We followed them at a distance of more like 60 feet away—what I thought was enough.I later found out that it’s recommended to keep 300 feet away.Suddenly,we were being attacked.A tight package of fish, known as whales’ food, started jumping o ut of the water into our kayak.Their actions meant they were escaping the whales, which meantthat we needed to get out of there too.But before we could paddle to safety, our kayak was lifted out of the water about siassive jaws.We slipped out of the kayak i nto the whale’s mouth. My body was swallowed.Liz,meanwhile, was looking up directly at the whale’s upper jaw, which she later described as a big white wall.As the whale’s mouth closed,Liz forced her arm up to block it from crushing her.I felt the creature begin to dive and had no idea how deep we’d be dragged.Still,I didn’t panic.I just kept thinking.I’ve got to fight this.I’ve got to breathe.Whales have enormous mouths but tiny throats.Anything they can’t swallow would be spat right out. That included us.As soon as the whale dipped underwater,it ejected us,and we popped back up onto the surface about a foot apart. The entire near-death experience lasted only about 10 seconds. We were shaken up by the experience.Liz said her whale-watching days were over. But I h ad to laugh when I realized I’d brought back souvenirs. When I pulled off my shirt, six silverfish dropped out.4.What happened unexpectedly during the whale sighting?A.The whales jumped out of water.B.The fish ran away from the whales.C.The fish drew whales to the kayak.D.The kayak kept too close to the whales.5.What does the underlined word “ejected” mean in paragraph 4?A.Captured.B.Abandoned.C.Crushed.D.Dragged.6.What helped the author survive?A.Her wisdom and bravery.B.Her care and coincidence.C.Her determination and confidence.D.Her calmness and good luck.7.What’s the tone of the author in the last paragraph?A.Eorous. school band teacher who feels unsatisfied because his dream is to be a full-time jazz musician.Onthe day he finished the biggest concert of his career,Joe nearly dies—but then gets the chance to return to his body if he can find out the purpose of his life.Pete Docter, who co-wrote and co-directed the film with Kemp Powers, said the film was inspired by the emotional disorder he experienced after writing and directing InsideOut(《头脑特工队》).“Having so much success in InsideOut,I found myself wondering:Why didn’t it bring me a sense of satisfaction? Why couldn’t the success fiy life?” Director Pete Docter said.Soul created success of its own.The film won the Golden Globe Award for best animated film, and is named for three Academy Awards. But Kemp Powers, who’s also up for an Oscar for his film for OneNightinMiami, said Soul is actually meant to challenge traditional ideas of success and failure.“We were trying to help not just Joe,but the whole audience, understand that it’s not about winners or losers and that everyone’s life has value,” Powers said.“That was really a powerful driving force from the very beginning.”Docter said the film’s message is that life has m eaning that goes beyond personal ambition.“The movie’s aim is really to say that we’re already enough,” he said.“We all can walk out of the door and enjoy life without needing to achieve or prove anything. And that’s really freeing.”8.In what way is Soul different from many other animated films?A.It is based on imagination rather than reality.B.It is the only Oscar-nominated animated film.C.It is about a man who dreams to be a musician.D.Its topics are not usually found in animated films.9.Why did Pete Docter make the film Soul?A.Because he wanted to create another award-winning film.B.Because he noticed brochure.D.A science textbook.D(江西九江高一期末)A recent trend in the entertainment world is to adapt classic works of literature for either TV plays or the movies. One argument is that this is to everyone’s benefit,as it introduces people to works they might otherwise never have experienced, while others say that turning books into TV plays or movies not only cheapens the original, but is rarely done successfully. So what do you think? In the past few years,we have seen that several classic works of literature have been adapted for movies. Many people believe that turning a novel into a film is a great idea, but some obviously think otherwise.According to the latter, translating classic works into movies destroys its originality and credibility. In myopinion, literary works can get translated into the screens effectively. The main challenge that filmmakers face while turning a classic work into a movie is its imaginary world.Generally, the perception(见解) of a book’s imaginary world differs from person to person. And it’s qui te challenging to put all these different perceptions in one frame. But modern technology has made this challenge achievable. For emakers used visual effects to successfully adapt HarryPotter movies so visually appealing that their perceptions of HarryPotter changed. Therefore, literary works can be translated into films through technical means. Also, while making a film, the main focus of makers always remains on the main plotline and characters. But for movies based on literary