Ss can master it well, it will prove that the ss have a good understanding of all the parts they have learnt. Ⅱ.Teaching Aims According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus (新课程标准和教学大纲), and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are the followings: 1.Knowledge objects (1) To learn more words about the animals (2) The Ss can master the usage of the important words and expressions. (3) The Ss can understand the content of the lesson, 2.Ability objects (1)To develop Ss’ listening ability. (2). The Ss can use the attributive clauses in the proper situation. (3). The Ss can talk about the importance of protecting animals and get their own idea about protecting wild animals. 3. Moral objects (1)By completing the task, increase their interest in protecting animals. (2)To love and protect the environment and the world. (Put the moral education in the language study. ) Ⅲ.the Important and Difficult Points Based on the requirement of the syllabus. The important points are: (1) analysis the reasons of extinction (2) attributive clauses 2
(3)Enable Ss to describe the Rare and endangered animals (4) Seek for some effective measures to save those animals by discussing. The difficult points are: (1) help ss to describe animals (2) teach them expressions of concerning (3) cultivate the awareness of protecting animals and environment. Ⅳ.Teaching aids: 1. a projector 2. a tape recorder 3. Multimedia 4. the blackboard Part 2 Analysis of the students Students of this age are quick in mind and they are eager to show what they know, but they are lack of some certain knowledge and the courage to express themselves. Therefore, I will teach my students to master basic learning strategy, practice strategy, and communication strategy to improve their English abilities. Part 3 Teaching Methods As we know ,a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help Ss develop good sense of the English language. For achieving these teaching aims, I will use the following methods. 1. Task-based Language Teaching (任务教学法) 2. Total Situational Action (情景教学法) 3. Communicative Approach(交际教学法) Part 4 Learning Methods 1.Group work 2.Use the internet to collect information 3.Learning oneself Part 5 Teaching Procedures Step 1.Warming up (3 min) Show some pictures about the endangered animals and talk about which animal is the most important to protect? Purpose of my design: To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about saving the endangered animals. Step 2. Cultural Corner (17 min) 1.Ask Ss to read the passage individually and then answer the following questions in group of four or five. Q1. What is the WWF? Q2. What is the WWF doing in China? 2.Call back the answers from the whole class. Make sure that the WWF is World Wildlife Fund. It’s the largest 3
organization for nature conservation. They include work in forests, energy, and in environmental education for China’s primary and secondary schools ,as well as saving the panda, of course. Purpose of my design: Enable Ss to get the general idea of the passage. and get some information about WWF Step 3.task (15min) 1. Work in groups. Choose an endangered animal and find out more about it on the internet. 2. Describe the animal and its habitat 3. Explain why the animal is in danger 4. Let one or two students present their findings to the class Purpose of my design: To learn the four types of animals in the world, and learn to use the internet. . Step 4. Module File ( 8 min) Ask the Ss to look at Module File of Module 6 and try to recall what we have learnt in the module. Then tick the things they are sure that they know and put a question mark next to the points they are not sure of and a cross to what they don’t know. Help the students to share their ideas and deal with the difficult or confusing points. Purpose of my design: Enable the Ss to make a conclusion of this module and to deepen what we have learned in the module. Step 5. Homework ( 2 min) 1. Make a survey of endangered species in Chine. 2. Do something to help the endangered animals. Purpose of my design: Homework is so important and necessary for mastering the knowledge they learned after class. It will check whether the Ss achieve the teaching aims. Part 6 The Blackboard Design At last, I will give a brief introduction of my blackboard design. Module 6. Animals in Danger
