research has shown the great importance of play in the development of a human being. From earliest infancy (婴儿),every child needs opportunity and right materials for play, and the main tools of play are toys. The main function of toys is to suggest, encourage and play.To succeed in this, they must be good toys, which children will play with often, and will come back again and again. Therefore,it is important to choose suitable toys for different stages of a child’s development. In recent years, research on infant development has shown that the standard a child is likely to reach, within the range of his inherited (遗传的) abilities,is largely determined in the first three years of his life.So a baby’s ability to benefit from the right play materials should not be underestimated.A baby who is encouraged, talked to and shown things and played with, has the best chance of growing up successfully. In the next stage, from three to five years old, curiosity knows no bounds.Every type of suitable toys should be made available to the child, for trying out, experimenting and learning, for discovering his own particular ability:bricks and jigsaws (七巧板) and construction toys;painting, scribbling (涂鸦) and making things;sand and water play;toys for imaginative and pretending play—the first social games for learning to play and get on with others. But at the third stage of play development—from five to seven or eight years old—the child is at school. But for a few more years play is still the best way of learning,at home or at school. It is easier to see which type of toys the child most enjoys.Until the age of seven or eight, play and work mean much the same to a child. But once reading has been mastered, then books become the main source of learning.Toys are stillinteresting and valuable, which lead up to new hobbies, but their significance has changed to a child of nine or ten years old, toys and games mean,as to adults, relaxation and fun.1.According to the first passage we know that as a child grows up________.A.he should be allowed to choose his own toysB.he should be given the same toysC.he should be given fewer and fewer toysD.he should be given different toys2.According to the passage, the abilities a child has inherited from his parents________.A.determine his characterB.will not change after the age of threeC.partly determined the standard he is likely to reachD.to a large extent determine the choice of toys3.We learn from the passage that a child has boundless curiosity________.A.when he is two B.when he is around fourC.when he is six D.when he is eight4.The passage is mainly about________.A.the role of play in a child’s developmentB.the importance of schoolingC.the importance of pre-school educationD.the choice of toys for youngster(2010·深圳二模)In “Relax,We’ll Be Fine”,columnist David Brooks writes,“The fact is,despite all the problems,America’s future is extremely bright.”Mr Brooks acknowledges the “According to recent survey,60 percent of Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction. The same percentage believe that the US is in long-term decline. The political system is not functional.A financial crisis looks unavoidable. There are plenty of reasons to be sad.”But,he writes:“Demographers (人口统计学家) predict that over the next 40 years, the US population will increase by an additional 10 million people,to 400 million over all.The populationwill be determined, hardworking and relatively young. In 2050,only a quarter will be over 60,compared with 31 percent in China and 41 percent in Japan.”As the rising generation leads an economic recovery,it will also participate in a communal (of community) one.We are living in a global age of social entrepreneurship (创业精神).In sum,the US is on the edge of a demographic, economic and social recovery, built on its historic strengths. The US has always been good at destructive change. And it’s always been good at decentralized community-building,too.Surely a country with this much going for it is not going to wait around passively and let a rotten political culture drag it down.5.In his article “Relax,We’ll Be Fine”,David Brooks intends to________.A.encourage Americans to be optimistic about their futureB.give Americans courage to face their financial crisisC.persuade Americans to live happily and generouslyD.inspire Americans to lead an economic recovery6.There are all the reasons for Americans to be unhappy except________.A.the function-failed political systemB.the increasing populationC.the declining economyD.the wrong direction and financial crisis7.Over the next 40 years, according to David Brooks,Americans will be________.A.more optimistic and humorousB.more pessimistic and strongerC.more energetic and promisingD.more considerate and aggressive8.In the author’s opinion,America________.A.has always benefited from warsB.has done well by its political systemC.has contributed a lot to human progressD.has contributed to world’s economy9.We can learn from the passage that________.A.American political system and culture are backwardB.America is not a nation to give in to
