2019届江苏高三英语一模分类汇编-----任务型阅读Do the Right ThingIn life, people feel most satisfied when they choose options that side with their most deeply held values. Here’s how to stay true to yours. If you hope to have your life shaped according to your ideals, you have to know what those ideals are. Perhaps begin sessions by identifying the concepts that are most important from a list: honesty, structure, family and so on. Those qualities are influenced by your parents, your culture and society as a whole, but you have to lake ownership of your own decisions.Almost all of these qualities are things most of us desire to hold dear. To determine which principles are more than just desires, reflect on situations that resonate(共鸣)with yourself.Identifying your values will guide you in the right direction, but a few strategies can help you follow through. Before you make a big decision,do something that will put you in high spirit exercise, socialize with friends, volunteer. Researchers theorize that such activities improve our mood, which promotes dopamine levels in certain areas of the brain, improving our cognitive abilities and helping us weigh different options.Trouble is, the toughest decisions often arrive at the most inconvenient limes. When you’re under force, ask a family member, a friend or. in certain cases, a professional for advice. They can provide advice that’s not slightly influenced by the work deadline,or leaky roof gradually weakening your mental energy.Of course, people make decisions that contradict their ideals all the time. There are lots of values we hold dear and they frequently come into conflict with one another. It’s not so much that people don't know what they warn; it’s that there ar e many things we desire, and we don’t always know how to compromise. While a single decision can seem like a tug-of-war between competing desires, broader life choices don't need to be a definitive either/or question. One who likes traveling worldwide might temporarily put off a grand trip to explore locations closer to home,or commit to setting aside time for vacation with their family every summer, no matter what else comes up.Surround yourself with people who, besides sharing your passion, can also prevent you from hesitating.A group can remind you,“Hey,we’re doing this because we love it.”If you’re still struggling, even after seeking out community support, there’s no shame in revising your core values. If you’re determined to take part in a charity program but spend the evening with friends instead, it maybe time lo accept that friendship is more important to you than volunteerism. Better yet, find opportunities to continue the charity program with your friends. You may learn that what you believed was a core priority actually has much more to do with living up to what your parents, co-workers or others expect. If your values agree with who you really are, no one will have to ask you to make those choices.Title: Do the Right ThingPassageoutlineProblem It’s most satisfying to make choices which 71.can you stay true to yours?your values. But howDetailed informationKnow your values● Identify your values. In our work consulting with companies and coaching leaders, we have found that if you’re looking to develop particular EI strengths, it helps to consider areas for improvement others have identified along with the goals you want to achieve----and then to actively build habits in those areas rather than simply relying on understanding them conceptually. The first step is to get a sense of how your self-perception(how you see yourself)differs from your reputation (how others see you). This is especially true for the development of emotional intelligence because we can be blind to how we express and read the emotional components of our interactions. For example, most of us think that we’re good listeners, but very often that’s really not the case. Without this external reality check,it will be difficult for you to identify the ways that your actions affect your performance. Getting feedback from others can also provide proof of the necessity of shifting our behavior and motivation to do so.To give you the best sense of where the differences lie between your self-perception and reputation, you should use a 360-drgree feedback assessment that takes into account the multiple facets of EI. The key is to find one that guarantees confidentiality to those giving you feedback and that is focused on development and not on performance assessment.Secondly, when you get your feedback from an assessment, let that inform what you want to improve. But also consider what your goals are. When it comes to cultivating strengths in emotional intelligence, you’re at a huge disadvantage if you’re only interested because others said you should be.Your emotional intelligence is so tied up in hour sense of self that being intrinsically(内在的)motivated to make the effort matters more when changing longstanding habits than it does when simply learning a skill. That means the areas that you choose to actively work on should lie at the intersection of the feedback you’ve gotten and the areas that are most important to your own aspirations(渴望). Understanding the impacts of your current EI habits relative to your goals will keep you going over the long haul as you do the work of strengthening your emotional intelligence.Once you’ve determined which EI skills you want to focus on, identify specific actions that you’ll take. If you’re working on becoming a better listener, for example, you might decide thatwhen you’re conversing with someone you’ll take the time to pause, listen to what they have to say, and check that you understand before you reply. Keep it specific. You should also take every naturally occurring opportunity to practice the skill you’re developing, no matter how small.By starting to change your routine reactions, you’ll be well on your way to figuring out the old habits that aren’t serving you well and transforming them into new, improved ones that do.Passageoutline IntroductionSupporting detailsThough globally acknowledged, EI still (71)___▲___ professionals, for they aren’t aware of how to improve it.Spot the (72)___▲___ betweenself-perception andreputationApproaches to strengthening EI●With external reality check, we are (73)___▲___ ofunderstanding our interactions accurately.