Culture diversity VS culture integration
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Do you know that the height of buildings in Paris must be in 37 meters? Have you ever heard our neighbor—Kingdom of Bhutan, which is praised as the last Shangri-La, restricts every year’s travelers within 7000? Do you have any idea that though in the same island, the life and culture in Scotland is very distinct from that in England? You may surprise and ask, why?!
Let me tell you the reason: because Paris doesn’t want to become New York.; Bhutan doesn’t want to abandon their own life; Scotland doesn’t want to lose their Bagpipes; because they all want to keep their unique culture.
If we see the whole earth as a piece of paint, then each nation or culture represents one color, that’s why our world is so tremendously colorful. Now, ladies and gentlemen, suppose we roll the all colors into one, what will you get? Definitely, the ugly bark brown! If we intentionally put different cultures together instead of keeping their character and distinction, maybe the colorful cultures will be similar to the charmless color and finally fade away.
Against the backdrop of increasing globalization, it’s necessary for us to build bridges among different cultures, however, in my opinion, culture integration is not indispensible while culture diversity is the key for the growth and prosperity of human’s culture.
We have the amount of glaciers in the South Pole; we have the endless Sahara in Africa; we have magnificent Qomolangma in the Himalayas, the atmospheric circulation connects them with each other; equally, we has Luxun in China; we has Dickens in Britain; we has Mark Twain in America; we has Tagore in India, human’s love of culture attaches them to each other. Different landforms present us this fabulous earth; in the meantime, varied cultures enrich our beautiful world!
It is our duty and our responsibility to maintain the precious culture diversity!
Thank you!。
