4. 蔬菜产品出口增加速度较快
我国蔬菜产品在2001年出口超过394万吨，比上年增 长22.9％；出口额超过23.4亿美元，比上年增长 12.4％，成为出口增长最快的农产品之一。截至 2003年8月底，海关统计我国2002年累计出口蔬菜 （含鲜冷冻菜、加工保贮菜和干蔬菜）342万吨，同 比增长16％，出口创汇18.5亿美元（还包括了非典的 影响）。
我国加入世贸组织后，蔬菜产品成为农产品中最具世界 竞争能力的优势产业之一。据专家分析，发达国家的蔬 菜价格一般比我国高出5～10倍。以2003年9月 16～20日的马铃薯、胡萝卜、结球甘蓝、芹菜、茄子、 番茄、黄瓜和大蒜等大众菜种批发价格计算，日本东京、 美国洛杉叽和加拿大多伦多等地价格与我国北京蔬菜价 格相比，高2～87倍。故蔬菜出口优势很大，利润空 间可观。
2. 播种面积和总产量保持了持续稳定的 增长，蔬菜已成为我国第二大农作物
近年来，我国蔬菜播种面积年均增长12.1％、 总产年均增长14.9％。2008年全国蔬菜播种面积 1793万公顷，其中各类设施蔬菜面积约225万公 顷，蔬菜总产量达6.7亿吨，占世界蔬菜总产量的 50%多，蔬菜总产值3803亿元。我国蔬菜作物的 播种面积已于2001年超过油料作物面积，成为仅 次于粮食作物的第二大农作物。其中，播种面积前 5位以此是山东、河南、广东、江苏和广西。
