Spencer⋅ September 7, 2011 ⋅ 2 CommentsDear Joel,You would have been brave if you had smashed that kids face into the ground. You could have done it, too. And you would have been absolutely justified. Bullying is never okay and the victim is never at fault. But you didn’t choose bravery. You chose courage instead. You boldly dealt with it by speaking out in humility and grace. You talked to me about how it felt. You invited me in to listen. You talked to your teacher about what happened and why it was wrong. Then you moved a step further and chose forgiveness and you proved, at a young age, that love is the most courageous route possible. Thank you for the reminder about what matters.Love,Dad“Education is not only learning from books, memorising(sic) some facts, but also learning how to look, how to listen to what the books are saying, whether they are saying something true or false. His was fueled by parties, drugs, wit, and self-involvement, hers by longing, anger, spite, and sweat. He was vivid; he hit her skin like sunshine and she finally felt warmth from an external source. She smoldered. He was curious to know how her sweat turned to the steam the hovered over her skin. What was her heat source? How could someone burn so hot without catching fire?In the end, he combusted, was consumed by his own fire. In his 30’s, he was raging out of control, in his 40’s he was a smoking pile of embers. Today, he’s ash. He is gray and the heft of him scatters with the slightest breeze. Even his wit burned away. His heat from the outside stoked her burning on the inside and she nearly exploded. She had to protect herself or be destroyed. She put down her longing, anger, and spite and put in more sweat. She worked and struggled and toiled and fought —she sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat —until the steam rose and condensed and rose and condensed, protecting her from the fire that was him and keeping the burn inside of her. It was a kiln, churning and working — always working — to produce something better, something that wasn’t just burning away life, but something that was living. She wanted to go on living, she needed to keep on living. She couldn’t let him take her, too. She couldn’t be burned away too. She had to work, work, sweat, sweat, burn, burn! And I was born. I was ignited and her steamy sweat cooled me so I would burn away. His flames, her burning, my birth.I am living with a pocket full of ashes and a stomach full of embers. Even in elementary school, I fill my afternoons with extra curricular activities. I’m logical.I’m creative. But, mostly importantly, I’m passionate. I have a huge space inside of myself that feels it can only be filled through a combination of film and social justice. Well, at least I thought that it was important, until I graduated from college.I can hear the story of a person and, on my own, make a film about it. But instead, I’m an intern at an amazing film program and I spend my days writing thank you notes and making copies. Here I am, nearly three years after graduating college and I still work at the same coffee shop that I did when I was 17. I’m a documentary filmmaker and, while I know that I am good at it, I still feel like I can’t apply for a video production job for fear that an employer won’t think I have the proper skills. Thefoundation and passion is already there, but in a market where you need 5 years experience to get a job, I’m afraid that I’m just not good enough.I remember a fight I had with my mother my sophomore year of college. I felt like I was trapped, that I was wasting my time. I was angry and I didn’t understand what all this time and dedication was really for. What was I really learning?“I’m never going to remember any of th is! I spent weeks learning it, hours cramming for test only to forget it all moments later!” I said.I’m sure my mother combated me with something along the lines of how even though I wasn’t learning facts in the long run, I was learning how to think. I was learning a process of reasoning and expanding my views.“It’s just two more years,” she would say in an attempt to comfort me.I specifically remember being most frustrated at a lack of freedom within my university’s system. You must take this, you have to learn about that! Two Math classes, a Science class, some History, some English, hardly any Art, and hardly any say. I understood it for the students who felt like they weren’t sure what direction they wanted to go in, but I have never been a person without direction. I entered college with a path and not one required course helped to change or steer me. In fact, it only took away from time that I could have spent getting to work with amazing professors who shared my passions and had skills I didn’t.Why wasn’t I allowed to make more decisions about the courses I wanted to take? Why was I forced to feel trapped in subjects I had little interest in (and, as a result, put little effort into) when I could have been doing something I felt passionate about? Is there truth in the idea that a well-rounded, educated person is the best person? As I sit here at the coffee shop I just spent 8 hours slinging lattes in, I ca n’t help but wonder if I would have been in the same place I am right now (poor and disheartened) had I been given more choice in my education.。
针对家庭对孩子的影响英语作文Family plays a crucial role in shaping a child's personality, values, and future prospects. The environment that parents create at home, the relationships they foster, and the guidance they provide all contribute significantly to a child's overall development.Firstly, a loving and supportive family atmosphere is essential for a child's emotional well-being. When children feel secure, valued, and understood by their parents, they develop a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence. This emotional stability enables them to form healthy relationships, cope with challenges, and navigate the complexities of life more effectively.Secondly, parents serve as primary role models for their children. Children observe and internalize their parents' behaviors, attitudes, and problem-solving strategies. If parents demonstrate positive values such as honesty, respect, and empathy, children are more likely to adopt