Who teaches betterHello fellows, it’s an honor to stand here to share my shallow views to all of you.In ancient age, there were two great teachers in the world which are wise, knowledgeable, and untouchable. These two sages are Socrates and Confucius. When it comes to educational mode, they have something in common, but at the same time they still hold volume different views.Socrates is an ancient Greek philosopher, educator, mentor and a kind guider. He was regarded as a saint dying for the pursuit of the truth. In his perception, education should be diversification. His teaching methods are more like deliberations rather than solo demonstrations, which is why he never taught students theready-made answers or force them to study. Which is why he can make the lessons easier to understand and stimulate the enthusiasm of intellectual curiosity.Because of the different culture and different national conditions the education methods are bound to be disparated. Confucius is the representative personage of Chinese education. From the perspective of Confucius. His teaching method is the gentlemen type. Although in the teaching, he is an amiable old man, still,he inaugurated a new education method which is teaching different students in different ways. This educational mode is more to cultivate students to the teacher’s loyalty and understanding to believe in authority. In that ancient age, that’s a pretty effective method of education, because there is no need to question the authority but abbey it.Now, however, we no longer live in the ancient age but the modern age. With the development of education swift and violent, teaching only in one method is no longer the answer that we ask. A brand new way of teaching is what we are chasing desperately at this age. We cannot just simply learn from the books but also practice in the real world. With the combination of both methods of learning, can you master the knowledge that you learn.Socrates and Confucius, no doubt, are great philosophers and mentor in so many fields, but it’s unfair to judge them only in one or two part of them. Finding out the real points from the whole page is the vital matter.Thank you for your listening, thank you.。

they’ll leave with endless possibilities.Socrates and Confucius are such great people.Assuming these two wise individuals with their regional thoughts deeply in mind meet one day, what kind of spectacle will happen on them or even in the two countries, especially in China?Firstly, Chinese will gradually realize the importance of the establishment of the legal system. The Confucianism centered on morality. It emphasizes that morality is much more important than the law, which inversely causes the citizen’s law consciousness to be light. While the Socrates lived in a more law-based country, comparing to the virtue, he attached greater importance to the legislation. So, when Socrates meets Confucius, he will share his legal awareness with Confucius and finally blend it to the Chinese culture.Secondly, Chinese will deal with things in a more rational and scientific way.In ancient China, most people are superstitious. The Confucianism spread some kind of mysterious figure, such as the god and the fairy. So, many times when it came to something difficult to deal with or explain to the civilians, the rulers may choose to advocate the illusory theology to comfort them. This kind of handling will only cover up the facts in short term. While Socrates’ thought is scientific, he may havean absolutely different way to deal with the same thing. Thus, when Socrates meets Confucius, as the days progressed, Chinese will be more rational and no longer depend on the so called god to bless for a good life, but try to work hard on their own.Thirdly, Chinese culture will be more inclusive and exoteric in academic. The Confucianism is almost authoritarian in the ancient times, especially in the Qing dynasty, which limited the development of other schools.Whereas the Socrates treats the academic in a broader way, he recognizes the freedom of learning. Therefore, when Socrates meets Confucius, Chinese culture will develop in a more inclusive and exoteric way.Different thoughts will integrate and the Chinese culture will“sparking”.In conclusion, if Socrates meets Confucius, great changes must have happened to China in the establishment of the legal system, the rational and scientific Chinese manners of dealing with things and the more inclusive and exoteric Chinese culture.第四篇:当孔子遇到苏格拉底(英文)When socrates meet confucious Good afternoon.Welcome to ConfuciusYudan has said:”Confucius is grey,it’s splen did when grey is mixed with any other colours.”That is to say,Confucius interlinks the colourful world.Interlink is extensive, from east to west, from ancient times to modern times. The majority of people may can’t help asking:”what sparks can appear when con fucius interlinks Socrates?”So,today, the tittle of my speech is when Socrates meets confucius. Some people advocate that Socrates or confucius traverses to meet. While from my own perspective,Socrates is on behalf of ancient greek, confucius is on behalf of ancient china,to some extent, the title means that the culture of ancient greek meets culture of ancient china.Theystaged a similar life, bring hope and bright to their own country, making a difference.Socrates’concept of supremacy of law and a democratic society are invariably corresponded with confucius’ idea of ceremy and common society.Indeed, the waves pushed forward waves. In some ways,Socrates is superior to confucius. For example, the limitation of kinship that Socrates put forward is straightforward,on contrast, the view that confucius hold ispeople are more important than the ruler, giving us a more temperate feeling. We will form thesituation which is called a combination of Chinese and western when the two cultures meet.,which can help us own a finer and more harmonious society.。
JUST LIKE ME
When Socrates meets ConfuciusWhen we speak of "Socrates met Confucius" this topic, is removed from the reality of science fiction, we explored two kinds of culture, is the two in the history of the star on behalf of the meeting. There is an old saying in China"hero", the falling of ceremony spring and autumn and the Warring States and the hearts of Athens is so similar, in such a situation, Confucius and Socrates have each simultaneously staged a similar life, in this bar called history is half a catty eight two. Ten years after the death of Confucius, Socrates was born, with a similarly like a sage like not loving face, but also with a great and sacred heart, to Athens, bringing hope and light to the world. Two thoughts create about politics, philosophy, morality is strikingly similar, all harbor lofty political ambitions.A unique set of political philosophy, one said "supremacy of law", said a "gift",a longing for "democratic society", an outline of the "harmonious society",under the same historical background, not have different approaches but equally satisfactory results and wonderful. But careful study, but also found some differences: Socrates adhere to the law, the "de" is equivalent to "law",but Confucius was led by Germany, that "de" is greater than "law", these two different concepts have been today also has far-reaching influence. Even in a certain extent gave us these so-called by the lack of Chinese Confucianism, moral. When the people we envy of Europe and the United States and the national high-quality, but from time to time to offend public decency, maybe we should get this back to Confucius in the development of fermentation sour "de above the law". In the hierarchy of the prevalence of the period, for the supreme ruler, they all have their own opinion, Socrates said "Wang Quan,Confucius said" restricted "people", the former to the straightforward way to rulerShow your tough uncompromising attitude, and the "people" was just like the gentle words, intention action rulers of the world with virtue. After the replacement of dynasties, how many kings will this teach untiringly into action? The students surpass the teacher. The teacher, this is true, in these respects,Socrates is advanced a lot, perhaps this is the direct cause fatal disaster brought him. Not much difference between the two ways of education,Socrates likened himself to a midwife, through anti referring contemptuously, inspiration, induction, attributed to help others thought. But Confucius is also the inspiration to make the students understand it. The two people were making, "the pursuit of virtue, education is on" as its mission, so there is no doubt about the process of human civilization contribution. To this day, they had been yearning for democracy, Da tong is realized in a certain extent, but the efficiency is still pending, now Chinese and Western advocated ", brought by culture compatible""globalization"situation it is Socrates and Confucius, represents the fusion of different cultures, development, perfect, belie ve they encounter will bring a bright future!民族学12-5庹梦婷。

