Culture Diversity is the Fountain of Culture Integration Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:Months ago, having been troubled by bouts of coughing for more weeks and failed to be cured by taking pills and syrup, I went back to my small hometown, hoping to be restored through taking prescriptions of traditional Chinese medicine. Miraculously, I regained my health only after taking them for a few days.As is known to all, Chinese herb is famous for its long history in curing diseases; however, with the advent of synthetic medicines, more and more modern medicines have taken its place due to the fact that pills are far more effective in curing many acute diseases. Nevertheless, Chinese herb shows its superiority which pills can’t overwhelm. Yet good news is that nowadays fairly amount of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicines are made and doctors manage to use both ways to cure patients on account of their complementary functions. The reason I talk about this is that I would like to compare Chinese herb and pills respectively to traditional Chinese culture and modern['mɔdən] culture. And I shall call the integrated traditional Chinese and modern medicine a typical presence of culture integration. This well illustrates the assertion that culture diversity is the fountain of integration. No culture diversity, no culture integration. Both historic and present events have given us clear instruction that culture diversity should be encouraged because only with diverse cultures can cultures be integrated into a brand new one.If it hadn’t been for the advocacy of contention of a hundred schools of thoughts during the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, there probably wouldn’t have been the grand integrated traditional Chinese culture system in which all kinds of thoughts blossomed. If it hadn’t been for the transmission of English to China, there wouldn’t have been so many “in” words which are fashion and vivid such as geilivable, dim sum, Taikonaut, bringing not only creativity but also joy in life. In contrast, if it hadn’t been for the Great Cultural Revolution, there wouldn’t have been a standstill or even regression in economy and culture during those miserable ten years. Now, my dear friends, let’s imagine these:Isn’t it fantastic to witness the 2010 Shanghai Expo showing its sparkle by exhibiting various cultures and high techs of different countries, yet all of them were in such a harmony? Isn’t it wonderful to capture fascinating moments with your iphone anywhere at any time and share with people all over the world on twitter, enjoying the fruits of global communication? Isn’t it amazing to experience a multicultural trip with a group of people from other nations and learn from one another by sharing dissimilar values of life, ways of communication as well as means of solutions towards problems? These are examples of culture diversity and as a result it gave birth to culture integration. Thanks to culture diversity, the world is much more colorful in presenting a huge number of different traits of character; thanks to culture diversity, different cultures encounter with one another and new cultures come into being, enabling us to discard the dross and select the essence; thanks to culture diversity, culture integration finds its way to better serve the global needs. Therefore, where there is culture diversity, there is culture integration. They are like brothers, complementary to each other, without which the world will be humdrum and people’s life will be monotonous. You may doubt that whether encouraging culture diversity would bring problems like conflicts and fractions among areas and countries. Then culture integration is the answer to it. With integration, we are likely to reach the realm of “Da Tong World”regardless of races, nationalities, colours of skin, so as to achieve the goal “One world, one dream.”I’m sure most of you remember the 1988 Olympiad theme song: “Hand in hand we can, start to understand. Breaking all the walls that come between us for all time" The lyrics have driven great power of joining hands in creating a better world. So my dear friends, let’s form a picture in our mind with people joining hand s together, with understanding to diverse culture and accept integration with good grace, making the world live as one.Thank you for listening.。
