certain time in the past.

教学重点Enable students to understand the passage about the important event through the title and the topic sentences in each paragraph.
教学难点Learn to retell about past events using the targart language.
教学用具The pictures of some important events, Tape recording.

Step1: Revision
Greet the class as usual.
Review:
Give some pictures and have students look at the pictures and
make sentences.
Ask some students to say their sentences.
Step2 Leading-in
Teach the new words.
Show the new words on the screen and explain them.
Show some pictures about important events in china and talk about
the pictures.
Ask students to make up their own conversations in pairs like this:
What were you doing when Beijing Olympics opened on August
8th ,2008?
I was watching TV. What about you?
I was listening to the radio.
Then ask some pairs to act out their conversations.
Step 3 Reading

Pre-reading:
Have students look at the pictures and title in the passage, then predict what the passage is about.
Ask some students to say their opinions.
While-reading:
Let students study the reading strategy together and call one student to say the meaning to class.
Have students read the passage and the title quickly, and then find out the main ides of this passage.
Call one student to read the title and the first sentence of each paragraph.
Then let them discuss in groups about the main ides of this passage.
Let students listen to the tape and answer the question in 2b. Then have them scan the passage to check the answers.
Ask students listen to read the passage again and finish 2c. Find the sentences in the passage to check the answers.
Have the students read the sentences in 2d and find out the sentences in the passage with similar meanings to the ones in 2d, and then underline them.
Check the answers in class.
Step 5 After-reading
Have students work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. Ask some students to answer the questions.
