12 day of Christmas FestivalTwelve days of Christmas are perhaps the mostcontroversial aspect of Christmas celebration. Mostof the popular beliefs suggest that these are thetwelve days before Christmas. But most of thewestern church counts the twelve days ofChristmas after Christmas i.e., December 25 toJanuary 5 until the beginning of the epiphany onJanuary 6 .Even the origin of twelve days of Christmas is as complicated as their counting is. The origin and counting of twelve days of Christmas is related to different cultures and church tradition. In western church epiphany is celebrated as the day when the wise men better known as 'magi' visited the Christ child and present him the three gifts. While in some other cultures like the one of Latin America, January 6 is celebrated as the day of kings or three kings' day. Though December 25 is celebrated as Christmas in these cultures also but January 6 is the day for giving gifts and not celebrated as epiphany. Moreover in the eastern orthodox culture the Christmas is celebrated on January 7 epiphany on January 19 as they use a different religious calendar. Some of the European cultures have combined the twelve days of Christmas with the festivals held by them to celebrate the changing of new year. These festivals are related with driving away the evil spirits on the occasion of beginning of a new year.The night of 5th January is the twelfth and the last night of Christmas. On this twelfth night special feast is arranged which often include the King's cake. Removal of Christmas decoration is always a part of celebrations.The popular song "the twelve days of Christmas" is a song of Christian instruction. Different things mentioned in the song have some religious symbolism. For instance, True love mention in the song refers to the God, Turtle dove refers to the old and new testament, French Hens refers to Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues, etc. so each of the 'days' represent some aspect of the Christian faith which is important for the children to learn.。

in the whole world. The day is very important for
the Christians. They celebrate the day with great
enthusiasm. The Christmas is first celebrated in
Rome. This is the day of sharing love and joy with
all of your friends and relatives. The celebration
spreads warmth of love everywhere. People enjoy
the day very much. For them this is the day of
exchanging tokens of love with one another. People wish each other and give gifts to loved ones. People start planning Christmas celebration days ahead as it involves thinking about the decoration, preparation for parties and shopping of gifts. So people give special attention to these days before Christmas.
The celebration of Christmas varies from place to place but still there are some traditions that are very popular and common all around like the traditions of exchanging gifts and traditions of Christmas tree and house decorations.
People start decorating their places weeks ago. The houses, office places and commercial places like shops and restaurants are being decorated days before Christmas to welcome the day.While shopping for Christmas people buy decoration materials and gifts for their loved ones. The gifts have special value on Christmas. Magi people started the tradition of gifts on Christmas at the time of Christ’s birth.
The Magi were the wise people who first recognize Jesus as the Son of God and gave him gifts. Since then there has been a tradition of giving gifts to each other. The gifts can flowers, pack of Chocolates, clothing, Christmas cakes, a bottle of wine or champagne. The markets get flooded with a large variety of gifts. While shopping for the gifts we must consider the taste and requirement of the recipient. Since there is a large range of choices available in the market one can easily find best-suited gift for someone. Specific and personalized gifts can also be given as the requirements and tastes of kids, parents and friends could be different. The hand crafted self made gifts are also a good choice as these have more emotional touch. At the time of selecting gift one thing must be kept in mind that the gifts not necessarily be rich in cost and glamour but must be rich in emotions.。
