Do not adjustwhile driving. The Continuously Variable Transaxle is a fully automatic transmissionthat electronically monitors vehicle system inputs/outputs and driverdemands to select the desired drive ratio. Unlike traditional automatictransmissions, the CVT continually adjusts the optimum overall driveratio between engine and drive wheels for all operating conditions. As traditional automatic transmissions shift up or down in gears, theshifting in gear ratios are noticeable by increasing and decreasingengine RPM which causes a slight energy loss as the gears change. These gear changes can be felt by the driver. With the CVT, there is no energy transfer loss from shifting because there is no gear shifting up or down. Acceleration up to vehicle operating speed is smooth and continuous, uninterrupted by gear shifting. The same holds true for coasting down to idle, smooth and continuous.Unlike traditional automatic transmissions, the CVT offers more responsive performance and increased fuel economy. The use of fluids other than the recommended fluid could seriously damage internal transmission components. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide.2005 Mercury Montego |Instrument Cluster A ED B Ca|In an emergency, apply continuous force to the brake pedal. Do not pump the brakes. Any pulsation or mechanical noise you may feel or hear is normal. If the light doesn’t illuminate or stays on, have your vehicle serviced. Normal braking is still functional unless the brake warning light is also illuminated.b|The speed control lamp will Illuminate when the speed control is engaged. It will turn off when the speed control system is disengaged. The controls for the speed control are located on the steering wheel. Press and release the ON and OFF buttons to engage and disengage the system. Speed control does not work at speeds below 30 mph (48 km/h). For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide.c|The Check Engine indicator lamp illuminates when the ignition is first turned to the ON position to check the bulb. If the light turns solid or blinks, the On Board Diagnostics System has detected a malfunction. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration or deceleration) and have your vehicle serviced immediately.d|To confirm the brake system warning light is functional, it will momentarily illuminate when the ignition is turned to the ON position when the engine is not running, or in a position between ON and START, or by applying the parking brake when the ignition is turned to the ON position. If the brake system warning light does not illuminate at this time, seek service immediately from your dealership. Illumination after releasing the parking brake indicates low brake fluid level and the brake system should be inspected immediately by your servicing dealership.e|With the ignition in the ON position, the message center displays important vehicle information by constantly monitoring vehicle systems. You may select display features on the message center for a display of status. The system will also notify you of potential vehicle problems with a display of system warnings. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. The Throttle Control/Transmission lamp illuminates when a powertrain fault has been detected. Contact your dealer as soon as possible. The Engine Coolant lamp illuminates when the engine coolant is low. Stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible and let the engine cool.Ford Motor CompanyCustomer Relationship CenterP.O. The jack, spare tire, jack handle and lug nut wrench are under the cargo cover in the trunk of the vehicle. If your electrical components aren’t working properly, a fuse may have blown. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. This device stops the electric fuel pump from sending fuel to the engine when your vehicle has had a substantial jolt. After an accident, if the engine cranks but does not start, this switch may have been activated. The fuel pump shut-off switch is located in the front passenger footwell area in the right upper corner. For optimum performance use “Regular” unleaded fuel with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of at least 87. We do not recommend the use of gasolines labeled as “Regular” with octane ratings of 86 or lower that are sold in high altitude areas.Safe operation of your Montego requires that your tires be properly inflated. The Mercury recommended inflation pressure is found on the Tire Label or the Certification Label located near the front door latch on the driver’s side. At least once a month and before long trips, inspect each tire and check the air pressure with a tire gauge. Don’t forget the spare. Air pressure should be checked when the tires are cold. Inflate all tires to the inflation pressure recommended by Ford Motor Company. In addition to your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Mercury provides new vehicle owners with a complimentary roadside assistance program. The carbon fiber composites making up the frame are held together by some extremely strong bonding chemicals. However, these bonds can be attacked or weakened bypaint stripping or refinishing chemicals.figure 2.Serial Numberthe serial number (1) printed and permanently affixed barcode label.Use this serial number for warranty registration and theft recovery. see your Cannondale Bicycle Owner’s Manual for more information on warranty registration.Bottom Bracket Guidethe cable guide (2) is mounted on the bottom bracket. replacements are available through a Cannondale Dealer. the kit # is Kf363/VentKeep the small vent hole (3) in the bottom of the bottom bracket shell clear of any dirt so that any water can drain out.Water can enter into frame tubes through washing, condensation, wet rides, or rain. it penetrates or can be sprayed in through water bottle bosses, seat tube, head tube and seat post openings. Water will not chemically harm your bike. if