Experiment to Investigate the Relationship Between Factors Affecting

Uniform Circular Motion

Class________________

Name_______________

Aim:

1. Investigate the relationship between the speed and the radius when the centripetal force is

constant.

2. Investigate the relationship between speed and centripetal force for an object in uniform circular

motion with a certain radius.

Equipment:

 Centripetal force apparatus

 Weight hanger (to act as the weights)

 Mass (a steel ball)

 Meter rule

 Stop watch

Method:

Write a description of what you did here. Try to be as detailed as possible.

Data analysis:

If you finish test 1, now draw a graph of Velocity squared v2 (y) against Radius (r).

If you finish test 2, now draw a graph of Velocity squared v2 (y) against Centripetal Force (x).

If you finish both the two tests, please plot these on the same graph.

Conclusion:

Make sure to include the science we have learnt and how it relates to your graph and results.

Describe the shape of the gradient and what that means. Quote specific results that have a

significant pattern.

Test 1: What can you say about the relationship between speed squared and radius, from your graph.

Does this prove what we already know about uniform circular motion?

your graph. Does this prove what we already know about uniform circular motion?

Evaluation:

> Do you think your results are reliable? Are you confident that your results are accurate enough?

_____________________________________________________________________________

> Was there anything about this experiment that makes you feel less confident about your accuracy.

If so, what was it and how do you think it affected your results?
