Unit one Describing People Lesson 1 She is pretty Teaching aims: pronounce and spell the new words correctly say some simple sentences about appearances Teaching important points: The new words in this lesson Some key phrases Teaching difficult points: How to use the new words correctly Teaching period: one class Teaching process: Quotation: Greet the students and make a self-introduction to them. Then let them introduce themselves one by one, say something about everyone. New lessons: Say today we are going to learn some new words and some simple sentences about appearances. Now let’s listen to the recorder and try to imitate the pronunciation. Play the tape for the Ss and explain each word and some key phrases for them by using the example sentences. 1. average height中等身材 . He is average height among us. 2. Stand out突出,站出来,杰出,脱颖而出 ,清晰的显现出 . 1. He stood out in this basketball match. 2. when he put the paper in the water , a picture stood out quickly. 3. a pair of 一对,一双,一副,一条 . 1. She wears a pair of red glasses. 2. He wears a pair of black jeans. 4. be friendly to Sb对某人友好 . The boy is friendly to everyone. 5. try to do sth尽力做。。。 . We should try to help our friends. Play the tape again and give the Ss a few minutes to review the new words, then ask some of them to read the new words to the whole class and pay attention to correct their mistakes. Then using different ways to train the new words and make sure the Ss can master them well. Practice: Let the Ss finish the task 1 and task 2 first, then check the answers with them. He is/looks/has/wears… The –er and –est of adj. and adv. Teaching difficult points: How to use the patterns and –er/ -est correctly and freely. Teaching period: one class Teaching process: Revision: check the new words learned in the last class and make sure the Ss can master them well. do you know how to describe a person’s appearance Well, this class we will learn about that. But before our new class, I’d like you to describe my appearance in English or in Chinese. Who would like to do it first Ask some volunteers to give their report. New lessons: Task1. read and match Make sure the SS know the meaning of these words: age/ build/ eyes/ height/ looks. Then let them fill these words in correct blanks. Discuss the words used to describe persons’ appearance with the Ss, and ask them to try to describe their deskmates using these words. Task 2. Listen and fill in the blanks Tell the SS we are going to listen to a dialogue between Mary and Alice, listen to the tape carefully and fill in the blanks according to what you have heard. Check their answers and explain some useful phrases and patterns. Look like看起来像… . What does he look like He has short yellow hair , black eyes. in one’s twenties在某人二十多岁的时候 . I forgot closing the window. Task 3. Ask and answer Learn some communicative language which are used to describe persons’ appearance before doing the task . How old are you How old is he/she What does he/she look like He/ She is... 1.)What clothes is he/she wearing What is he/she wearing He/ She is wearing ... 2.)What clothes does he/she usually wear He/she usually wears… Practice these patterns with the Ss and make sure they know how to use them, then let the Ss practice the sentences in pairs. Task 4. Look and compare Explain the usage of –er and est to the Ss first, then ask the Ss to finish the task individually. Check their answers with the whole class and correct their mistakes. Task5. Look and describe Read the example to the Ss and let them know what they should do in this part. Then divide the Ss into groups to describe the four persons. After that, let some groups to report their results to the other Ss. Task 6. Role play Let the Ss work in pair to play the different part and guess who it is by asking and answering the questions.
