Level4 Unit2 Part1 Listening - Extinction Events 1The Earth was formed about 4.6 billion years ago.The first life appeared about a billion years later. The first plants didn't appear until around 2 billion years ago.Until about 580 million years ago, life forms were small and microscopic. Since that time, life has evolved into many different types, or species. However, scientists estimate that more than 99% of them are now extinct. There have been several extinction events in the history of the Earth. In an extinction event many life forms, or species of life, die out.The causes of mass extinction events are unsolved mysteries. These events are not predictable and can happen at any time.Scientists think that some of them were started by asteroid impacts or volcanic eruptions.Events like these can change the global conditions that life depends on.One major extinction event happened about 66 million years ago. That event may have been started by a large asteroid that hit the Earth. As a result, the dinosaurs and about half of all species on the planet died out. When the asteroid hit the earth, it started a chain of events.A chain of events is a series of events linked together, like a chain. This particular chain of events happened over a period of months and years. When the asteroid hit the Earth, it caused a huge cloud of dust to enter the atmosphere. This cloud of dust blocked the sun and darkened the Earth for many months. Without enough sunlight, plants and plant-eating animals quickly died. With the deaths of so many plants and animals, the food chain collapsed. This led to the deaths of many more species.Mass extinction events have played an important part in the evolution of life.In fact, some extinction events have helped to accelerate evolution. For example, some mammals lived through the age of the dinosaurs, but they couldn't compete. When the dinosaurs were removed, the mammals were able to compete more successfully.Once they could compete, mammals evolved to a higher state.Without extinction events, perhaps we wouldn't be here today.Level4 Unit2 Part1 Listening - Extinction Events 2Scientists estimate that there have been at least 5 mass extinctions in the last 540 million years. They also believe that we have entered a new extinction event.Species are becoming extinct at a much faster rate than before.Instead of asteroids or volcanic eruptions, the current event is the result of human activities.Human activities, for example, have led to global warming.Global warming is the result of an increase in carbon gases in our atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, so the Earth is getting warmer. As a result, sea levels are rising and weather patterns are changing. In addition, we humans are destroying the habitats of many plants and animals.Cutting down forests and polluting rivers destroys the habitats of many forms of life. There is no longer any doubt that this is happeningSpecies of life are disappearing at an increasing rate.Global temperatures are rising and weather patterns are changing.Scientists are warning us that fast action is necessary to save our future. If we don't act, we may go the way of the dinosaurs.(This new extinction event is caused by humans.)Level4 Unit2 Part1 Vocabulary - Body SystemsThe body's circulatory system includes the heart and blood vessels. The heart pumps blood to all parts of the body through a network of arteries and veins. The digestive system breaks down and absorbs food into the body.It supplies the energy that the body needs for growth and repair. After digestion, excess food is turned into waste and eliminated from the body. The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves. This is your body's control system. It controls your muscles and organs, including your circulatory and digestive systems. The respiratory system includes the nose and lungs. It brings air and oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide. The lungs are where oxygen enters the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is removed. The immune system protects the body against infections and diseases.Sneezing and fever are examples of how the immune system works. If an infection invades the body, the immune system attacks it.(The blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood from the heart are called arteries.)(The digestive system is where food is broken down and absorbed into the body.)(The nervous system regulates your heartbeat and digestion.)Level4 Unit2 Part1 Vocabulary - Great DiscoveriesThe controlled use of fire allowed people to cook food and survive in the colder climates.Fire provided light so that people could work and socialize for longer hours. With the invention of agriculture, people could grow food and settle into communities.By growing food, people could spend less time hunting and more time for other things such as art.The domestication of animals allowed people to raise and use animals for food and work.By raising herds of animals such as sheep, humans had a regular supply of meat and clothing. The strength of animals such as horses and oxen was used for work and transportation. The development of tools and machines has resulted in more efficient manufacturing and construction. With better tools and machines, work can be done with fewer people and at much lower costs. The development of science and engineering has improved many things, including communications. With an understanding of electricity, telephones and radios allow people to communicate over long distances.(Science and engineering have changed the way we communicate with each other.) Did they get a divorce? You guessed it. It may be an apple, and it may be an orange. It’s got to be one or the other. It can’t be anything else. Now let’s look at it from the man’s point of view. From his point of view, the probabilities are different. From his point of view, the probability that he has an orange is 100% or 0%. That’s because he knows what he has.For him there is no uncertainty. If he has an orange, the probability is 100%.If he doesn’t have an orange, the probability is 0%.He either has it or he doesn’t.From our point of view, the probability that he has an orange is 50%.From his point of view, the probability that he has an orange is 100% or 0%. It's about immersing yourself in the language, practicing consistently, and engaging with different learning resources. With this in mind, here is a step-by-step guide for new English learners:Step 1: Setting Clear GoalsThe first step in any learning journey is to set clear and achievable goals. Ask yourself, why do you want to learn English? Is it for travel, work, education, or connecting with people from other cultures? Once you've identified your reasons for learning English, you can set specific goals that align with your motivation. For example, your goal could be to hold a basic conversation in English, write a small essay, or understand English movies without subtitles. Having clear goals will help you stay focused and motivated throughout your learning journey.Step 2: Establishing a Learning RoutineConsistency