粗俗俚语，即日常所说的粗话脏话，在英语中称之为“four-letter words ”或“goul language ”,岁粗俗不雅，但它是任何一种语言的有机组成部分，它们与所谓的“文明高雅”词语一样，是人们情感表达比不可缺的常用手段。
语用功能：(pragmatic function)
1，表示说话者辱骂，愤怒，怨恨和鄙视等感情。
(said the speaker reproach, anger, hate and despise feelings
)
“狗屁的会！马光荣，他是狗屁的党员......”
“Blast their meetings！”he roared.“Ma Guangrong--I know he is a confounded Party member...”
她奔进房来，一把抱住女儿，流者眼泪说道：“孩子！妈妈对不起!可怜你年纪轻轻......都是那个该死的畜生！”
Running in to hug her daughter, she said with tears ,"I'm the one to blame ,child .You are so young...It was all the fault of that scoundrel!" （杨沫：<<青春之歌>>）
2，表示说话者的蔑视，诅咒，厌烦，惊讶等语气。
(2, said the speaker's contempt, curse, bored, surprised tone, etc
)
我要去就是王八旦！
I'll be damned if I'll go !
碰上他妈的这么一个坏天气！
What beastly weather !
他妈的，雨真大！
Blast it ! What a heavy rain !
3，还有一些粗俗语在特定的语境中，并非表示词语的表面指称语义，而是表示说话者的特别惊讶，喜爱，赞美，亲热等感情。
(And some rough saying in the context of a particular, not said the surface of the words that semantics, but said the speaker's special surprised, love, and praise, warm feelings
这小家伙真鬼！
The boy is very smart.
那姑娘长得贼漂亮。
She is the killer .
翻译方法：
（一）直译
“狗屁！人家抢了我们的，你这东西也要来调戏女人吗？...”
“Dog farts! While those people are stealing our money ,all a turd like you can do is get gay with women !”（茅盾：<<林家铺子>>）
"狗娘养的贱货！你还自以为是金枝玉叶的小姐吗？贱货养的贱货！住山洞的穷婆娘，卖淫的小老婆，能养出什么好东西！"
“You vile creature ! So you think you 're a fine lady, eh? Your low-class mother could only breed low-class brats. A beggarly bitch from a mountain cave ,sold as a concubine or worse -- what can you expect of any child of hers?”（杨沫<<青春之歌>>）
（二）意译
凤姐笑着啐道：“别放你娘的屁！你拿东西换我的人情来了吗？我很不稀罕你那鬼鬼祟祟!”说者，一笑走了。
“Don't talk rubbish !”Xifeng snorted. "I've so many things already,I've no where to put them .
I don't care for your sneaky way of doing things ." And so she went off. （曹雪芹：<<红楼梦>>）
另外，由于说话者身份教养，使用目的和场合不同，粗俗词有时用有隐含义的词语代替，这业是需要注意的。
焦大益发连贾珍都说出来，乱嚷乱叫，说：“要往祠堂里哭大爷，那里承望到如今生下这些畜生来！每日偷狗戏鸡，爬灰的爬灰，养小叔子的养小叔子，我什么都不知道？”
“Let me go to the Ancestral Temple and weep for my old master,”he fumed. " Little didi he expect to be get such degenerates, a houseful of rutting dogs and bitches in heat , day in and day out scratching in the ashes and carrying on with younger brother-in-law . Don't think you can fool me" （曹雪芹：<<红楼梦>>）
句中，“爬灰”是句较隐晦含蓄的粗俗语，直译后需对其含义在当页附以必要的注释：
A slang term for adultery between a man and his daughter-in-law;
"养小叔子"直译为“carry on with ...”此在《Longman Contemporary English-Chinese Dictionary 》中意为“to have a love affair with”以免过于直露，保持了原语与译语在语体色彩的一致。
