I. Use of this Document
1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to establish the qualification
process that Pure Fishing will use to insure the quality of Rods
produced for any of the Pure Fishing brands by using any or all of
the following sections:
a. Quality inspection by PF inspector at the factory and receiving
location
b. Individual SKU Specifications and special inspection
instructions provided on share point web (purefishing
sharepoint environment>product development>product
specification>specification dashboard)
c. The qualification tests and procedures included in this
document.
2.0 QUANTITIES The standard quantity of products required for qualification and
development will be 6 pieces. (Including finished rods and rod
blanks.) However for prototype and costing qualification one
sample only is required.
3.0 CLASSIFICATION Initial samples received from a vendor for the purpose of costing
or specification changes are classified as tentative and are
subject to the same qualification and testing (PROD 7.3-01-07) as
current production rods.
4.0 NOTE This document is prepared by Pure Fishing CTC. Any
misunderstanding or questions about this document please
contact Pure Fishing CTC.
Specifications and special inspection procedures for specific rods
will be released by PF or CTC Spec. writer.
Qualification testing and documentation will be done in a rod
laboratory located at PF CTC. This lab and test procedure will be
used to verify or resolve any quality issues relating to PF rods.
Tests can be requested by PF inspectors, engineers, or factory
personnel. Also the qualification testing will be used to evaluate
and document competitors’ rods.

II. Specification Testing
Following are the tests that will be used to evaluate the quality of competitors' products,
develop new products and assist in the inspection process. The tests described in this
procedure are designed to insure that all fishing rods manufactured for Pure Fishing
meet the PF requirements. Various tests are conducted at each phase of the process
including the design, raw material, manufacturing steps and completed product. Due to
the unique design and function of fly rods this procedure was revised to include a
special procedure for fly rods as described on relevant items. The raw material tests are
routine in-process tests and are not described in this procedure.
Test plan:
1. Tests conducted to verify a design, or a supply of current design of rods. The tests
will be conducted on 6 pieces of each model and in the sequence shown in the rods
qualification test form. Qualification testing may also be requested by Pure Fishing
inspectors or suppliers for verification of quality.
2. Tests conducted to verify raw materials for all models. The test frequency is shown
in parenthesis.
a. Resin Content (production run)
b. Average Fiber Weight (production run)
c. Volatile Content (production run)
d. Tip Strength Test (production run)
e. Guide ring security (production run)
f. Cork grade (production run)
g. R/S function (production run)
3. Tests to verify process control for casting and spinning models. Sample size shown
in parenthesis.
a. Bend test (100% inspection)
b. Tip twist strength and adhesion of top (6pcs each batch) 13.1
c. Flex test (6 pieces for each batch) 10.3
d. Tip Hang Down test (6 pieces for each batch) 9.8
e. Tip flex and strength test (6 pieces for each batch) 10.2
f. Guide alignment (100% inspection)
g. Guide security (100% inspection)
h. Handle and R/S glue joint (100% inspection)
i. Ferrule fit (100% inspection)
4. Final inspection tests for casting and spinning models please refer to rod inspection
procedure.
5. The primary test for fly rods is the Fly Rod Pull Test. This test will be used to verify
design, process and as a final inspection test. Process and final inspection tests will be
conducted on 6 rods from each batch.
The Rods Qualification test form (PROD 7.3-01-07) is located on share point web
(purefishing sharepoint environment>product development>product
