I N D U S T R Y N E W SPress ReleaseChina’s Leedarson Blazes Trail in LED Lighting with Styl-ish, White Heat Sinks Using LNP* Konduit* Compound from SABIC Innovative PlasticsPittsfield, MA—March 3, 2011—SAB-IC Innovative Plastics today announcedthat Leedarson Lighting—a leading end-to-end private label lighting manufacturerand provider of energy saving lightingsolutions—has selected LNP* Konduit*thermally conductive compound in a newwhite formulation to manufacture heatsinks for two of its light-emitting diode(LED) retrofit bulbs. Headquartered inXiamen, China, Leedarson is using thenew LNP Konduit compound material asa replacement for aluminum in these heatsinks to achieve key goals: stylish and heat-stable white color without the need for secondary painting; higher productivity through the use of injection molding; and compliance with industry requirements for electrical isolation. By combining superior aesthetics and production advantages with outstanding heat dissipation performance, LNP Konduit compound can help drive adoption of LED lighting and expand its benefits of energy savings and reduced environmental impact.“As the first lighting manufacturer touse white LNP Konduit compound for heatsinks, we are leading the industry by of-fering high-efficiency, stylish LED retro-fit products to consumers,” said Eder Lee,general manager, Leedarson Lighting. “Webelieve improved appearance of LED bulbswill have a significant effect on market ac-ceptance. As demand increases, LNP Kon-duit compound will make it easy for us toboost production capacity because injection molding is highly scalable compared to metalworking. This versatile material also provides the freedom to design the next generation of heat sinks for future LED technologies.”“With life spans of up to 50,000 hours and very low power consumption, LED lights hold tremendous potential for energy conservation,” said Peter Chan, president, Greater China, SAB-IC Innovative Plastics. “As part of our commitment to sustain-ability solutions, SABIC Innovative Plastics offers a portfolio of specialty materials that can enhance LED design and manufac-turing. In particular, our LNP Konduit compounds for heat sinks can play a crucial role in optimizing brightness performance and long useful life of LEDs. Our pioneering work with Leedarson Lighting is an important milestone in achieving these environ-mental goals.” Replacing Aluminum with LNP Konduit CompoundsLeedarson created cylindrical heat sinks for its 2-W clear candle-shaped LED bulb and its 2-W clear, round LED bulb using the new white LNP Konduit compound. These bulbs are sold in major home improvement stores and worldwide chain stores. Leedarson evaluated other conductive thermoplastics and chose LNP Konduit compound for its superior conductive performance, nonhalogenated flame retardance, electrical isola-tion properties to pass the 6-kV breakdown test, and stable color performance.Compared with aluminum and other metals, thermally con-ductive compounds typically have lower coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) that help reduce stresses from differential ex-pansion. They also weigh significantly less than aluminum.LNP Konduit compounds offer tremendous flexibility to de-signers, who benefit from the freedom to create complex shapes and achieve part integration using injection molding instead of traditional stamping, casting, and secondary finishing required by metals. Thermoplastics open the door to innovative configu-rations that can optimize heat transfer—all while providing the cost benefits of high-volume production. For additional information on SABIC Innovative Plastics’ products for the LED lighting sector, please go to www.sabic-ip. com. High wattage switching mode power supplies benefit from the compact design and much reduced weight. Other applications include power factor correction and harmonics filtering in UPS systems, variable frequency inverters and on-grid solar and wind power systems.Alpha-Core power inductors are box shaped and fully encap-sulated in black epoxy resin. The insulation system is class F (155C). The two leads exit from the short end. Initially Alpha-Core offers inductance values ranging from 100 uH to 5,000 uH and RMS current ratings up to 60A. Prices start at $25.00. For more information, please visit , call the factory sales department at 203-954-0050 / 800-836-5920 or email sales@ .。