●We are(74)___▲___ to change our behavior bygetting an outside feedback.●We are expected to (75) ___▲___ how self-perceptiondiffers from reputation in all aspects.●We should clearly (77) ___▲___ our goals and focusour effort on improving ourselves instead of justlearning a skill.●(78) ___▲___ the outside feedback with our goalscan give us support on the way to strengthening ourEI.Be (79) ___▲___about the actions and take advantage ofevery possible opportunity to practice EI skills.Find out what (76)___▲___ to usIdentify what changeswe will makeSummary(80) ___▲___ useless old habits and develop new ones in areas for improvement others have identified with your own goals to strengthen your EI.南通Life can be overwhelming (令人不知所措的).We want to do as much as we can, see the world, learn new things— and it can all get a bit too much. Sometimes we reach a point when we feel that we can no longer be interested in everything. We have to shut some of life out, and we don’t like that. We are living under the fal se assumption that to know anything worthwhile takes years of study, so we might as well forget it.But sometimes inside us rebels. We still want to learn new things and make new things. They don’t have to be big things. Coping with too big a challenge can be daunting (令人怯步的).The secret is to be a “micromaster” by perfecting lots and lots of small things — for a big payoff.A micromastery is a self-contained unit of doing, complete in itself, but connected to a greater field. You can perfect that single thing and move on to bigger things. A micromastery is the way we learn as kids. You never absorb all the fundamentals straight away一you learn one cool thing, then another. Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has written about “flow”一a state in which time seems to be suspended because our involvement in what we’re doing is so great. A micromastery, because it is repeatable without being repetitious, has all the elements that allow us to enter a flow state, which produces great contentment. As we get older our default setting (默认设置)becomes “off” not “on”. We stop getting interested in new things because we haven’t got enough time or energy. This is an excuse but whocan blame us when we hear we need 10,000hours to “master” something. Micromastery slicesthro ugh all the excuses. You start with something so small and easy that it doesn’t impact on yourlife except positively. We envy the person who has a perfect French accent, who can roll kayak, or compose apoem that isn’t laughable, who can lay a brick wall that doesn’t fall down. These are regardedas hard things to learn which mean a greater mastery of the filed concerned. But withmicromastery you can start with the test piece and then— and only then— do you go backupstream to learn anything more about the new world.Seeing the world in terms of micromasteries makes anything seem possible. Fancy bookbinding? Yoga? Tap dancing or tank driving? All have their micromasteries. It’s very liberating— you no longer have to feel trapped in your day job. You will start, in a small way, toget your life back from the idea that the world seems to push on us that we should do just onething all our lives.-An annoying situation23.We are too (71)▲to accomplish everything we areinterested in and sometimes we have to make a trade-off.♦We take it for granted that anything worthwhile doesn’t have an (72)▲payoff, so we might as well forget it.♦ Instead of accomplishing big things, the secret is to be a micromaster bystarting (73)▲.♦It is connected to a greater field. Then, because those people banded together to build a tower in Babylon that glorified their own achievements, rather than those of their deity (神), God punished them. He ensured that mankind spoke different languages so that they would never be able to work together to dishonor God again. Was there once just a single language that all people could understand? Linguists don’t know; there’s just not enough information about the origins of language, and there are only theories about how our early ancestors formed their first words and sentences. Did early people imitate soundsthey heard in the environment?Did they babble until certain sounds took on meaning? We’ll probably never know, though linguists still study baby brains to determine if language or grammar comes naturally in our heads. One prominent theory about the development of the first languages relates to tools and resources. Teaching another person how to use tools requires a certain, agreed-upon vocabulary, as does the process of sharing and protecting resources like food and shelter. Small groups of people living in close quarters would therefore need to develop a way to understand each other, so they came up with a vocabulary and syntax that meant something to them. A group of people across the world, though, would probably need an entirely different vocabulary of words, so the languages would have developed differently in isolation. So these small groups of people, living in isolation from one another, agreed on names for their tools and food, and they came up with ways to describe how resources would be divided. But when another group migrated into the area, or came with different resources to trade, the groups had to find a way to merge (融合) their different vocabularies and