Cross-cultural communication
Culture Collision Analysis of Crash In recent decades, with the progress of the economic globalization, business trades among different countries and communication among people of different cultures have become more and more frequent. However, the conflicts that the
different races and religious bring to us, which cause many painful experiences, are ubiquitous. How to maintain the cultural richness while at the same time people can live in peace is the most significant problem to be solved nowadays.
Crash is a 2004 crime drama film co-written, produced, and directed by Paul Haggis. The film is about racial and social tensions in Los Angeles, California. The film reflects the cultural conflicts among Whites, Blacks, Asians and Latin Americans. As is known to all, the United States is an immigrant country. And after centuries of development, the United States has become a multicultural country. Therefore, to some extent, the movie is a mirror of the multicultural society in the United States.
As a low cost movie, that Crash can get the Oscar award reflects the success of the film from the side. The film sets the story in Los Angeles, where the cultural conflicts phenomenon is very common. These years, we can express our moods freely and we have the rights to do what we think is right, especially in America which is famous for freedom and democracy. Therefore, we get selfish step by step and we just pursue what we want or what can meet our desire. Crash tells us some ordinary people's stories. In this movie, many plots connote racial discrimination. The gap between the black and the white still exists despite the abolishment of the slavery. However, this racial discrimination not only happens between the white and the black but also exists among people of different countries like Mexicans, Chinese, and Arabians and so on. The white try their best to play the role of respecting the people of color, but in their heart, they discriminate against the people of color. The black suffer the discrimination from the white while at the same time they look down upon other people of color. Discrimination is almost common, which the movie reflects. But as a member of the earth, we are the same. Everyone should try to forgive others and admonish ourselves to avoid making prejudices. Love can reduce this kind of discrimination and make society more harmonious whether in America or in other countries.
Crash is a real microcosm of contemporary American society, highlighting the
conflicts and contradictions among multi-ethnic culture. Conflicts between African Americans and whites constitute the movie's main conflict in the movie. In my opinion, to avoid cross- cultural conflict, not only do we need to understand the concept of cross-cultural communication, but also to cultivate our cross-cultural competence. .In the wave of globalization sweeping all areas of social life in the 21st century, there are indications that the collision of different nationalities, different cultures, and different religions and so on will become an important factor which affects the stability of the world. .From the consideration of national interests and long-term development, we must take part in international economic competition actively and learn to respect the values of different cultures.。
