Unit 6 Good Manners
Reading: Table Manners At A Dinner Party
(The first period)
一. 教学目标和要求
1)认知目标:
a.让学生记住中西方餐桌上餐具的名称,西餐名称及上菜顺序。
b.掌握并能熟练运用本课中所规定的“四会”“三会”单词、词组,如:napkin,
starter, dessert, custom, make a good impression, drink to someone’s health…
2)能力目标:
a.通过听录音,掌握正确的语音语调,使学生形成良好的语言习惯。
b.通过对段落结构的分析,使学生掌握skimming和scanning的阅读技巧。
c.通过任务型学习,使学生的思维能力,逻辑能力,智力都能得到提高。
3)情感目标:
a.通过对西方餐桌礼仪的讨论,培养学生跨文化交际意识。
b.通过小组活动,指导学生积极与人合作,积极与人交流,培养他们的团队合作
精神。
c.在师生互动的活动中,加强教师的亲和力,增进彼此的了解与沟通,充分发挥
情感教学的优势。

1)教学重点:
a.掌握并能熟练运用一些重点单词和短语;
b.了解中西方餐桌礼仪差异。
2)教学难点:
a.文章段落结构的分析;
b.开放性话题的实现。

五. 教学程序
Step1.Lead in
Goal:这部分的重点是激活学生已有的相关背景知识,启发学生思维和想象,引
出本课的话题-Table manners at a party,了解学生对其的认知程度,激发学生
兴趣,使学生很快融入课堂教学内容。
In 1930 a Chinese official visited America. An American friend invited him to
have a western dinner. After he sat down at the table, he used the napkin to clean
the knives and forks. The host was embarrassed(尴尬). So the host asked the
waiter to take away all the tableware (餐具)on the table and bring other pairs.
Why was the host embarrassed?
Goal:通过讲故事的形式来导入新课,能引起学生兴趣,也使学生马上意识到掌
握西方餐礼的必要性,从而引出本课主题,同时也训练了学生听说能力。
Step2.
1) Skimming

Match each part with the main idea.

Goal:让学生分析段落大意,既能培养学生略读能力,分析和概括能力,又能培
养学生的观察力。
2).Scanning
Ask students to read the whole passage carefully and find out the anwers of the
following questions. Meanwhile, teacher introduce the reading methods to
students.
1. Why is it important for people to know table manners?
2. What will you do when you sit down at the table?
3. What dishes are usually served at a western dinner party? In what order are
they served?
4. What are the proper manners of speaking and smiling at table?
5. Why is it difficult for people to follow good table manners?
6. What will you do if you are not sure what to do?
Suggested answers:
1. Knowing it can help people make a good impression.
2. You can take your napkin, unfold it and put it on your lap.

Goal:培养学生细读并发现问题的能力,通过小组讨论的方式来调动学生积极性
和参与课堂活动的能力,发挥学生的主体作用。在阅读的过程中给予学生阅读
方法的指导可以有效地帮助学生提高阅读速度和效率。
Step 3. Revision :Listen and finish the following exercises.
 People who go to a formal western dinner party for the first time may be

Goal: 通过听录音让学生巩固课文学过的知识目的在于

Step4. Ask the Ss to tell whether the behaviors are “polite” or “impolite” at a
western dinner party.(having a competition)

Goal:进一步巩固对课文的理解,通过“小组比赛”方式能充分调动学生的积极性,
活跃课堂气氛,寓教于乐中,同时也培养学生的团队精神。
Step5. Have a discussion:
A friend from Britain named Matt invites you to have a dinner at a western
restaurant at 6:00 pm.
What will you do if you wish to make a good impression?
Goal:发挥学生想象力,拓展阅读内容,培养学生传递信息并发表看法的能力 ,
使阅读与口头表达结合。教师要尽最大可能鼓励学生开口。
Step6. Summary and homework
Goal:通过总结本堂课教学内容使学生认识到不同的国家都有不同的礼仪。我们
应在日常交往中遵循基本礼仪、礼貌以及有关的行为准则,提高自己的修养。