communicate. Over time, that’s how languages have developed, and as some groups conquered others, that’s how some languages died out.Travel among groups who speak different languages has been difficult over history. In a global world, wouldn’t there be a benefit to speak the same language? Some groups have advocated that a universal language be adopted, but it would be difficult to find any group willing to give up their own language if only because so much culture and history becomes rooted in it over time. After all, the English would no sooner give up the language of Shakespeare than the Spanish would abandon the tongue of Cervantes. Attempts to create a universal second language have failed as well, but even if we could agree on a common language,it’s unlikely it would resemble itself100years from now. After all, thanks to the Internet’s influence, language has become a mix of emoticons and abbreviations like LOL. Languages simply evolve too rapidly to ever speak just one.Why Don’t All People Speak the Same Language?A biblical account of●God punished those who built a tower in honor of their own why people spoke achievements by confusing their language so they could no longer different languages___71___ to dishonor God.●Whether there existed a language all could understand. Vivek Murthy, the former United States surgeon general, has written that loneliness and social isolation are “associated with a reduction in life span similar to that caused by smoking 15 cigarettes a day and even g reater than that associated with obesity.”But is loneliness,as many political officials and pundits are warning,a growing“health epidemic” (流行病)?I don’t believe so, nor do I believe it helps anyone to describe it that way. Social disconnection is a serious matter, yet if we set off a panic over its prevalence (流行) and impact, we’re less likely to deal with it properly.Anxiety about loneliness is a common feature of modern societies. Today, two major causes of loneliness seem possible. One is that societies throughout the world have embraced a culture of individualism. More people are living alone, and aging alone, than ever. Neoliberal (新自由主义的) social policies have turned workers into insecure free agents, and when jobs disappear, things fall apart fast. Labor unions, civic associations, neighborhood organizations, religious groups and other traditional sources of social solidarity are in steady decline.Increasingly,we all feel that we’re on our own.The other possible cause is the rise of communication technology, including smartphones, social media and the internet.A decade ago, companies like Facebook,Apple and Google promised that their products would help create meaningful relationships and communities. Instead, we’ve used the media system to deepen existing divisions, at both the individual and group levels. We may have thousands of“friends”and“followers”on Facebook and Instagram, but when it comes to human relationships, it turns out there’s no substitute for building them the o ld-fashioned way, in person. In light of these two trends,it’s easy to believe we’re experiencing an“epidemic”of loneliness and isolation. Surprisingly, though, the best data do not actually show a boom in either loneliness or social isolation. Yet the research tells us something more specific. In places like the United States and Britain,it’s the poor, unemployed, displaced(无家可归的)and migrant populations that are suffering most from loneliness and isolation. Their lives are unstable, and so are their relationships. When they get lonely, they are the least able to get adequate social or medical support.Passage outline ResearchSupporting detailsLoneliness is likely to cause various kinds of medical consequencesfindingThe a uthor’sopinion unless (71)▲ .♦Loneliness is not a growing “health epidemic”.♦ Don’t take loneliness too (72)▲, which may result in panic and (73)▲to handle it properly.♦A culture of individualism has become(74)▲all over the world. An analysis of possible causes of loneliness ♦People are doing(75)▲jobs and traditional sources of socialsolidarity are declining.♦(76)▲to what some companies promised, the development ofcommunication technology are (77)▲the situation.♦ Traditional face-to-face communication is the (78)▲way to build human relationship.♦We are (79)▲by the two trends into believing we areConclusionsexperiencing a loneliness epidemic, but it isn’t the case.♦ Some groups of people are still suffering from loneliness and isolation, among whom social and medical support are badly (80)▲.参考答案苏锡常镇71. match72. shape73. factors74. determining/deciding 75. mood76. Elephants have 20 copies. Scientists found that gene can cause a"zombie gene" to come back to life with a new purpose: killing cells in damaged DNA.This is beneficial. because it acts in response to genetic mistakes, errors made when the DNA is being repaired, said Vincent Lynch, an assistant professor of human genetics at the University of Chicago and the study's lead author, in a statement. " Getting rid of chat cell can prevent a subsequent cancer. "Scientists say the gene also helps elephants enjoy long lives. They likely emerged roughly 25 to 30 million years ago, when small - sized ancestors of modern elephants grew bigger, Lynch said.Researchers want to conduct more studies to find out exactly how the genes in elephants kill off cells in damaged DNA. That could help humans: Studying how animals' bodies fight off cancer could lead to strategies to treat people. An estimated 17% of people worldwide die of cancer, according to the study published in the journal Cell Reports."If we can understand how these genomic changes (基因组变化) are contributing to cancer resistance, then we'll be able lo start chinking about how we translate these to our patients. "Joshua Schiffman professor of pediatrics at University