these qualities themselves. Conversely, if parents exhibit negative behaviors or engage in constant conflict, children may struggle with emotional regulation and social interactions.Furthermore, the level of involvement and support parents provide in their children's education greatly influences academic success. Parents who actively participate in their children's learning, encourage curiosity, and prioritize education create an environment that fosters intellectual growth. By setting high expectations, providing resources, and offering guidance, parents can help their children develop a love for learning and achieve their full potential. In conclusion, the family unit is the foundation upon which a child's character, values, and future success are built. Through a nurturing environment, positive role modeling, and educational support, parents have the power to shape their children's lives in profound and lasting ways. It is therefore essential for families to recognize their immense influence and strive to create a loving, stable, and stimulating home environment that enables children to thrive.中文翻译:家庭在塑造孩子的性格、价值观和未来前景方面起着至关重要的作用。

whenlwasachild英文作文Title: Childhood Memories。
When I was a child, life seemed to unfold in an endless array of adventures and discoveries. Each day brought new experiences and lessons, shaping the person I am today. As I reminisce about those cherished moments, I am flooded with a wave of nostalgia, recalling the innocence and wonder of childhood. One of the fondest memories from my childhood is the countless hours I spent exploring the natural world around me. Whether it was chasing butterflies in the backyard or building forts in the woods, there was always a sense of awe and excitement in discovering the beauty of nature. I remember the feeling of freedom as I roamed through fields and forests, my imagination running wild as I pretended to be an explorer on a grand expedition.Another highlight of my childhood was the joy ofspending time with friends and family. From impromptu games of tag in the park to cozy evenings spent gathered around the dinner table, the bonds I formed with those closest to me were the foundation of my happiness. Together, we shared laughter and tears, creating memories that would last a lifetime.Education also played a significant role in shaping my childhood experiences. I have vivid memories of eagerly raising my hand in class, eager to share my thoughts and ideas with my classmates. Learning was not just confined to the four walls of the classroom; it extended into every aspect of my life, fueling my curiosity and thirst for knowledge.Of course, childhood was not without its challenges. There were moments of disappointment and frustration, times when I felt lost and unsure of myself. But through it all, I learned valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance, qualities that have served me well into adulthood. As I reflect on my childhood, I am filled withgratitude for the love and support that surrounded me. My parents, in particular, were my pillars of strength, guiding me through life's ups and downs with unwavering devotion. Their sacrifices and sacrifices have shaped me into the person I am today, and for that, I will be forever grateful. In conclusion, my childhood was a time of innocence, wonder, and growth. It was a journey filled with laughter and tears, joy and sorrow, but through it all, I emerged stronger and more resilient. Though those days may be gone, the memories will forever hold a special place in my heart, reminding me of the magic of childhood.。

Good afternoon everyone, my n ame is …. I am honored stand here to make a speech! M y topic is “what do you think is more important for a child, a happy childhood or top marks at school.First, my opinion is that a happy childhood is more important than any other for a child. It is the precondition [,pri:kən'diʃən/of one’s happylife , and it is part and parcel of the growth of good character to a child. Generally speaking, if a child has a happy childhood, he is more likely to become more optimistic and develop himself better than the child who has not. but some parents don’t think so; they attach importance to higher marks.Actually we can think about it seriously, these two standpoints are not contradictory. Top marks can be one of the factors to making a happy childhood for a child .Because t op marks’ students haveprivilege['privilidʒ]in some aspects, such as attending extra classes, getting more attention from teachers, getting more praise than low marks’ students ,and so on. Therefore, top marks can help children to make a happy childhood, but it’s not ab solute. So I do agree that those children who fail to get top marks at school still have the right to enjoy a happy childhood. A top mark isn’t the only standard to measure a child’s ability. Teachers can not take this standard, Parents either. Although with common marks, some children also can do a good job in other things, such as he may have the good interpersonalrelationship with people, own the intimate affection with family or be good at sports, and so on.Second, I want to say is that parents have to shoulder the responsibility to provide the children with a happy childhood. There is saying: Parents are best teachers for their children. With the good conditions from our society, parents should take their children to the Children art center or the places closing nature, guide them encourage them actively to find out their own talents or interests, give them more care and chances to develop themselves. For example, As parents, you can not prevent your child from catching fishes in the river with peers, maybe he can be a excellent hockey player years later; and you can not disagree with your child to join the Campus singing competition in stead of urging he studies hard, maybe he can be a wonderful singer in the future. Doing the things children like, they will bloom the sweet smile, owning a true happy childhood.Last but not least, children should learn to be grateful to every person who has ever helped him, should learn to make contribution to the society.I also believe those are all the parents’ wishes. So a happy childhood is necessary for a child. That’s all, thank you.2012.02.23。
