a r X i v :0712.2233v 1 [h e p -e x ] 13 D e c 2007Frascati Physics Series Vol.XL VI (2007),pp.000-000HADRON07:XII Int.Conf.on Hadron Spectroscopy –Frascati,October 8-13,2007Parallel Session Charmonium spectroscopy at B A B A R Arafat Gabareen Mokhtar Dept.of Physics Colorado State University Fort Collins,CO 80523USA for the B A B A R Collaboration Abstract The charmonium-like states,Y (4260),Y (4350),produced via initial state radiation,as well as the X (3872),and Y (3940),produced in B meson decays from the B A B A R B-factory are reviewed. These mesons do not seem consistent with conventional charmonium models, and several alternate hypotheses have been proposed to explain these new discoveries.1IntroductionSeveral charmonium-like states have been discovered recently at the BELLE and B A B A R B -factories.These new states have been observed in e +e −ini-tial state radiation (ISR)interactions or in B -decays.The relevant Feynman diagrams representing ISR production and B -decay are shown in Fig.1.In ISR events,a real photon is emitted from the incoming electron or positronand subsequently the electron and positron annihilate to yield a virtual photon (γ⋆)which couples to a c¯c system with c.m.energy lower than the nominal value, and thus charmonia can be produced.In¯B-decay,a W−from the b-quark yields an s¯c system;the¯c combines with the c quark from b decay to produce a charmonium state, while the s quark and¯q spectator yield a strange meson.Figure1:Feynman diagrams representing charmonium production via a)ISR, b)¯B decay. The discovery of the charmonium-like state X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−was re-ported by the BELLE collaboration1),and confirmed by the CDF2),D03), and B A B A R4)experiments.Since then several charmonium-like states have been discovered at the B-factories,however they do not seem consistent with conventional charmonium spectroscopy.Alternative explanations for these states have been proposed, such as molecules,4-quark states, hybrids, etc. In this report,we review briefly the latest results from the B A B A R ex-periment concerning four of these charmonium-like states.2The Y(4260)The Y(4260)→J/ψπ+π−was discovered by B A B A R in the ISR reaction e+e−→γISR J/ψπ+π−5)using233fb−1of data, where detection of the ISR photon was not required. The J/ψπ+π−mass distribution is shown in Fig.2,where in the sub-figure a broader mass region shows the peak due toψ(2S )→J/ψπ+π−;an enhancement is observed at ∼4.26GeV/c 2.The mass region 3.8<m J/ψπ+π−<5GeV/c 2is fitted with a Breit-Wigner signal func-tion and a second order polynomial background. The background from J/ψside-band does not show any peaking structure. The number of signal eventsextracted from the fit is 125±23,the mass is M Y =4259±8+2−6MeV/c 2,and the width is ΓY =88±23+6−4MeV.The branching fraction obtained isΓY,ee ∗BF (Y (4260)→J/ψπ+π−)=5.5±1.0+0.8−0.7eV.At B A B AR ,no evidence was found for the processes Y (4260)→φπ+π−6),Y (4260)→D ¯D7),and Y (4260)→p ¯p 8).A search for the Y (4260)resonance in B decay was carried out,and a 3σeffect was observed 9).Figure 2:The J/ψπ+π−invariant mass distribution in the range 3.8−5.0GeV/c 2.The dots represent the data, the filled histogram shows the background from the J/ψside-bands,the solid curve represents the fit result and the dashed line shows the background.3The Y (4350)In B A B A R ,a search for Y (4260)→ψ(2S )π+π−yielded instead evidence for a broad structure near ∼4.3GeV/c 210).This enhancement is not consistentwith the Y (4260)state.InFig.3,the 2(π+π−)J/ψinvariant mass is shown for the data (dots)and for the background (shaded histogram). The data points are fitted with a Breit-Wigner signal function with fixed mass and width 5)(dashed line),and again with mass and width as free parameters. The latter fit yields mass m =4324±23MeV/c 2,and width Γ=172±33MeV (statistical errors only). The Y (4350)was confirmed by BELLE 11).Figure 3:The 2(π+π−)J/ψinvariant mass spectrum. The dots indicate the data and the shaded histogram represents the background. The solid curve shows the fit result with free mass and width parameters, while the dashed curve is obtained with the mass and width fixed to their Y (4260)values 5).4The X (3872)The X (3872)discovered by BELLE 1)was