works, this issue is not there as these movies carry the same basic plotline as it is present in thebooks. Therefore, directors do not have to spend much time and imagination on the plot of the movie, which makes the adaptation quite easy.Based on the above arguments,I believe that it is quite possible to make a beautiful movie based on a classic work using modern technologies and a writer’s imagination.12.What does “the latter” in the second paragraph refer to?A.People who agree with adapting classic works of literature for screens.B.People who often enjoy reading classic works of literature.C.People who think it’s not a good idea to adapt classic works for screens.D.People who can translated literary works into the screens.13.What is the main difficulty when adapting classics for screens according to the author?A.Adapting literary works for films effectively.B.Presenting the imaginary of classics works on screens.C.The different perceptions of the book’s imaginary world.D.The use of modern technology in adapting classic works.14.Why does the author mention the adaption of HarryPotter?A.To prove that adapting literary works for screens can be difficult.B.To describe the successful use of modern technology in making films.C.To confirm adapting classic works for screens is really important.D.To present an example to prove that classic works are out of date.15.What is the author’s attitude towards adapting classics?A.Critical.B.Objective.C.Indifferent.D.Supportive.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Unit 2Onwards and upwards背景导学Four Things To Do When Feeling Like Giving Up在生活中,在工作上,不管你是多么成功,成功都不会赋予你免受生活带来的苦难的能力。
不管是在工作上还是感情上,当我们感觉我们生活的目的不明确,想要放弃的时候会怎样呢?Go Back To “Why”As Simon Sinek says, it starts with “why”. Sometimes, we start with one vision in mind and end up moving so far away from why we started a business, job or relationship in the first place that we end up lost and questioning our decisions and actions. Maybe you can't remember the last time you were happy. Perhaps your big colorful picture of where you wanted to head has slowly turned to black and white. Get back that clarity! Every 90 days revisit your big “why” to ensure you're on track an d achieving what you want.Learn To Feel UncomfortableLife is not easy nor is it meant to be. We are always facing hurdles and obstacles that we must overcome, which is all part of the journey. If you can accept that things will get tough and it won't always be sweet-smelling roses and docile kittens, you'll get yourself better prepared for what's to come. When you feel stuck in a rut you must learn to breathe, reset and revisit your goals. What is it that you're going for in business and in life? A simple readjustment and a brief “time out” can dramatically move you forward like you never thought possible.Win Through PersistenceWinston Churchill said, “If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time—a great hit.” Persistence is the key if you want to win. I've felt like giving up many times during my entrepreneurial journey and the persistence tomake things happen has kept me going. Understanding and truly believing that persistence delivers results will keep you moving forward.Acknowledge ChallengesOh yes, there will be tough times—but you already know this. When you feel like giving up because it's too tough, it's not a surprise as you knew the journey wouldn't be full of rainbows and bunnies. Acknowledge the challenge, embrace it, learn what you can and power on!【译文】想要放弃时,要做的四件事回过头来问自己“为什么”就像西蒙·斯涅克所说,得先找找“为什么”。

The dream of many people is to leave their mark on the world however they can. This could be in countless different ways, from coming up with a new invention to simply starting a family. No matter what it is, changing the world in some way is the purpose of many lives. That's what makes the Renaissance—an art period which centered in Italy between the 14th and 17th centuries—the era of world-markers.When we hear the word “art”, it's very likely that we'll imagine a work from the Renaissance period. This was a time when many people believe art made a revival—“renaissance”, after all, means to bring new life to something.Take the works of Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci for example. His painting Mona Lisa became one of the best-known artworks on Earth. While many artists left their marks by bringing beauty to the world, Da Vinci did much more than that. The artist was fascinated by the study of human anatomy and even spent time dissecting human bodies to help with his studies. Da Vinci also proved his greatness in many other areas, and he created sketches of ideas for many inventions, from bridges and machinery to even a helicopter and a robot. The Renaissance also played host to many other great names in the world of art. Italian painter Raphael, for example, was another leader of this era. But his most famous work isn't hanging on a wall today. Instead, his masterpiece—the Raphael Rooms of Italy's Palace of the Vatican—is on the wall. The walls and ceilings of the palace are filled with beautifully detailed paintings of Bible scenes, which he started as a young artist in 1508.【译文】许多人的梦想是尽他们所能在世界上留下他们的印记。
