1介词besides，but，except的用法辨析 1.基本区别 三者都可表示“除外”，但besides表示一种累加关系，意指“除了什么之外，还有……”；而except或but则表示一种排除关系，意指“除了什么之外，不再有……”。如： Besides his wife，his daughter also went to see him. 除他妻子外，他女儿也去看过他（即妻子女儿都去看过他）。 Nobody went to see him except[but]his wife. 除他妻子外，没有一个人看过他（即只有他妻子去看过他）。 注：在否定句中，besides也表示“除……之外不再有……”，与but，except同义。如： No one passed the exam besides[except]Jim. 除吉姆外，没一个人通过考试。 2. but与except （1）两者都可表示“除……外不再有……”，但含义上略有差别：but侧重指意义的几乎完整性，而except则侧重指后面除去的部分。比较： All are here but one.除一个人都到了。 All are here except one.还有一个人没到。 （2）在现代英语中，but的介词用法十分有限，一般说来，它只能用在下列词语之后： no①，no one，nobody，nothing，nowhere等 any②，anyone，anybody，anything，anywhere等 every③，everyone，everybody，everything，everywhere等 all④，none等 who⑤，what，where等 Everyone knows it but you.除你之外大家都知道。 I haven't told anybody but you.除你之外，我没告诉任何人。 No one but he[him]showed much interest in it.除他之外没有一个人对此有很大兴趣。 一般说来，若没有出现上述词汇，就不宜使用介词but，否则可能造成错句。但是except却没有以上限制。比较： 正：The window is never opened except in summer. 除夏天外，这扇窗户从不打开。 误：The window is never opened but in summer. （3）but一定不能用于句首，except通常不用于句首： 除我之外每个人都累了。 正：Everyone is tired but（except）me. 2正：Everyone but（except）me is tired. 误：But（Except）me，everyone is tired. 注：except for可用于句首，表示except的意思： 正：Except for me，everyone is tired. 3. except与except for： except主要用来谈论同类的东西，而except for则主要用来谈论不同类的东西，有时含有惋惜之意。如： All compositions are well written except yours. 除了你的作文外，其他的作文都写得很好。 His composition is good except for a few spelling mistakes. 他的作文写得不错，只是有几处拼写错误。 注：若用于句首，则except for与except同义（但except通常不用于句首）。 4. except for与but for： except for主要表示排除，but for主要表示一种虚拟条件（与虚拟语气连用）。如： Except for me，everyone passed the exam. 除了我之外，大家都通过了考试。 But for my help，she would not have passed the exam. 若不是我的帮助，她就不会通过考试。 But for the atmosphere plants would die. 如果没有大气，植物就会死亡。 5.besides的其他用法 besides除用作介词外，还用作副词，其意为“此外”、“而且”，可用于分句句首（通常用逗号隔开）或句尾。如： I don't want to go；besides，I'm too tired. 我不想去，而且我也太累了。 This car belongs to Smith，and he has two others besides. 这部车是史密斯的，此外他还有两部。

在英语中能表达“除外；除……之外”意思的介词或词组常用的有 besides、except、but、except for、but for、other than 以及apart from 等。学生对这些词的具体运用容易弄混，给阅读和写作带来一定的困难。现就这些词的区别与用法做如下总结。

一、except 、but 和besides

A. 当我们要表示“从整体里减去一部分”，常用except和but。except的含意是因为“所说的道理或事实不能适用于那部分”，着重于“排除在外”。如：

1. Everybody went to the exhibition except/but Mary.

2. I had nothing in the world except/but a one-million-pound note.

值得注意的是，but多用在序数词、all、none、who以及由every-，any-，no-词缀构成的复合词如everything，anywhere，nobody等之后，如：