the first of the new charmonium-like ter CDF 2),D03),and B A B A R 4)confirmed the BELLE observation. In B A B A R ,a data sample of 211fb −1was analyzed to obtain the J/ψπ+π−invariant mass in the region 3.8−3.95GeV/c 2separately for charged and neutral B -candidates as shown in Fig.4.The dots represent the data and the shaded histograms represent background. For charged B decay (Fig.4(a)),a clear enhancement is observed for m J/ψπ+π−∼3870GeV/c 2.Statistically consistent behavior is observed for the neutral mode (Fig.4(b)).The X (3872)invariant mass obtained from the charged (neutral)B -mode is m =3871.3±0.6±0.1(3868.6±1.2±0.2)MeV/c 2,and the corresponding branching fraction values are BF (B −→X (J/ψπ+π−)K −)=(10.1±2.5±1.0)×10−5and B (B 0→X (J/ψπ+π−)K 0)=(5.1±2.8±0.7)×10−5at 90%C.L.Figure 4:The J/ψπ+π−invariant mass distributions for charged (a)and neu-tral (b)B decay from B A B A R .The dots represent the data, while the shaded histograms represent side-band background. The solid curves show the fit re-sults,the dashed lines show combinatorial background, and the dotted lines represent the sum of combinatorial and peaking background contributions. In B A B A R ,no evidence for a charged partner of the X (3872)was found 12),and so it is assumed that the X (3872)has I =0.Also B A B A R 13)has con-firmed the BELLE observation 14)of X (3872)→J/ψγ.In Fig.5we show the J/ψγmass distribution obtained from B A B A R ,and a clear enhancement is ob-served at the X (3872)mass.It follows that the X (3872)has positive C -parity.Later both BELLE 15)and B A B A R 16)have found evidence for the decaymode X (3872)→¯D⋆0D 0.In Fig.6,we show the ¯D ⋆0D 0invariant mass as reported by B A B A R .A clear enhancement near threshold is observed.Themeasured mass values from BELLE and B A B A R are 3875.2±0.7+0.9−1.8MeV/c2and 3875.1+0.9−0.7±0.5MeV/c 2,respectively.The difference between the massFigure5:The number of extracted signal events versus m c¯c for the X(3872) mass region. The solid curve represents thefit result.value obtained in the¯D⋆0D0decay mode and that from PDG17)is then3.8+1.2−2.0 MeV/c2from BELLE and3.7+1.1MeV/c2from B A B A R,indicating that the−0.9effect is real. This mass difference has received a lot of attention, although a simple explanation involving one unit of orbital angular momentum(and hence J P=2−)has been proposed recently18).5The Y(3940)The Y(3940)wasfirst observed by the BELLE collaboration19)in the decay process B→J/ψωK using253fb−1of data. The mass and width obtained for this resonance were m=3943±11±13MeV/c2andΓ=87±22±26MeV. In B A B A R a data sample of348fb−1is used to search for the Y(3940)20). Charged and the neutral B-decays are analyzed separately, and in the B A B A R analysisfiner mass binning was used on the basis of mass resolution studies. Signal events were corrected for acceptance and mass resolution effects.A significant enhancement is observed near threshold in the charged mode, and a statistically-limited,but consistent, signal is obtained in the neutral mode.Figure6:The¯D⋆0D0invariant mass, where the solid curve shows thefit result and the dashed curves represent the signal and background contributions. In Fig.7we show the acceptance-corrected J/ψωmass distributions for the charged(Fig.7(a))and neutral(Fig.7(b))B decay modes, respectively. The data points arefitted with a Breit-Wigner signal function and a single Gaussian function for the non-resonant contribution.Goodfits to the data are obtained, as shown by the solid curves. The mass and width of the Y(3940)are found tobe m=3914.6+3.8−3.4(stat)+1.9−1.9(syst)MeV/c2andΓ=33+12−8(stat)+5−5(syst)MeV,respectively,with branching fractions for the charged and the neutral decaymodes BF(B+→Y K+)=(4.9+1.0−1.0(stat)+0.5−0.5(syst))×10−5,and BF(B0→Y K0)=(1.5+1.4−1.2(stat)+0.2−0.2(syst))×10−5;the latter has corresponding upperlimit(95%C.L.)3.9×10−5.6AcknowledgmentsThe B A B A R Collaboration acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of the PEPII collider group for providing the excellent luminosity.I should like to thank the Hadron07conference organizers for a nice meeting at Frascati, and also Bill Dunwoodie and Walter Toki for useful comments.Figure7:The acceptance-corrected J/ψωmass distribution for(a)B+and(b) B0decay.The solid curves represent thefit results.References1.S.