it freezes, the ice expansion can burst or crack the frame making it unsafe to ride. this damage is not covered under your warranty. After wet rides, remove seat post, invert bike to drain any water.6120858.PDF7headset48m mKP017/QC778/35mmQC777/KP044/figure 3a.Use only original Cannondale parts. see Carbon Road Fork Owner’s ManualSupplement 120860.pdf on our website /tech_center/SAZ 111594The addition of shim(s) between the compression ring and top caps may be needed for top cap to head tube clearance.KP044/ - KIT,HEADSET,SUPERSIXNO STAR NUTSThe addition of shim(s) between the compression ring and top caps may be needed for top cap to headtube clearance.48 mmSI Compression Assembly KP017/ InstructionsThe following procedure should only be completed by a professional bike mechanic.1. assemble the fork, headset, spacers, and stem without tightening the stem bolts onto thehead tube. When the system is assembled, the carbon steerer tube should be 2-3 mm below the top stem. all spacers must be located below the stem and within the maximum stack height as shown. no spacers may be used above the stem.2. set-up the compression assembly before inserting it. adjust the length so that the expanderis located at lower stem bolt. the top cap and the expander end provides critical support to the carbon steerer when tightening the stem bolts. adjust the length by threading the top cap on the expander parts.3. When the assembly is the correct length, insert it into the steerer tube. it is designed to fitsnugly inside the steerer. insert a 5 mm allen key through the access hole in the toP CaP and into the eXPanDer Bolt. tighten the expanding parts by turning clockwise to 6.8nm, 5 ftlbs.4. now, to set bearing preload, insert a 6mm allen key into the hex shape in the toP CaPitself. turn the entire top cap clockwise to increase preload. turning it counter-clockwise will decrease the preload. When the headset preload feels correct, turn the stem to align the handlebar and tighten the stem fork clamp bolts to the torque specified for the stem.Consult the stem manufacturer’s instructions. the torque values for components are often marked on the part.8120858.PDF9seat post / binderfigure 4.Installation1. make sure the seat post, binder, and seat tube are clean. Use a dry towel.2. apply small amount of seat post gel (Cannondale kit Kf115/) to seat post surface and reinstall the post into the seat tube. 4 FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE CARBON SEAT POSTS ALWAYS POSITION THE SEAT BINDER SLOT OPPOSITE THE SEAT TUBE SLOT. locating the binder slot opposite the seat tube slot reduces the chances of cracking from deformation or accidental overtightening.tighten the seat binder with a torque wrench. DO NOT EXCEED MAXIMUM SPECIFIED TORQUE 6.8Nm.5. BRUTE KIT05. Installation of the Brute HardtopInstallation GuidePLEASE READ BEFORE YOU STARTTO GUARANTEE A QUALITY INSTALLATION, WE RECOMMEND READING THESE INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE BEGINNING ANY WORK. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MECHANICAL ABILITY AND ARE NOT WRITTEN OR INTENDED FOR SOMEONE NOT FAMILIAR WITH AUTO BODY REPAIR.Required ToolsDrill Motor1/2” Step Drill Bit 5/16” Drill Bit Sanding Supplies Urethane Glass Installation Tools Wiring ToolsPainting Tools and Supplies Medium ClampsA. FITTING THE TOP TO THE VEHICLEOVERVIEWThe Brute Hardtop comes as an assembled unit with the exterior portion of the top finished in a grey sanding gel coat, while the interior of the top is left in a white natural resin finish. Installing the hardtop is generally a relatively easy task that consists of only a few steps. The hardtop must:•be fit to the vehicle.•be painted.•have the glass installed.•have all the hardware put on.•have the interior lights and CHMSL installed.INSTRUCTIONS1. Once your cab closeout is fully welded out and finished, install the hard doors, door strikerplates and header seal. Begin by temporarily installing the header latches (do not crossthread the bolts nor over tighten them) to the hardtop and test fit the top. At this point, check to be sure the top is sitting down on the J-rails all around the side and back of the top.Temporarily clamp the sides of the top into position. Clamp the header down, not to worry if it makes some cracking noises on this first clamp down, it’s just everything settling in and will do no damage. Check the fit around the doors, windshield frame and the rear of the vehicle. The doors and windshield frame can be adjusted, but do everything in a slow meticulousfashion. Often times the top might look high initially, but tends to settle in once it’s bolted into position and the seals take a set. Once you are satisfied with the fit of the top, mark the bolt hole locations and drill the J-rail in the hardtop out to 1/2”.2. Prior to painting the top you may wish to “dry” fit any accessories you plan to mount to thecenter console like radios, additional lighting, switches, etc.B. PAINTING THE TOPOVERVIEWThe Brute’s hardtop can be painted in a number of ways and the builder has many options.AEV typically recommends using a medium to course spray texture and base coat on theoutside with or without a clearcoat. The inside is typically sprayed with a fine texture andpainted with a base coat only, however some builders have successfully used other methods such as spray in urethane bed liner or carpet like found in many pickup canopies and speaker boxes although the carpet can be a little trickier to trim the edges properly. Common questions regarding the Brute top involve painting; one common question is if the top can be left smooth and painted to match the vehicle’s base coat / clear coat finish. The answer is yes it can be painted smooth to match the vehicle but it can’t simply be scuffed and painted. The painter will need to sand and block so that flow marks from the manufacturing process and wows in the composite surface do not show through. This type of