1. In the maths competition he won the first place but two. (第三名)

2. They are all gone but me.

3. There is no one but me in the office now..

4. Who but George would do such a thing?

5. You can get the book anywhere but here.

还有，but 之后可接动词不定式。如果but前有行为动词do（不管它以何种形式出现），动词不定式前的to常省略；反之保留to。如：

Beside ,except, except for 和but 用作介词时都表示“除…外”，但意义和用法有同有异。

一、besides与except

1、 在肯定句中,besides “除…,之外(还有)”解,其宾语被包括在内.except 作“除去。。。。之外”解，表示“排除”意义，其宾语不包括在内。

2、 在否定句中，besides和except意义相同。全局的意义是否定的，而他们后边的宾语却是被肯定的对象。

比较而言，besides在否定句中不如except 常用。因此，不少人对这一用法不熟悉，甚至1987年成人高考试题中 的命题者也出现了失误：

He is a strange man. He has no friends _____you.

A. From B. besides c. except D. with

命题者给的正确答案是c，实际上是B也是正确答案。在下面的例句中，besides 的意义均与except 相同。

She has no relations besides an aged aunt.除了一个老年的姑母以外他没有灭的亲戚。

No living creature ever walks in it besides the chaplain. 除了牧师，没有人在里面走过。

He had few friends besides us.除了我们外他没有什么朋友。

We have no other tools besides this.

Besides you , no one is qualified.初你之外没有人合格。

3、 在疑问句中，besides 和except 有时意义相同，可以换用。例如：

Do you have any other books besides/except these two? 除了这两本书，你还有别的书吗？

(1)besides 表示“除……之外(还，全部计算在内)”，宾语被包含在整体之内的部分。如：

We have seen the lion besides the tiger.除了老虎之外，我们也见过狮子。

(2)except 表示“除……之外(其余都，不计算在内)”，指从整体除去一部分，排除的是同类事物。如：

We are all Chinese except Tom in our class. 在我们班，除了Tom外，我们都是中国人。

（3）except for 也表示排除，但被排除的内容与主语往往不是同一类的。

Your homework is quite good except for a few spelling mistakes.

你的作业写的不错，只是有几处拼写错误以外。

(4) but表示“除……之外”常与具有否定意义的词连用。 He has no choice but to wait.除了等，他别无选择。

Loud，loudly，aloud都可以表示“大声地”的含义，但这三个词还是有细微差别的

aloud 只能作副词，意思为“出声地”或“大声地”，相对于默读而言，强调出声

aloud作“出声地”含义时，主要与read, think等连用，表示声音可以被听到。

作“大声地”含义时，主要与shout, call, cry等词连用。aloud没有比较级和最高级

例句：

He read her letter aloud to the rest of the family. 他把她的信大声读给家人听。

They could not speak aloud in the library. 他们不能在图书馆大声说话。

一、besides 意为“除了……，（还，也）”，表示的是追加关系，整体中包括了“除了”的部分；

Five other representatives arrived late besides me. 除了我还有五位代表来晚了。（晚到的代表中包括“我”）

Besides his wife, his daughter also went to see him. 除他妻子外，他女儿也去看过他。

二、except 意为“除了……，（其余的都）”，表示的是剔除的关系，整体中不包括“除了”的部分，except 除了后面接名词、代词外，还可接介词短语或从句。

All the other five representatives arrived late except me. 除了我，其他的五位代表都来晚了。（晚到的代表中不包括“我”）

I seldom go by bus except when it is rainy. 除了下雨的时候，我很少乘公共汽车。

He rarely went anywhere except to his office. 除了去办公室，他很少去别的地方。

I know nothing about it except what he told me. 除他告诉我的情况外，我对此事一无所知。

My papers seem to be everywhere except where they ought to be. 我的文件似乎完全不在它们应该放置的地方。

三、except for 表示的是，在整体上给以定论后，再从局部上加以修正。与except 不同的是：except 所“排除”的部分与前面所述整体词属于同类，是部分与整体的关系；而except for 所“排除”的部分与前面所述的整体词往往不是同类。如：