-K.Choi et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.91,262001(2003)2.D.Acosta et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.93,072001(2004)3.V.M.Abazov et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.93,162002(2004)4.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D71,071103(2005)5.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.95,142001(2005)6.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D74,091103(R)(2006)7.B.Aubert et al.,arXiv:0710.1371[hep-ex],(2007)8.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D73,012005(2006)9.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D73,011101(2006)10.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.98,212001(2007)11.X.L.Wang et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.99,142002(2007)12.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D71,031501(2005)13.B.Aubert et al.,Phys.Rev.D74,071101(2006)14.K.Abe et al.,arXiv:0505037[hep-ex],(2005)15.G.Gokhroo et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.97,162002(2006)16.B.Aubert et al.,arXiv:0708.1565[hep-ex],(2007)17.W.-M.Yao et al.,J.Phys.G33,1(2006)18.W.Dunwoodie and V.Ziegler,arXiv:0710.5191[hep-ex],(2007)19.S.-K.Choi et al.,Phys.Rev.Lett.94,182002(2005)20.B.Aubert et al.,arXiv:0711.2047[hep-ex],(2007)。

Chinese Physics C(HEP&NP)Vol.32,No.6,Jun.,2008 Study of charmonium(-like)states via ISR at Belle*YUAN Chang-Zheng( )1)(for the Belle Collaboration)(Institute of High Energy Physics,CAS,Beijing100049,China)Abstract The cross sections for e+e−→π+π−J/ψ,π+π−ψ(2S),K+K−J/ψ,D D+c.c., and D∗s= 4.26GeV and investigated16decay modes withcharmonium or light hadrons[6].The large e+e−→π+π−J/ψcross section at this energy is confirmed.Inaddition,there is also evidence for K+K−J/ψ(3.7σ)based on three events observed.Belle also measured the process e+e−→K+K−J/ψvia ISR and resonance-like structure was observed[7].The total cross section for hadron production in e+e−annihilation in the energy region above the open-charm threshold was measured by the Crystal Ball[8]and BES[9]Collaborations.However,the pa-rameters of the vector charmonium states obtained fromfits to the inclusive cross section[10,11]are poorly understood theoretically[12].Since interference be-tween different resonances depends on the specific final states,studies of exclusive cross sections for charmed meson pairs in this energy range are needed to clarify the situation.Recently,CLEO-c performed a scan over√D,D D∗fi-nal states at twelve points[14].A measurement of e+e−→DD[16],D D∗[17],and Ds=10.58GeV),and the rest were taken at a center-of-mass energy that is60MeV below theΥ(4S)peak.No.6YUAN Chang-Zheng et al Study of charmonium(-like)states via ISR at Belle453parameters solution I solution IIM(Y(4360))4361±9±9Γtot(Y(4360))74±15±10(Y(4360))10.4±1.7±1.511.8±1.8±1.4B·Γe+e−M(Y(4660))4664±11±5Γtot(Y(4660))48±15±3(Y(4660))3.0±0.9±0.37.6±1.8±0.8B·Γe+e−φ[Y(4360)and Y(4660)]39±30±22−79±17±20D,D D∗,and D∗DγISR signal events are selectedby reconstructing both the D andD=D0D system.To suppress background frome+e−→DD reconstruction.We select e+e−→D0D−π+γISR signal candidatesin which the D0,D−andπ+mesons are fully recon-structed and theγISR is not required to be detectedas for DD(n)πγISR(n>1)processes.454Chinese Physics C(HEP&NP)Vol.32D(a),D0D−π++c.c.(b),D∗+D∗−(c),and D+D∗−+c.c.(d)crosssections.The resulting cross sections of e+e−to the above modes are shown in Fig.3.We can see the structures at theψ(4040)andψ(4415)in DD∗−cross section is complicated with several local maxima and minima, especially large cross section near theψ(4040)and ψ(4160),while in DD, D D∗,and D∗References1Aubert B et al(BaBar Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2005,95:1420012HE Q et al(CLEO Collaboration).Phys.Rev.D,2006,74: 091104(R)3YUAN C Z et al(Belle Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2007,99:1820044Aubert B et al(BaBar Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2007,98:2120015W ANG X L et al(Belle Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2007,99:1420026Coan T E et al(CLEO Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2006,96:1620037YUAN C Z et al(Belle Collaboration).Phys.Rev.D,2008, 77:011105(R)8Osterfeld A et