Born on 17 August 1893 in Wuxi, Abing greatly influenced Chinese folk music. At a young age, he learned to play all kinds of musical instruments under the influence of his father, a well-known Taoist priest and musician.
Abing composed more than 270 pieces of music all his life, but only 6 were passed down. Among them, Erquan Yinyue (Moon Reflected on Second Spring) is the best-known piece, which takes on a tone of sad beauty. Tingsong (Listening to the Pines) is also a great hit he composed in 1939.