of Utah and an investigator at Huntsman Cancer Institute, said in an interview with CNN.28. How many people die of cancer.B. What kind of gene can kill the caneerC. Why we adopt the strategies to treat people.D. How the genes defeat the cells in damaged DNA.DCigarette ends are everywhere ---- littering our streets and beaches ---- and for decades they’ve been thought o f as "unrecyclable". But a New Jersey based company, called TerraCycle, has taken on the challenge, and has come up with a way to recycle millions of cigarette ends and turn them into industrial plastic products. Its aim is to recycle things that people normally consider impossible to reuse.Obviously it would be even better for the environment if everyone just stopped smoking, but the statistics show that although there has been an increase in anti-smoking ads and messaging, between 2000 and 2014,global sales of cigarettes increased by 8 percent, and a whole lot of those cigarette ends are ending up as trash. Since most of our litter eventually ends up in waterways, cigarette ends can surely pollute the surrounding environment. "It only takes a single cigarette end to pollute a liter of water," TerraCycle founder,Tom Szaky, said. "Animals can also mistake littered cigarette ends for food. "So how do you go about turning all those poisonous ends into something useful?TerraCycle does this by first breaking them down into separate parts. They mix the remaining materials, such as the tobacco and the paper, with other kinds of rubbish, and use it on non-agricultural land, such as golf courses. The filters (过滤嘴) are a little harder. To recycle these,TerraCycle first makes them clean and cuts them into small pieces, and then combines them with other recycled materials, making them into liquid for industrial plastic products. They’re now also expanding their recycling offerings to the rest of the 80 percent of household waste that currently can’t be recycled, such as chocolate packaging, pens, and mobile phones. The goal is to use the latest research to find a way to stop so much waste ending up in landfill (垃圾填埋),and then get companies to provide money for the process. And so far,it’s working."We haven’t found anything that we can’t recycle,"communications director of TerraCycle,Albe Zakes, said. "But with the amount and variety of packaging and litter in the world,we are always looking for new waste streams to address. "32. What does TerraCycle intend to do?______A. Search for recyclable materials for use.B. Deal with as many cigarette ends as possible.C. Produce new kinds of industrial plastic products.D. Recycle what used to be considered unrecyclable.33. The underlined word "trash" in Paragraph 2 probably means ______ .A. rubbishB. poisonC. disasterD. ruin34. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?______A. The effective use of cigarette ends.B. The process of recycling cigarette ends.C. The difficulty in recycling cigarette ends.D. The reason for breaking down cigarette ends.35. Some health care systems in the United States now offer Virtual Urgent Care, patients see a doctor by video chat without having to leave home.Diana Rae is a nurse educator in the western state of Washington. She recently showed how Virtual Urgent Care works. She used an iPad tablet andskype — the video chat service.Doctor Green has the patient describe her symptoms, then the doctor performs a physical exam by demonstrating what he wants her to do. Doctor Green decides that the problem is a silence infection. For medicine, he prescribes an antibiotic. He says about 3 out of 4 patients have health problems that can be treated like this —through Virtual Urgent Care, that means a video chat could replace a visit to the doctor's office. The Franciscan Health System is based in Tacoma, Washington. Franciscan charges $35 for this kind of virtual house call, that is much less than the cost of going to an emergency room, a doctor's office or an urgent care clinic. After trying the video conference, Diana Rae says, “I would've paid twice that for the convenience of getting taken care of without having to sit in a waiting room, wait, an d get exposed to everyone else's germs.”Franciscan has a deal with a company called Carena to add virtual urgent care by Skype or phone. Carena is one of several companies doing this kind of work around the country. But a company official says state rules have not kept progress with developments in telemedicine. Of course, any shirt can be worn for that long, if smell is not a problem. However, the Wool & Prince shirt is different because it remains as fresh smelling as it was — the first day it was put on. And it never needs ironing, because it never wrinkles. While that may sound magical and even impossible, it is true. The secret to their success lies in the raw material used to make the shirt — wool instead of cotton. Not only are wool fibers about four times stronger than cotton, but thanks to the natural crimp(皱褶), they also do not wrinkle as easily. But most importantly, the fiber is better at allowing moisture to escape. Sweat in itself is not smelly. It just gets that way when in contact with the human skin. Therefore, the fact that the fabric allows it to go off gives the shirt the “super power” to stay fresh after so many wears. You can get this magical shirt for $98, which is the current selling price on fund-raising site Kickstarter. The company hopes to use the funds collected to begin producing the shirts. If things go well, Wool & Prince is planning to introduce other clothing, including similar dresses for women.Well, you’ve got your favorite pair of jeans already. You might as well add your new favorite shirts y ou’ll never have to wash or hang up either. They are surely a perfect match!33.What is the character of the special shirt made by Mac Brown?A.
