Unit 8 Section A Animals or children? — A scientist's choice动物还是孩子?—— 一位科学家的选择1 I am the enemy! I am one of those cursed, cruel physician scientists involved in animal research. These rumors sting, for I have never thought of myself as an evil person. I became a children's doctor because of my love for children and my supreme desire to keep them healthy. During medical school and residency, I saw many children die of cancer and bloodshed from injury — circumstances against which medicine has made great progress but still has a long way to go. More importantly, I also saw children healthy thanks to advances in medical science such as infant breathing support, powerful new medicines and surgical techniques and the entire field of organ transplantation. My desire to tip the scales in favor of healthy, happy children drew me to medical research.1 我就是那个敌人!我就是那些被人诅咒的、残忍的、搞动物实验的医生科学家之一。

He was born in 1890 in Ontario, Canada, and grew up in a family of religious and social activists. Bethune's upbringing greatly influenced his later commitment to social justice and his dedication to helping others. In his early career, Bethune worked as a thoracic surgeon and developed innovative techniques for treating tuberculosis. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to think outside the box when it came to medical procedures. Bethune's skills as a surgeon quickly gained him recognition in the medical community, and he soon became a sought-after doctor. However, Bethune's true calling came during the Spanish Civil War, when he volunteered as a medic for the Republican forces. He was appalled by the suffering hewitnessed on the battlefield and was determined to do whatever he could to alleviate it. Bethune set up mobile blood transfusion units and pioneered the use of mobile surgical hospitals, which allowed for faster and more efficient medical treatment for wounded soldiers.Bethune's work in Spain caught the attention of the Chinese government, and he was invited to travel to China to help in the fight against the invading Japanese forces. He readily accepted the offer and arrived in China in 1938. Bethune's time in China was marked by incredible dedication and selflessness. He worked tirelessly to treat wounded soldiers, often operating for days on end without rest. Bethune's efforts saved countless lives and earned him the respect and admiration of the Chinese people.Tragically, Bethune's time in China was cut short when he contracted blood poisoning from a surgical instrument. Despite receiving treatment, his condition worsened, and he passed away in 1939 at the age of 49. Bethune's death was a great loss to the medical community and to the people of China, who regarded him as a hero.Today, Norman Bethune is remembered as a symbol of selflessness and compassion. His legacy lives on through the Norman Bethune Medical University in China, which was founded in his honor, and through the countless lives he touched and saved during his time as a doctor. Bethune's story serves as a reminder of the power of one individual to make a difference in the world, and his example continues to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.。

八年级英语作文王亮的感人故事Wang Liang was an ordinary 8th grade student who had a passion for learning English. Unlike many of his peers who saw English as a chore, Wang Liang embraced the language with enthusiasm and dedication. He spent countless hours studying vocabulary, practicing grammar, and immersing himself in English literature. One day, Wang Liang's English teacher announced a writing contest. The theme was "My Inspirational Story," and the winner would receive a trip to an English-speaking country. Wang Liang saw this as an opportunity to showcase his love for the language and to inspire others with his journey. As he sat down to write, Wang Liang reflected on the challenges he had faced in his pursuit of English proficiency. Growing up in a small rural town, he had limited access to resources and exposure to native English speakers. However, he refused to let these obstacles deter him. He sought out every opportunity to practice his English, whether it was through online language exchanges, reading English novels, or watching English-language films.Wang Liang's essay chronicled his struggles and triumphs, painting a vivid picture of his determination and resilience. He described how he would stay up late into the night, poring over grammar books and listening to English podcasts, determined to master the language. He recounted the moments of frustration when he felt like giving up, but then found the strength to push forward, driven by his dream of one day traveling to an English-speaking country. As he wrote, Wang Liang's passion for the language shone through in his words. He eloquently described the joy he felt when he finally understood a complex English sentence or when he was able to engage in a conversation with a native speaker. He spoke of the sense of accomplishment he experienced when he aced an English exam, knowing that his hard work had paid off.But Wang Liang's essay was not just about his personal journey; it was also a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of education. He shared how learning English had opened up a whole new world to him, exposing him to different cultures, ideas, and perspectives. He spoke of how the language had become a bridge, connecting him to people from all over the globe and allowing him to explore new horizons. As the judges read Wang Liang's essay, they were struck by thedepth of his insights and the sincerity of his words. They marveled at his ability to articulate his experiences with such clarity and emotion, and they were inspired by his unwavering determination to succeed. In the end, Wang Liang's essay was selected as the winner of the contest. The news spread quickly throughout his school and community, and Wang Liang found himself the center of attention. His classmates and teachers congratulated him, expressing their pride and admiration for his achievements. But for Wang Liang, the true reward was not the trip to an English-speaking country, but the knowledge that he had inspired others with his story. He hoped that his journey would encourage other students to pursue their passions and to never give up, no matter the obstacles they faced. As Wang Liang embarked on his trip, he carried with him a renewed sense of purpose and a deep appreciation for the power of language. He knew that his story was just the beginning, and that the lessons he had learned would continue to shape his life and inspire others for years to come.。