China has been talking about quality-oriented education for tens of year but never truly achieved the goal of quality education, only left a bunch of empty words. Is there anyone who can teach us what the core of quality education is? At first, I want to tell a story of my own.At primary school, we students got a homework —washing feet for our parents. When we once heard this news, our faces flushed to red. We didn’t understand why we suddenly have to footbath for our parents, don’t know what meaning is h iding behind this behavior. Now, we knew this is so called quality education. But apparently this is a failure case.So who can solve the problem? If there is a time machine, our Chinese great educator Confucius will hurry to come, then hit nowadays educators’ heads one by one. He says: It seems that you haven’t got my point at all! If you want to see students learn to reward their parents by washing feet, why don’t you inspire them? Let them know that this is a virtue, a virtue that will earn more respects and compliments from others, a virtue that you have to obtain if you want to be a decent guy. This is Confucius, who thinks the best education is to inspire students what is good and what is wrong. Why? Why do you think this is a virtue? This question is not raised by me, but by an old man named Socrates who also was one the greatest educators in the west. Faced this problem, Socrates squat down in front of the childhood-me, asking, so…you grew up all by yourself? What yourparents have done for you? What you can do for them? How about a footbath? This is totally Socrates, he never tells students to do what he thinks is right but lead them thinking whether it’s right or not.If Socrates and Confucius really meet one day, though arguments will inevitably exist, they will at last shake hands. Because they all share one principle on the quality education: teaching students to be a decent man with virtue by leading them to understand reason rather than simply tell them.Later, I tended to discover the answer of quality education through the Internet. And I found out more than 4 million articles relating to it, but none of them had really worked out. So, why don’t we think about the way that these two greatest educators suggested, maybe, one day, the goal of quality education will finally come true.。

(1)Good morning! Ladies and gentlemen:Today, I’m very glad to be here to share with you some of my ideas about the topic: when Socrates met Confucius.Socrates, a sage in the Western history, and Confucius, a sage in the Eastern history, both are very famous educationists and philosophers. In ancient society, people couldn’t have a formal school to learn knowledge. It was these two philosophers, Socrates and Confucius, who set up schools of different style to bring light into people’s confused minds. So, Socrates and Confucius are great educationists in human history. But, Great educationists as they were, they had quite different teaching methods. As of their methods, let’s image a scene! One day, Socrates and Confucius were giving their own students a lesson on Truths.Confucius would say: “My students, today, I will teach you what is a truth and how to distinguish between true and false.”and then presented some examples, mostly stories, to help students understand truths.Socrates: he would ask at first: “Dear sirs, this time, please tell me what a truth is?”Having been replied, he would not give out any comment and just kept on asking: “then dear sir, what is a fallacy!”“How can you distinguish them?” By such endless questioning and even debating, he cultivated students’ own ability to reason, to deduce and to put forward a conclusion themselves. From the above-mentioned example, it is clear that Confucius favors giving instructions and directions to his students while Socrates more willing to question students, debate with them, inspiring them to independently find instructions and directions.Just as a saying-- Different minds lead to different ways. And, different minds of great sages even lead to different foundations for some systems. Socrates and Confucius, the two greatest pioneers, have brought the West and the East different educational systems. The East, especially China, stresses passing down knowledge but a little omits cultivating independent thinking, while the West focuses on independent thinking and reasoning ability but a bit overlooks fundamental knowledge.Just like, we can’t say who is the greatest educationist in human history, Socrates or Confucius? There is still no perfect one among their separated teaching methods. So, we just need to make Socrates meet Confucius ---I mean, mix their different methods together---let one’s advantages make up for the other’s disadvantages. Such meeting, of course, would bring human beings more benefits quite beyond these two great men’s expectations.(2)Good morning!
