Unit 2 CelebritiesPart A Micro-listeningListening for Important DetailsScript and Key to Exercise 1Jackie Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1954. His parents were very poor at that time. They couldn’t even afford to pay the hospital bills. But they decided to borrow some money so they could keep the baby. When he was seven, young Jackie was sent to a very strict boarding school, the Chinese Opera Research Institure, where he was trained in singing, acrobatics, martial arts and mime. When Jackie left school at the age of seventeen he became a movie stuntman, performing very exciting and often dangerous acts for actors in movies. And he appeared with Bruce Lee in several kung-fu movies, too. But Jackie Chan’s big breakthrough came in 1978, when he made the movie Snake in Eagle’s Shadow. What he did was that he combined comedy and dangerous stunts, and it was very appealing to the audience. The film was a big hit in Hong Kong.
