Module 5 Newspapers and MagazinesPeriod One Introduction; Reading and VocabularyThe General Idea of This PeriodThis period includes Introduction as well as Reading and Vocabulary. Introduction can serve as a warming up of the passage. To make Ss fully prepared for the study of the passage, the teacher may encourage Ss to speak out as many vocabularies in relation to newspapers and magazines as they can, which appear in Reading and Vocabulary. The reading test is a piece of news which mainly represents to us the event in which Yang Liwei, the Chinese Taikonaut, travels in space. It is suggested that Ss should first skim the reading passage and get the general idea of each paragraph and then join them into a short passage.Teaching Aims 1.Know about the vocabularies about newspapers and magazines: article, front page,front cover headline, celebrity, editor, fashion, international, journalist, politics, photographer2. Before learning this section, you may ask Ss to introduce some funny newspapers and magazines or one of their columns.Brainstorming — bring as many words about newspapers and magazines as possible.Then you can write the words on the blackboard. Teach them to pronounce the words they don’t know.