finish is often best left for professional body shops that specialize in painting composite components. Another common question is if one can paint the Brute top black on a colored vehicle like the factory does. Of course it can be painted black, however it is generally concurred that it doesn’t look very good because it is distracting to the lines of the Brute. The top of the bed was intentionally raised to trick ones eye into believing the vehicle is shorter than it really is. By painting the top black, visually you are splitting the car up and it will cause the illusion that the vehicle is “bent” in the middle or just not proportioned correctly. Regardless of how and what color the top is painted, be sure to lightly sand or scuff the entire top to ensure the paint adheres properly. Its not required, but for a tidier appearance all seams, including the inside seams can be sealed with a high quality sealer such as FUSOR 123 but should not be filled and sanded smooth.INSTRUCTIONS1. Prepare the top for paint. Lightly sand the exterior of the top with a 320-400 grit DualAction Sander (DA). If you plan on painting the interior, use a good wax and degreaserand a red ScotchBright Pad to lightly scuff the interior (if there is any shine to the surfacethe interior paint will not stick.)2. Texture the top if desired. For an OE look textured top, use Standox Stone Chip Primer(Part #11344) or equivalent and apply per instructions to achieve a similar texture to theOE top. Textured tops tend to be much more durable and show less surface irregularities(which is why they are textured from the factory). If you are looking for a smooth finish,we recommend bolting the top down, aligning the seams and checking for wows in thesurface. Any wows must be filled and blocked to provide a quality finish.3. Paint the exterior using the same catalyzed base coat as the body uses. You can leave itthis way for easy repairs and a flat finish, you can clear coat it with a flattening agent, oryou can clear coat it with the texture. Most paint shops will spray various test cards sothat you can achieve the finish you are looking for.4. Painting the interior. The interior can be painted the same color as the dash board (usethe interior paint code located on the door or upper front door sill). The interior can be leftthe neutral composite color or even carpeted with speaker carpet.C. INSTALLATION OF THE GLASSInstallation of the glass is straightforward. Most builders take the painted top to a qualified auto glass installation specialist to have the glass installed. Often this is the best solution because most builders lack the specialized urethane guns and trim equipment required. The top lites are designed to be installed with high quality, quick set urethane without any trim.Use a urethane primer on the frit (the black baked on coating on the glass) designed to work with the urethane you plan to use. The rear window is designed to have a molding placedaround the glass with the seam located at the bottom, center of the rear glass. Again, be sure to use a matched primer and urethane. After applying the urethane, use high quality glass tape (designed not to take the paint off) to tape the windows in place until cured. The top lites are slightly curved and will flex into position once the windows are taped into place.D. TOP HARDWAREInstallation of the top hardware consists of the latches and handles. Install the OE header latches using the bolts from the donor vehicle. Install the handles in the side by locating the (4) 1/4-20 countersunk stainless hex head bolts, nuts and washers in the Brute hardware pack.Use the supplied hardware to bolt the handles in place. Do not over tighten.E. WIRING THE TOP AND INSTALLING THE CHMSLThe Brute top is designed to use the overhead lights from the “sound-pods” that come standard in 2003-2006 Jeep Wranglers. If your donor vehicle is an older unit, you will need to order the lens part #56047115AA (lens) and part #56047114AD (lamp). You’ll need to strip the light and the wiring from the “sound-pod” and connect the wires as shown below. Remove the lights and modify the connector as also shown below and reuse the existing screws from the donor. TheCHMSL (Center High Mount Stop Lamp) is reused from the donor vehicle. Unscrew the unit from the stock spare tire carrier assembly and remove the socket with as much wiring as possible from the stock tire carrier. Run the wiring through the top and then mount the CHMSL to the Brute top. Use a connector such as Mopar part #5013957AA and mating connector Mopar part #5017115AA to route all connections for the interior lights, CHMSL and any other accessories through so that the top can be removed easily.COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? As a manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, Eaton actively supports the requirements of the WEEE Directive. In compliance with the EU standard EN 50419 for marking of electrical and electronic equipment, we include the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on our products. This symbol alerts users that these products should be recycled in accordance with local environmentwal regulations and not discarded with household waste. When end users recycle WEEE they are helping to ensure that they are neither incinerated nor sent to landfills, minimizing potential negative impact on human health and the environment.Any device that is no longer needed must therefore be returned to the distributor or disposed to an authorized collection and recycling center in the area. Eaton encourages all its customers and end users to make responsible decisions when it comes to disposing products.Eaton is not responsible for the transportation of the device to the collection point or recycling center.8.Troubleshoot i ngIf there is an issue with the charging unit, an error message will appear on the screen, offering a brief descriptionof the problem with the suggested solution. 1.
