美丽的颜色艾芙.居里①玛丽·斯可罗多夫斯卡的学生生活中最愉快的时期，是在顶楼里度过的；玛丽·居里现在又要在一个残破的小屋里，尝到新的极大的快乐了。
这是一种奇异的新的开始，这种艰苦而且微妙的快乐（无疑地在玛丽以前没有一个妇女体验过），两次都挑选了最简陋的布景。

灯身由两部分组成，下半部是一个空心半圆的灯座，上面是椭圆的容器，灯罩是薄薄的玻璃罩子，并加了一个白瓷印花的漂亮灯伞。
灯盖上有一个用以调整灯芯高低、调节灯光亮度的活动转轴。
这盏罩灯挂在里屋炕中央的位置，几节活动铁勾控制灯的高度，不用的时候铁钩撤掉灯升到高处，使用时铁钩接上，灯垂下来。
那个时候，有一盏这样的玻璃灯就是一件值得炫耀的事情了。
母亲白天要到生产队劳动，所以记忆里的晚饭多是掌灯之后才做。
母亲一般是先点了灶堂的火，再用一根菁杆从灶堂引火把灯点燃，因为这样可以节省一根火柴。
母亲打理着锅上的事情，我们也帮着烧火，蒸汽和着饭香在空气里弥散，油灯的微光便陶醉了似地闪闪烁烁、明明灭灭，温暖而亲切。
在等饭熟的当儿，我们姐妹三人，便在灶旁的油灯下，围着母亲转来转去，这时巧手的母亲教我们手影，双手交叉、屈伸变换成不同动物的.姿态，灯光把一双双大手小手的影子，投到对面墙壁上，于是奔跑的马、会跳的小兔、鸣叫着的公鸡，连同我们小小的身影、俏皮的羊角辫便一一生动地活跃在墙壁上，这一幕至今记忆犹新。
晚饭的时候，一家人暖暖地围在一起，油灯下看不清大家的脸，连一向严厉的父亲，在油灯下也显得比平时和蔼许多。
碗里的热气在头顶上围成一个圈，浓浓地罩着那油灯，形成了一个柔和的金黄色的光晕。
关在门外的西北风，在门外叫着、拍打着，想从门缝里挤进来，这时，油灯总要警觉地伸长脖子，不安地跳跃着。
母亲便适时地拿一枚针来细心地挑去灯上的火花，然后慈祥地看着我们，慢声细语地和父亲聊着“大事”，于是，家、油灯和油灯下的饭桌，在我最初记忆里有了深刻印象。
