Good morning , everyone . I’m very glad to be here with you to share my major and interest . My name is XXX,and my major is condensed matter physics .I’m come from the college of physics .Today ,I will show you some interesting things about the amorphous glass .The title of my speech is “amorphous glass and our life”.Firstly ,please allow me to introduce you the structure of my speech .In my speech, I will introduce my topic in three part s. The first part is “what is the amorphous substance”. Then, I will talk about “how it been found and developed”. The last, I will show you the trend about the glass in world. Now, let’s watch the first part. What’s the amorphous substance? Well, it didn’t has an accurate definition in the world till now. But most people admitted that the amorphous substance has the irregular arrangement, uncertain melting point, and isotropic character when compared to the crystal. Like the pictures show. Well, maybe it i sn’t too easy to understand those physical terms, let me show you some usual amorphous substance. The left one is silica gel, and the right one is glass. From the picture, we can realize the widely use of the glass. And also, there are many famous scientists who devoted themselves to the amorphous research in the world. For example, Anderson, Mott, Gao Kun, Flory, who are all the owner of the Nobel Prizes. Especially ,the most famous guy is him, who’s Chinese name is Gao Kun, and he created the new method to communicate with the glass fiber. The next, I will show you the history of amorphous glass’s finding and development. In the ancient times, our ancestors had already began to use the amorphous glass. The famous one is obsidian. They take it as the knife to cut meat. And the first real meaningful glass was created in 5000 years ago, by the Babylonians. And in the sixteenth century B.C., the ancient Egyptians found the method to make glass container like the picture shows. It is found in Kwantil Pilanixi. In our country, in the third century B.C to the fourth century B.C, there were several glass decoration in the sword of the Yue’s king. Over time, more and more varieties of glasses have been created. For example, in the 1673—1676, Englishman Ravenscvofe created the Lead glass. Several years later, Knaff created the bulk and large glass in 1688. From then, the glass become the usual substance in our life. After several decades’ development, many high quality transparent glass was created and those glasses were mostly used in the science research. Such as the telescope. The left one is the famous scientist Galilelo and his telescope, and the right one is the scene that he was observing the star. In the modern times, there are too much varieties of new glasses. In 1873, Belgiam created the first plate glass in the world, and then people began to use the glasses instead of the paper to keep warm. The metallic glass was also been created several years ago. Now, many kinds of glasses have been used in our world, for example, the architecture, transportation, optics, electronics, and so on.The last part, I want to talk about the develop trend about the glass in three directions. The first one is metallic glass alloy. It was created in the 1970s, by the American scientists. But the research and exploration about it can be long to go. The metallic glass has many advantages and characters, for example, the fine soft magnetic properties, the high magnetic permeability and the high resistivity. So it can be widely used in the transformer. Like the pictures show. The other one is the solar cell. People can take it as an important source to get the clean energy. The below picture is a good idea, solar tent. In this tent, the solar cell can apply the energy to lighting, cook, and so on. And the most exciting one is the liquid metal. Maybe everyone has already watched the movies---Terminator. In the movie, the liquid body of the T-1000 was so cool and deathless. In the fact, the liquid metal can be possible. It is one of the metallic glasses, and it will melt when the temperature is low, so it can realize self healing easily.OK, that’s the most thing I want to talk about today. In the end, I want to share with you a Ignoble Nobel Prizes. It is made by Thomas Parnell. Its purpose is to prove that “Bitumen is liquid rather than the solid”. Its process is very long. The first drop of bitumen wastes 8 years. And when the guy died, he only saw three drops. But, excitingly, his relay John Menston and others have taken the photo of the drops successfully. This experiment is continuing now, and it will lasts for another 100 years to go.Ok, that’s all, thank you!。
