Act OneLeah: Okay, I've thought about your offer and I've decided to take the job.D: Leah, that's fantastic.Leah: But, as you know, I’m still a student at the university, so this job can only be part-time. I was thinking three evenings a week and all day Fridays.D: That will be perfect.L: but, there's only one other thing. I don't quite know how to say it.D: Listen, be direct. If we're going to work together, it's important that we communicate.Leah: Well, I like to be organised. And this place is a mess.D: you're right. I've had a lot on my mind lately.L: You said it was okay for me to speak my mind, right? You look terrible.D: It was my anniversary last night. I had the best of intentions, but things didn't start off very well. You see, I'd been saving this fabulous bottle of wine from my wedding. I was saving it for a special occasion. I'd kept it locked in my basement where nothing could happen to it. Oh, my…Oh, my.Leah: That’s terrible. What did you do next?D: I had to replace the bottle. But the bottle I broke was a unique vintage.Leah: Sorry, I couldn’t quite understand. What did you mean by “vintage”?D: Vintage means the year that the wine was produced. The bottle was from 1989. it was very rare. Not to mention the special memories that it held. Anyway , I went to the winery determined to replace that exact bottle.Clerk: Hi.Dashan: Hi. I’d like to buy a bottle of your ’89 ice wine.Clerk: Oh, I'm sorry, we haven't sold that vintage for years.Dashan: Oh.Clerk: I have the ’96. Would you like to try that?D: No. I really need the ’89. Ah, is Donald Zeraldo in?Clerk: No, he's away. He'll be back tomorrow.D: what about Debbie?Clerk: Um, Debbie's out on tour. You might be able to catch her next to the vineyard.Leah: I’m sorry. I’m not very clear on the meaning of “ice wine”.D: Ice wine is made from frozen grapes. They’re picked in the wintertime when it’s very very cold. Canada has the perfect temperature for ice wine.Leah: What does ice wine taste like?D: It's very sweet and has the aroma of peaches and mangoes.Debbie: Once the grapes are destemmed and then fermented out in the first building, they would come in here to the stainless steel tanks and be put…We're just having a tour if you'd care to join us.Dashan: sure.Debbie: Okay. So the grapes would go off into here and the wine would be finished, cleaned and clarified. And then what we're going to do now is proceed down to the underground vault. So just follow me here and we'll go down the stairs to the underground vault.Leah: what is an underground vault?D: you'll see in a sec. It's a chamber below ground that's kept very cool and dark so the wines don't spoil.Debbie: This is our underground vault with all the most valuable and rare wines in it , including our ice wines. And just over here we have the barrels that contain our rather expensive pinot noir. all of these barrels are made in France and run about 850 dollars a barrel. So they would age here in the cool temperature and give complexity to the wines and again make them very expensive as well. I think we should taste a few.Dashan: Debbie!---Oh, no, I'm trapped.Leah: You were trapped in the vault?Dashan: Like they say: " Curiosity killed the cat."Leah: They really liked the material you sent them last week. Oh, this is bad. They moved our schedule up by six weeks.Dashan: That'll be tight. but I think we can pull it off.Act TwoD: Okay, thank you, bye.Leah: Any luck?Dashan: No, they can't give us an extension. We'll never finish in time.Leah: I'm not so sure. I've looked at your schedule and you just might be able to do it. Now, it'll mean cancelling your trip to China.D: And I could combine my two trips to Vancouver into one. This might just work. Here, let me show you the rest of the winery piece.Debbie: This is the underground vault with all of our rare wines and ice wines in here. Dashan? My goodness. What are you doing here?Dashan: I was just looking for some ice wine.Debbie: Oh, gosh. The rest of you go to the bottling line. I'll be right back. Donald's been looking all over for you.Dashan: Really?Debbie: Well, I think you'd better come with me and get a little warmer.Dashan: Okay.Debbie: Here's Donald here.Donald: Dashan, how are you?Dashan: I’m glad to see you.Donald: You look terrible. What happened?Dashan: I've been fermenting.Donald: Well, Come and join me for a glass of ice wine. I'm tasting one of the last vintages and i thought you might be interested in sharing it with me.Dashan: I sure would. It's funny you should mention ice wine because that is why i'm here. Do you remember the ice wine you gave me for my wedding a few years back?Donald: Yes.Dashan: Well, I saved a bottle for a special occasion. Today, I got it out and broke it.Donald: Oh, how unfortunate. Well, I think we should be able to get a bottle from the vault here of one of the other vintages.Dashan: That's great. I need a 1989.Donald:You're kidding me. That's the great vintage. I don't have any more 1989.Dashan: That was that very rare vintage that won the award in France. It's all gone. I'm sorry. It's a special occasion?Dashan: Yeah, It's for our fifth anniversary.Donald: Ah, well. Just hang on a sec. I may have something that's maybe even more appropriate. Hang on a sec. Let me check---This is a special bottle done for the dragon ball that we did last year in Toronto.Dashan: Oh, that's the Chinese New Year's celebration in Toronto.Donald: Please. Don't break this one. Don't drop it.Dashan: Okay.Donald: This is ah…I hope appropriate. Would you sort of share a little bit of the one I’m tasting with me?Dashan: I’d love to.Donald: There you go. That's the '96 vintage.Dashan: Thank you. Ganbei.Leah: So, " All's well that ends well."Dashan: Exactly. I managed to get the bottle home without breaking it. Any my wife and I had a terrific anniversary dinner.Leah: Congratulations. The wine looked great. Oh, I'm dying to try it.Dashan: Which reminds me. Donald was very gracious. I must remember to send him a thank you note.Leah: You know, I was thinking your adventure at the winery would make a great episode for the series.Dashan: you don’t think I look too silly? Dropping the wine and everything?Leah: No, we all make mistakes.Dashan: And like you said: “All’s well that ends well.”------Leah: Exactly. Now, we have no time to waste. I've booked you on a flight to Vancouver the day after tomorrow---Now tomorrow I have classes all day but I'm going to go down to the travel agent and pick up your tickets at lunch time.Dashan: Leah, don't be silly. I'll do that.Leah: No, it's part of my new job. Besides, with the new deadline, you've got bigger fish to fry.。
