On the last day, we wanted to go up a mountain near the camp. But it was already lunchtime, and it had been raining all morning. So Peter, our guide, said, “Sorry, guys, the weather is just too bad. We can’t go.” At first, we were really disappointed. Then one of my friends had an idea. “Why don’t we go anyway?” he said, “Peter won’t notice, and we’ll be back before it gets dark.” Five minutes later we were ready to leave. “We made good progress. We’ll be at the top of the mountain in an hour,” we thought. But then the weather changed. It became foggy, and the rain became much stronger. Suddenly, we realized that we had lost our way. Luckily, I had my mobile phone on me. We phoned Peter. He told us to stay where we were. When he found us, it was already dark. We were really sorry. We had made a big mistake.D. He had just been dropped off by his mum, who left after telling him that he was going to spend the next twelve days there with no TV, no mobile phone and — worse of all — no computer.Suddenly, a man appeared at the entrance of the house. When he saw Eric, he went up to him immediately. ‘You must be Eric. Welcome to the camp,’ said the man confidently. ‘I’m Tony, the camp leader, but you will call me “Sir”. Now tell me why you’re here.’Eric quickly replied, ‘My mum made me come!’ When Tony looked at him angrily and did not say anything, Eric realized his mistake and added, ‘Sir!’‘And do you know why your mother sent you here?’ asked Tony.‘She thinks I spend too much time online. Sir,’ answered Eric. ‘It’s not just her opinion — it’s the truth! Look at you — pale, unfit, and definitely not getting enough sleep. You’re here because you think the virtual world is much better than the real world. But you’re wrong! The real world has much more to offer. At the camp, you’re going to go hiking, rowing, rock-climbing and stay outdoors most of the time,’ promised Tony.Eric’s heart sank.‘But it’s not going to be all fun and games,’ Tony continued. ‘We have rules here. If you break them, you’ll get punished. But you won’t simply get detention (课后留校), and you can forget about suspension (停学) — you’ll never be sent home early! (根据短文内容回答下列问题)A Backcountry AdventureSunday, July l0thWe are back from our three-day camping trip to the Shenandoah Valley. Mom and Dad had been worried about our family’s reliance on computers, cell phones, and video games for entertainment. So they decided a camping trip would help us overcome our dependence on electronic devices. I knew we’d have to be resilient (适应力强的) in order to find a way to survive without the comforts of home. When you camp in the backcountry, you could only bring necessities that you needed to survive, such as food, clothes, a camp stove, fuel, rope, a map, and a water container. At first, I was surprised that we weren’t bringing bottled water with us. Then my heavy, overstuffed backpack made me realize we’d soon use up any supply we could carry. Instead, we’d have to boil water from nearby streams. Our first day in the wild was out of expectation. We scrabbled up rocky paths and waded in an ice-cold stream. Colourful wildflowers waved at us. I felt like I had stepped into a dreamypainting. After all that exercise, an intense hunger burned in my stomach. Mom’s homemade snacks had never tasted so good.At night, the darkness seemed like a black curtain. I tried to read with an electric torch, but I couldn’t concentrate. I finally fell asleep to a chorus of chirping crickets (蟋蟀鸣叫声中).By our last day, I had blistered (长水泡的) feet and bug-bitten arms. I was ready to go home.I couldn’t wait to play computer games. But a funny thing happened. Soon after I started my favorite game, I lost the interest. So I walked outside to get some fresh air. Mom and Dad’s plan had worked after all. Holland is a very low country, and it lies close to the ocean. Nothing but the strong dykes (堤坝) keep the angry waves away from the very doors of the houses in Holland. People must carefully guard the strong sea walls. They know that their homes and their lives would be in danger from the water of the sea if the dykes were broken. One day, a little boy named Peter was playing in the garden by his home in Holland when his mother called him. “Peter,” she said, “I want you to carry this basket of cheese to your grandmother. Go straight upon your way, without playing. You must be back home before supper.”Peter took the basket that held the cheese, and went on his way. He did not stop to gather thepretty flowers that grew by the wayside, nor to play with the boys who called to him from the field. He did what he was told, and soon he reached his grandmother’s house. It was already almost dark. He left his basket, gave his grandmother a kiss and left to go home. His path lay beside the dyke. In the quiet evening air, he heard a sound which made his heartbeat quick and fast. Peter knew the meaning of the fearful sound. It meant that 83 .Before morning, even before Peter could get men to help, the water would be pouring over the land. What could a boy do? Quickly, he ran to the spot from which the water trickled (滴、淌). He pushed his hand into the hole in the dyke. Then he called aloud for help. He listened. No answer came to his call, but he could hear that the water was no longer dripping. It became dark. For me, it is more than twenty dollars per hour.Like other eighteen-year-old girls, I chose to work in a clothing shop. On the first day, I was trained to fold and organize platform after platform of clothes. The work didn’t seem easy to me because everything had to be done in an accurate way. I felt a little impatient because I couldn’t get it right the first couple of times. The manager told me not to be impatient and taught me skills on how to finish the work well. After hundreds of tries, I had the clothes folded perfectly. Then it took me thirty minutes to get them all looking uniform. Now, I fold and organize clothes in the shop every day, and I am