或主系表结构(如:The man is a teacher.)。
People feared that weakening a 21-year-old ban on the sale of ivory would encourage illegal hunting and hurt elephant populations.【句意】二十一年来,象牙交易一直被明令禁止,人们担心削弱这一禁令会助长非法捕猎,导致大象数量减少。
【分析】that 引导宾语从句,从句中谓语动词是encourage和hurt,根据逻辑意义,可知encourage和hurt 的主语是动名词短语weakening a 21-year-old ban on the sale of ivory。
Economists from the University of Sussex analysed findings from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, a 15-year research project charting the fortunes of a group of thousands of teenagers who attended high schools in the US in the mid-1990s.【句意】来自萨塞克斯大学的经济学家们分析了国家青少年健康纵向研究的研究结果,这项研究是一个历时15年的课题,它记录了数千名在美国20世纪90年代中期上中学的一组青少年的财产情况。

The important thing is that you have to have a memory representation in your brain of the problem you want to solve and then you sleep, so it can act on the problem. But Born admitted that he and his team don’t know how restructuring of memories occurs or what governs it34. Pierre Maquet and Perrine Ruby of the University of Liege in Belgium said the experimental evidence supports the anecdotal suggestions that sleep can help develop creative thinking.Although the role of sleep in human creativity will still be a mystery, the research gives people good reason to fully respect their periods of sleep, they added.35. In most nations, for example, weather-balloon observations are taken just once every twelve hours at places separated by hundreds of miles, and with such limited data, traditional forecasting models do a much better job predicting general weather conditions over large areas than they do forecasting specific local events.50. Meteorologists(气象学者)and computer scientists now work together to design computer programs and video equipment able to change weather data into words and graphic displays(图解)that forecasters can understand easily and quickly, and as meteorologists have begun using these new technologies in weather forecasting offices, nowcasting is becoming a reality.51.Climate change connected with the reduction of wetlands at the source of the country’s two longest rivers, the Y angtze and the Y ellow, has reduced the volume of water flowing into them, scientists said.52.Proponents of the ―nurture‖ theory, or, as they are often called, behaviorists, claimed that our environment is more important than our biologically based instincts in determining how we will act53.A behaviorist, B.F.Skinner, sees humans as beings whose behavior is almost completely shaped by their surroundings while the behaviorists’ view of the human being is quite mechanistic; they maintain that, like machines, humans’ respond to environmental stimul i as the basis of their behavior.54.