is key when it comes to language learning. Establishing a regular learning routine will help you stay on track and make steady progress. Set aside dedicated time for learning English each day, whether it's 30 minutes or an hour. This could be in the morning before work, during your lunch break, or in the evening after dinner. Find a time that works best for you and stick to it. By making English learning a part of your daily routine, you will build a habit that will help you progress more quickly.Step 3: Immersing Yourself in EnglishImmersing yourself in the English language is crucial for improving your skills. Surround yourself with English as much as possible. This could mean watching English TV shows and movies, listening to English music and podcasts, or reading English books and articles. The more you expose yourself to the language, the more your skills will improve. Additionally, try to incorporate English into your daily life by labeling household items in English, thinking in English, and practicing speaking with native speakers if possible.Step 4: Building VocabularyVocabulary is the building block of any language. To improve your English vocabulary, start by learning the most common words and phrases used in everyday conversations. You can use flashcards, vocabulary apps, or online resources to learn and review new words regularly. It's also helpful to practice using these words in context through speaking and writing exercises. Make it a goal to learn a certain number of words each week and review them regularly to reinforce your memory.Step 5: Mastering Grammar and Sentence StructureWhile vocabulary is important, understanding grammar and sentence structure is essential for communicating effectively in English. Take the time to familiarize yourself with basic grammar rules, such as subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles, and prepositions. There are many online resources, textbooks, and grammar exercises available to help you practice and reinforce your understanding of English grammar. Additionally, practice writing complete sentences and short paragraphs to apply what you've learned.Step 6: Practicing Speaking and ListeningBeing able to understand and communicate verbally in English is a crucial skill. Practice speaking and listening by engaging in conversations with other English learners, native speakers, or teachers. You can join language exchange groups, attend conversation meetups, or find a language partner online to practice speaking. Additionally, listen to English audio materials, such as podcasts, audiobooks, and news broadcasts, to improve your listening skills and familiarize yourself with different accents and speaking styles.Step 7: Writing and ComprehensionImproving your writing and comprehension skills is equally important. Start by writing short essays, diary entries, or emails in English to practice expressing your thoughts and ideas. You can also take advantage of online writing prompts and exercises to challenge yourself. When it comes to comprehension, read English articles, books, and news pieces to improve your reading skills and expand your vocabulary. Pay attention to the context and meaning of the content you're reading, and try to summarize and discuss what you've read with others.Step 8: Seeking Feedback and CorrectionReceiving feedback and correction is essential for improving your language skills. Find a teacher, tutor, or language partner who can provide constructive feedback on your speaking, writing, and comprehension. They can help you spot and correct mistakes, improve your pronunciation, and provide guidance on how to express yourself more clearly in English. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, as they are an important part of the learning process. Embrace feedback as an opportunity to grow and improve.Step 9: Using Technology and Learning ResourcesThere is no shortage of learning resources and tools available for English learners. Take advantage of technology by using language learning apps, online courses, and educational websites to supplement your learning. These resources offer interactive exercises, language games, audio lessons, and vocabulary drills to make your learning experience more engaging and effective. Additionally, consider using language learning platforms to connect with teachers, join language exchange communities, and access personalized learning materials.Step 10: Staying Motivated and PersistentLearning a new language takes time, effort, and dedication. It's normal to feel frustrated or discouraged at times, especially when faced with challenges or setbacks. Stay motivated and persistent by celebrating your progress, setting new goals, and reminding yourself of the reasons why you started learning English in the first place. Surround yourself with supportive and like-minded individuals who can encourage and inspire you to keep going. The second most important factor was the work environment. In other words, for many, money is everything.People want to like where they work.In fact, if we combine working environment and co-workers, the total is 35%.This is well above the 25% for salary and benefits.Taking together, they are more important than salary and benefits.Career path is also important especially for younger applicants. They want to see that their job helps to build a successful career. For older workers, this may not be as important.Older workers often put the higher value on the balance between life and work.
I finished my work, andI just did a good job.(我完成了学习工作,而且感觉做的还不错)。

You can agree with people by saying: That’s just what I was thinking.I couldn’t agree more with Anna.I have to side with Anna on this issue. To disagreeAttendees may have different opinions about a particular issue.Saying“I disagree”directly in a meeting can be considered impolite.Instead, you can politely disagree with someone by saying:To be honest, I’m not sure about that.I beg to differ, I don’t think this is the priority right now.I see your point, but I don’t think advertising on TV is a good idea.To ask for clarificationIf you don’t understand what people are saying, ask them to clarify their point. Asking questions early on can help you avoid making mistakes later.I don’t quite follow you. Could you please clarify this for me?I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what you are getting at.Could you give me some further clarification, please?。

英文发音技巧:让自己口语变得有节奏导语:本文整理了九大英语发音技巧,教你怎样流利说英语!
一、连读
连读有两种规则,分别为:
1、以辅音结尾的单词+元音开头的单词:
如:(1)I’d li(ke a)nother bow(l o)f rice. 这里like / laik / 以辅音结尾,another 以元音开头,所以连读;(2)We have an English friend. 这个句子有两处连读:前一处是have的尾辅音/v/与an的开头元音//连读为/v/;后一处是an的尾辅音/n/与English 的开头音素/i/连读为/ni/。
举例:I’m~an~English boy.
It~is~an~old book. Let me have~a look~at~it。
Ms Black workedin~an~office last~yesterday. I called~you half~an~hour~ago。
Put~it~on, please.Not~at~all. Please pick~it~up。
注意:以辅音结尾指的是音标中的最后一个音是辅音,而不是单词的结尾,这如同u[ju:.]niversity前面的定冠词必须用a 一样。
2、以辅音结尾的单词 + h开头的单词h不发音,与前面的辅音连读
what wil(l he) [wili]do? Ha(s he) done it before? Mus(t he) [ti] go?
Can he do it? Should he….?。
