当热带气旋登陆或北移到较高纬度的海域时，因失去了其赖以生存的高温高湿条件，会很快消亡。大量的热带气旋生成于赤道辐合带中，赤道辐合带的北侧是强大的副热带高压。热带气旋的移动主要受副热带高压南侧的偏东气流引 导，向偏西方向移动，这类热带气旋常会在我国东南沿海至越南沿海登陆。有时副热带高压位置偏东，当热带气旋移动到副热带高压西缘时，受那里的偏南或西南气流引导，热带气旋会转向偏北或东北方向移动，登陆我国鲁辽沿海或朝鲜、日本，甚至在日本以东洋面上北上。