al(Crystal Ball Collaboration).Report No.SLAC-PUB-4160,1986,unpublished9BAI J Z et al(BES Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett.,2002, 88:10180210Seth K K.Phys.Rev.D,2005,72:01750111Ablikim M et al(BES Collaboration).arXiv:0705.4500 [hep-ex]12Barnes T,Godfrey S,Swanson E S.Phys.Rev.D,2005, 72:05402613Charge-conjugate modes are included throughout this re-port14Poling R(for CLEO Collaboration).arXiv:0606016[hep-ex]15Aubert B et al(BaBar Collaboration).arXiv:0607083[hep-ex]16Pakhlova G et al(Belle Collaboration).Phys.Rev.D,2007, 77:011103(R)17Pakhlova G et al(Belle Collaboration).Phys.Rev.Lett., 2007,98:09200118Pakhlova G et al(Belle Collaboration).arXiv:0708.3313 [hep-ex],Phys.Rev.Lett.(in press)19Abashian A et al(Belle Collaboration).Nucl.Instr.and Methods in Phys.Res.Sect.A,2002,479:11720Kurokawa S,Kikutani E.Nucl.Instrum.Methods in Phys.Res.Sect.A,2003,499:1,and other papers included in this volume21Eichten E et al.Phys.Rev.D,1980,21:20322Olsen S L.arXiv:0801.1153[hep-ex]23For a recent review,see for example,Swanson E S.Phys.Rept.,2006,429:243;Klempt E,Zaitsev A.Phys.Rept., 2007,454:1。

魅力的本质(The Essence of Charm)charm is the ultimate weapon, the supreme seduction, against which there are few defenses. if you've got it, you need neither money, looks, nor pedigree. it's a gift, given only to give away, and the more used, the more there is. it is also a climate of behavior set for perpetual summer and thermostatically controlled by taste and tact.true charm is an aura, an invisible musk in the air; if you see it working, the spell is broken. charm is dynamic, and cannot be turned on and off at will. as to its ingredients, there is no fixed formula. a whole range of mysteries goes into the caldron, but the magic it offers must be absolute-one cannot be "almost" or "partly" charmed.in a woman, charm is probably more exacting than in a man, requiring a wider array of subtleties. it is a light in the face, an air of exclusive welcome, an almost impossibly sustained note of satisfaction in one's company, and regret without fuss at parting. a woman with charm finds no man dull; indeed, in her presence he becomes not just a different person but the person he most wants to be. such a woman gives life to his deep-held fantasies by adding the necessary conviction to his long suspicion that he is king.of those women who have most successfully charmed me i remember chiefly their voices and eyes. their voices were intimate and enveloping. the listening eyes, supreme charm in a woman, betrayed no concern with any other world than this, warmly wrapping one round with total attention and turning one's lightest words to gold. theirs was a charm that must have continued to exist, like the flower in the desert, even when there was nobody there to see it.a woman's charm spreads round herthat particular glow of well-being for which any man will want to seek her out and, by making full use of her nature, celebrates the fact of his maleness and so gives him an extra shot of life. her charm lies also in that air of timeless maternalism, that calm and pacifying presence, which can dispel a man's moments of frustration and anger and restore his failures of will.charm in a man, i suppose, is his ability to capture the complicity of a woman by a single-minded acknowledgment of her uniqueness. here again it is a question of being totally absorbed, of really forgetting that anyone else exists, for nothing more fatally betrays than the suggestion of a wandering eye. silent devotion is fine, but seldom sufficient; it is what a man says that counts, the bold declarations, the flights of fancy, the uncovering of secret virtues. a man is charmed through his eyes, a woman by what she hears, so no man need to be too anxious about his age: as wizened voltaire once said: "give me a few minutes to talk away my face and i can seduce the queen of france."but charm isn't exclusively sexual; it comes in a variety of cooler flavors. most children have it--till they are told they have it--and so do old people with nothing to lose; animals, too, of course. with children and smaller animals, it is often in the shape of the head and in the chaste unaccusing stare; with young girls and ponies, a certain stumbling awkwardness, a leggy inability