able to do them well. Through this experience, I’ve learned patience can help me in the work.Helping customers and connecting with them are the things I love most in the shop. About three weeks ago, I helped an old lady who was looking for a special dress. She told me exactly what she was picturing—a blue dress with long sleeves and a lace neck. We didn’t have any such dress, and when I explained that to her, she wasn’t very happy. Instead of getting impatient, I tried getting to learn about her interest first. We shared our love of the fashion show. I also asked her what the dress was for, so I could help her get the clothes she liked. Everything I did worked. She found other items she liked and finally bought some new blouses and jeans worth of $300. This experience has taught me how to meet customers’ needs.I’ve experienced frustrations and challenges in the work. To do well, I must learn to deal with them. This person is a hero because he or she has done something to help protect animals in danger. Huang Jing decided to write a letter to the President of China.Dear Mr. President,I have been doing a project at school recently about animals in danger. I think the situationall over the world is really awful. I am writing to you to suggest what China should do to helpprotect animals more.I know that there are nearly 2,000 nature reserves (保护区) in China, which is good. I livein Beijing and there are about 30 reserves outside the city. We visited one of them last monthto see for ourselves.I feel so sorry for the giant panda. It’s one of the most popularanimals in the world and a real symbol of China. We learned that pandasmainly live on bamboo, and that a panda can eat half its body weight ofbamboo in 24 hours! That’s a lot of bamboo. I think we should try to domore to stop cutting down their forests. Pandas are already a rare animal and it would be so sad if they became extinct (灭绝) forever. The other animal we should try to protect more is the Chinese alligator(扬子鳄). These creatures live in some parts of eastern China. Thesebeautiful animals live in freshwater rivers and lakes but the water in someplaces isn’t clean enough for them to live in. It’s really dirty in fact. Thegovernment should stop factories polluting the lakes and rivers. If we protect these beautiful animals in China, more people may wish to visit China to see them. They could be an important tourist attraction. It would be good if more people came tovisit our beautiful country, especially to see the quieter areas in the country. Now most visitorsjust see the cities.I hope you will encourage more people to think about such an important subject.Sincerely yours,Huang Jing93. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): (12分)Super SingersImagine yourself singing in front of an audience, performing in other countries, and having your music put on a CD! All this excitement isn’t just for rock stars. Joining a children’s chorus gives kids the chance to do these exciting activities. What does it take to get into a children’s chorus? You don’t need years of singing lessons. You just need to have a love for singing and be willing to learn and follow directions. It all starts at the audition(试唱). The choirmaster, or conductor, will have you sing with a group of kids. As the group sings, the conductor listens to how your voice comes together. You’ll also probably be asked to sing by yourself. The conductor wants to figure out what type of voice you have. A girl with a high voice is a soprano while a girl with a low voice is an alto. A boy with a high voice is a tenor, while a boy with a low voice is a bass. When the whole chorus sings together, the different types of voices sing different notes to the same song. This is called “singing parts”.Once you pass the audition, you might be assigned to a specific group. Beginning singers are often grouped together in a “Treble Chorus”. More advanced singers might be in a “Concert Chorus”. Different choirs have different names for these groups. No matter which group you’re in, you’ll need to go to rehearsals. 2021年上海牛津版中考冲刺-回答问题类阅读理解专项练习(一)Helen Monson has always been interested in helping her community. Her first volunteer experience was for the American Red Cross when she was in high school. When she was a school teacher, she also found time to volunteer. One year, she organized a Super Saturday Fun Day for kids in the community. She also used to volunteer at the Mint Festival every year. One summer, she served food, another year she organized an art programme. After she retired, she started volunteering to help the old. When her father was older, he was not able to see as well as he used to, which made her sad because he had always enjoyed reading. She decided it would be fun to read to elderly people in her community. She also helped one woman write her stories. Ann was almost 100 years old, and Helen wrote down information about her life when she visited her. She put the information in a book and got it published. Ann was very excited to share her life story with her children and her grandchildren. After a hurricane(飓风) destroyed some southern cities, Helen volunteered again for the American Red Cross. She prepared food and answered phones in a care centre. She says, “I have always liked the Red Cross because the organization helps people in need no matter what.”One day, Helen read an article in the newspaper about refugees(难民) who needed to learn English. Now, she meets once a week with Sahra, a 38-year-old woman, from Somalia. Sahra is living and working in a town about 30 minutes’ walk from where Helen lives. They work on reading and writing skills. Helen gave Sahra a camera and asked her to take pictures of her daily life. She developed the pictures, and then asked Sahra questions about them. Some kids used to call him a loser. This made him feel small, so focusing on lite things helped him to feel big. The smaller his work got, the bigger he felt.
