Writing Samples for Mock TestsWriting for Test 1Develop Students’ Creative MindDue to long-term passive education, quite a few college students are lack of creativity. A characteristic of such pattern is that obeying teachers’instructions is encouraged and rewarded while cherishing one’s own different ideas is thought to be naive and depressed. The importance of college students’ creativity cannot be overstated. Creativity is a source of inspiration. Without it, it is almost impossible for us to see so many innovations shown in the World Expo Shanghai. Creativity is also a problem-solving method. What would have happened if Deng Xiaoping had never proposed the economic reform? The poor economic condition of our country might have persisted for some time, robbing families of their chance at prosperity and happiness. Therefore creativity always has its priority. How to cultivate students’ creativity? One way we should take into account is that schools should build a better environment to encourage innovative spirit. Another way to be considered is that parents should be tolerant to the way their kids think and do. The best way to encourage creativity depends on students themselves since it is not the way others think but the mentality they hold that counts.Writing for Unit 2To Consume within or beyond Our MeansTo consume within or beyond our means is one of the controversial issues of our times. Although some people firmly believe the more one consumes the more one enjoys his life, in this essay I will argue it is vital for us to consume in a rational way.Overconsumption or to consume beyond one’s resources is not only an environmental problem, threatening to exhaust our natural resources or unalterably spoil our environment, but a financial one as well. A typical example is the current global financial turmoil ignited by the overconsumption of Americans. On the contrary, the rational consumption or to consume within one’s financial resources seems to be a shield against the crisis since prevention is always better than cure and people are ready for the rainy days.Of course it is necessary for us to strike the balance between the level of consumption and the satisfaction of human beings but the reality tells us that consuming within one’s financial capacity outweighs consuming beyond one’s resources.Writing for Unit 3Two Sides of Multi-media TeachingToday multi-media teaching is no longer something new to us. In fact, it has become part of modern education. Statistics shows nearly all the colleges or universities use this facility in their teaching. However, as is the case with many issues, this type of teaching has both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, with the combination of word, pictures, animation, sound, video and etc. multi-media teaching creates positive atmosphere in the classroom, thus motivating the learners. Another underlying advantage is that multi-media teaching with its rich contents makes learning both instructive and enjoyable. .On the negative side, multi-media teaching lacks classroom interaction between the teacher and learners, which may have a bad effect on improving teaching efficiency. Besides, it takes a considerable amount of time to produce the teaching courseware on the part of teachers, thus drastically multiplying teachers’ working load. There is no denying that multi-media teaching has both benefits and drawbacks but on balance the advantages of multi-media teaching outweigh its disadvantages since such a teaching approach has become an integral part of modern education.Example of chart/ table writingPart 1: referencePart 2: reasons for findingsPart 3 suggestion, prediction or conclusion199019952000The chart shows a rapid increase in the average number of hours a student spend on a computer per week in a university between 1990 and 2000. In 1990, a student spent only about 2 hours a week on a computer while in 1995 this figure doubled with 4 hours. By 2000, however, the average number of hours spent by a student surged/ soared to 20 hours.Several factors contribute to/ can account for this significant change. One major factor is the wide use of computer. In many areas, for example, a computer can assist people to work, such as CAD (computer aided design), CAT (computer aided translation) and etc. The fact that the gradual decrease in its price enables more people to afford it can be another factor. One more factor to this change is that the quick development of our society needs people with computer knowledge. Today a person, with no computer awareness, will find it hard to have a good job.Despite the great change, some students still feel that they do not have enough time to use the computer. Others, however, spent many hours on computer games, thus wasting a lot of their precious time. These two problems should be tackled properly.。
