T he ability to think critically, as conceived in this volume, involves three things: ( 1 ) an attitude of being disposed to consider in a thoughtful way the problems and subjects that come within the range of one's experiences, (2) knowledge of the methods of logical inquiry and reasoning, and (3) some skill in applying those methods. Critical thinking calls for a persistent effort to examine any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the evidence that supports it and the further conclusions to which it tends.

On the importance of critical thinkingCritical thinking plays a important role in our daily life. We need to acquire huge information from outside world , including books, TV media, internet and so on. We need to identify whether the news is true or false, the person is honest or dishonest, the price will go up or down. Meanwhile, we have to make many dicisions correctly and in time, which will have deep influence on our future’s life. All of these are closely related to critical thinking. And you know, we can’t create anything new without critical thinking. Creating needs to find problems which exist in real you have questioning eyes, can you find what you are unsatified with, what needs to change. Problem is awlays the source of innovation. Our education should cultivate the students’ consciousness of question. You know, childen have the most curiosity .as time goes by, they become indifferent to everything around them. Their eyes are full of mess, even they are unwilling to open them. we have killed their curiosity successfully. It’s a tradegy. We shold give them more chance to discuss something,to debate with classmates, to present their point of view and express preferences. We should reduce the amount of exams as soon as possible. Give them free space to fly in the sky of imagination.I don’t expect to see so many machines of memory made by us, I don’t expect to see them become the slaves of exam. I hope our education can change a lot, I hope our next generation have more wonderful life than us , I hope they can do what are meaningful for themselves.。
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Is College Life Necessary for Everyone following the outline given below. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.
Nowadays, it’s common that students have bachelor. With college education developing quickly, more and more students have an opportunity to get further education.
Different people have different reasons to attend university. Above all, most students want to have great development by mastering professional skills, so attending university is a good way to require skills. What’s more, there are some people who are obsessed with academic research. Undoubtedly, the university provide a place for them where they can study with excellent academic atmosphere. However, lots of people still don’t have a good idea why they attend university. Even some of them go to college only because people surrounding them attend university.
In my opnion, there’s no doubt that attending university is a great chance to improve overselves., but it won’t be fit for everyone. Only if we have specific aim can we acquire what we really need in university, which will also have an effect on our life in the long run.。
