But years ago ifyou'd told him this was what he'd be doing someday, he would have laughed,“You're crazy.” As a boy, he used to be “a little tough guy on the streets”.At age thirteen, he was caught by police stealing. At eighteen, he landed inprison for shooting a man.“I knew it had hurt my mom,” Bonner said after he got out of prison. “So I told myself I would not put my mom through that pain again.”One day he met Professor Mattoni, who was working to rebuild the habitat foran endangered butterfly called El Segundo Blue.“I saw the sign ‘Butterfly Habitat’ and asked, ‘How can you have a habitat when the butterflies can just fly away?’” Bonner recalled. “Dr Mattoni laughed and handed me a magnifying glass (放大镜), ‘Look at the leaves.’ I could see all these caterpillars(蝴蝶的幼虫) on the plant. Dr Ma ttoni explained, ‘Without the plant, there are no butterflies.’”Weeks later, Bonner received a call from Dr Mattoni, who told him there was a butterfly which needed help. That was how he met the Palos Verdes Blue. Since then he's been working for four years to help bring the butterfly back. He grows the only plant the butterfly eats. He collects butterflies and brings them into a labto lay eggs. Then he puts new butterflies into the habitat. The butterfly's population, once almost zero, is now up to 900. They've got psychotherapists (心理治疗师) occupying the back seats of the taxis, offering free consultations (咨询). The test was started by a pany called Taxi Stockholm, which claims it's the first project of its kind in the world. The idea was formed when the owners of Taxi Stockholm realized that people are more likely to talk about their problems on boring, quiet drives. They even have data to back_up the theory; according to spokeswoman Natalia Santos, around 70 percent of people said their taxi journeys were a good time for reflection and that they often found their minds wandering.“And when you thi nk about it, the drivers can even bee like therapists,” she added.Mia Fahlén, one of the psychologists on board, said that she would have to be flexible, because she wouldn't know exactly how long a trip could be. But she believes that a lot could be acpl ished from even a short 10minute journey. “A lot of people are lonely,” she explained. “There are so many single people in Stockholm. And a lot of the people I meet from abroad tell me they're frustrated (挫败的) with Sweden. They say it's really hard to make the acquaintance of people and that even when they try, the Swedes can be very quiet.”“Of course, you'd not have to be lucky to catch these taxis, but if you're really excited about the idea, you could book a trip in advance. It will work out cheaper th an seeing a regular therapist; an hourlong session with Fahlén costs up to 1,200 kronor ($ 165).”Natalia Santos said. When asked if this is all a publicity stunt (作秀) in the wake of their new petitors, taxiapp service Uber, Santos denied (否认) it. 【2015春走向高考】高三英语一轮复习 Unit 1 Living well练习新人教版选修7Ⅰ.阅读理解(2014·湖北省八市三月调考)I lost my sight when I was four years old by falling off a box car in a goods yard in Atlantic City and landing on my head. Now I can dimly remember the brightness of sunshine and what color red is. It would be wonderful to see again, but a calamity(大灾难) can do strange things to people. It occurred to me the other day that I might not have come to love life as I do if I hadn't been blind. I believe in life now. I am not so sure that I would have believed in it so deeply, otherwise. I don't mean that I would prefer to go without my eyes. I simply mean that the loss of them made me appreciate the more what I had left.Life, I believe, asks a continuous series of adjustments to reality. In spite of the fact the adjustment is never easy, I had my parents and teachers to help. The hardest lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself. If I hadn't been able to do that, I would have collapsed and become a chair rocker on the front porch for the rest of my life. When I say belief in myself I am not talking about simply the kind of self-confidence that helps me down an unfamiliar staircase alone. That is part of it. But I mean something bigger than that: an assurance that I am, despite imperfections, a real, positive person; that there is a special place where I can make myself fit.It took me years to discover and strengthen this assurance. It had to start with the most elementary things. Once a man gave me an indoor baseball. I thought he was la ughing at me and I was hurt. “I can't use this.” I said. “Take it with you,” he urged me, “and roll it around.” The words stuck in my head. “Roll it around!” By rolling the ball I could hear where it went. This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal I had thought impossible: playing baseball. All my life I have set ahead of me a series of goals and then tried to reach them, one at a time. I had to learn my limitations. It was no good to try for something that I knew at the start was wildly out of reach because that only invited the bitterness of failure. I would fail sometimes anyway but on the average I made progress.文章大意:本文讲述一位盲人因一次意外事故失明后如何克服困难,重新定位自己,取得人生价值的故事。

Unit 1 Living wellⅠ.阅读理解A(2017·南宁二测)A new taxi service in Stockholm is offering its passengers a chance to relieve stress on the go. They've got psychotherapists (心理治疗师) occupying the back seats of the taxis, offering free consultations (咨询). The test was started by a company called Taxi Stockholm, which claims it's the first project of its kind in the world. The idea was formed when the owners of Taxi Stockholm realized that people are more likely to talk about their problems on boring, quiet drives. They even have data to back_up the theory; according to spokeswoman Natalia Santos, around 70 percent of people said their taxi journeys were a good time for reflection and that they often found their minds wandering.“And when you think about it, the dri vers can even become like therapists,” she added.Mia Fahlén, one of the psychologists on board, said that she would have to be flexible, because she wouldn't know exactly how long a trip could be. But she believes that a lot could be accomplished from eve n a short 10minute journey. It will work out cheaper than seeing a re gular therapist; an hourlong session with Fahlén costs up to 1,200 kronor ($ 165).”Natalia Santos said. When asked if this is all a publicity stunt (作秀) in the wake of their new competitors, taxiapp service Uber, Santos denied (否认) it. She said that the staff at Taxi Stockholm are actually quite optimistic about being able to help people through their service.【解题导语】本文主要讲述了瑞典一家出租车公司提供的特别服务:为乘客提供心理咨询。

Designed by Israeli company NUA Robotics, this “smart” suitcase can follow you everywhere you go.The carryon suitcase, currently a prototype(雏形), connects to a smartphone app via bluetooth. It has a builtin camera sensor that can “see” you and follow you around on flat surfaces like airport floors. It comes with an antitheft alarm to prevent someone carrying it away when you're not looking, and it has a backup (备用) battery that you can use to charge all your devices.“It can follow and carry things for people around while communicating with their smartphone, and avoiding obstacles,” explained Alex Libman, founder of NUA Robotics. “We're combining sensor network, computer vision, and robotics. So if you download our app (应用), p ress the ‘follow me’ button, the luggage recognizes its user and knows to follow and communicate.”NUA is still testing the device and trying improve features like speed and customization (客户订制), but they hope to make the suitcase available to customers in a year's time. If it proves successful, they want to use the bluetooth pairing technology to automate lots of other devices, like shopping carts at the supermarket. These devices are especially meant to be useful to the physically disabled and elderly. “A ny object can be smart and robotic,” Libman told Mashable.“We want to bring robots into everyday life.”The Israeli tech company made it clear that the finished product will look just like a regular suitcase.