to control their bodies. but all these are passive and appeal by capturing one's protective instincts.you know who has charm. but can you acquire it? properly, you can't, because it's an originality of touch you have to be born with. or it's something that grows naturally out of another quality, like the simple desire to make people happy. certainly, charm is not a question of learning palpable tricks, like wrinkling your nose,or having a laugh in your voice. on the other hand, there is an antenna, a built-in awareness of others, which most people have, and which care can nourish.but in a study of charm, what else does one look for? apart from the ability to listen--rarest of all human virtues--apart from warmth, sensitivity, and the power to please, there is a generosity which makes no demands. charm spends itself willingly on young and old alike, on the poor, the ugly, the dim, the boring, on the last fat man in the corner. it reveals itself also in a sense of ease, in casual but perfect manners, and often in a physical grace which springs less from an accident of youth than from a confident serenity of mind. any person with this is more than just a popular fellow; he is also a social healer.charm, in the end, is a most potent act of behavior, the laying down of a carpet by one person for another to give his existence a moment of honor. it is close to love in that it moves without force, bearing gifts like the growth of daylight. it snares completely, but is never punitive. it disarms by being itself disarmed, strikes without wounds, wins wars without casualties--though not, of course, without victims.in the armory of man, charm is the enchanted dart, light and subtle as a hummingbird. but it is deceptive in one thing--like a sense of humor, if you think you've got it, you probably haven't.。

Abstract
The cross sections for e +e −→π+π−J/ψ,π+π−ψ(2S ),K +K −J/ψ,D D +c.c.,and D ∗
s =4.26GeV and investigated 16decay modes with charmonium or light hadrons [6].The large e +e −→π+π−J/ψcross section at this energy is confirmed. In addition, there is also evidence for K +K −J/ψ(3.7σ)based on three events observed.Belle also measured the process e +e −→K +K −J/ψvia ISR and resonance-like structure was observed [7].The total cross section for hadron production in e +e −annihilation in the energy region above the open-charm threshold was measured by the Crystal Ball [8]and BES [9]Collaborations.However,the parameters of the vector charmonium states obtained from fits to the inclusive cross section [10,11]are poorly understood
theoretically [12].Since interference between different resonances depends on the specific final states, studies of exclusive cross sections for charmed meson pairs in this energy range are needed to clarify the situation.Recently,CLEO-c performed a scan over
√D ,D D ∗final states at twelve points [14].A measurement of e +e −→D

and D s =10.58GeV),and the rest were taken at a
center-of-mass energy that is 60MeV below the Υ(4S )peak.
D,D D∗,and D∗
DγISR signal events are selected by reconstructing both the D and D= D0
D system.To suppress background from e+e−→D
D reconstruction.
We select e+e−→D0D−π+γISR signal candidates in which the D0,D−andπ+mesons are fully re-constructed and theγISR is not required to be detected as for D
D(n)πγISR(n>1)processes.
The selection of e+e−→D(∗)+D∗−γISR signal events using full reconstruction of both the D∗+and D∗−mesons, suffers from low efficiency due to the low D(∗)reconstruction efficiencies and small branching fractions. Higher efficiency is achieved by requiring full reconstruction of only one of the D∗mesons, theγISR,and the slowπslow from the other D∗.
The analysis of the e+e−→D+D∗−is identical to that described above for e+e−→D+D−with the fully reconstructed D∗+meson replaced by a fully reconstructed D+meson. The requirement of a detected slow
provides the clean e+e−→D+D∗−signal pion from the unreconstructed D∗−and a tight requirement on∆Mfit
rec
peak in the distribution of M rec(D+γISR).
The resulting cross sections of e+e−to the above modes are shown in Fig.3.We can see the structures at theψ(4040)andψ(4415)in D
D∗−cross section is complicated with several local maxima and minima, especially large cross section near theψ(4040)andψ(4160),while in D
