They work on the stratification principle;the vibration of the machine sifts the material bed so that fi n-er material passes through the coarser material. This enables particles smaller than the meshof the screen to pass through it.Screens operating on the free-fall principle have been developed as an alternative to con-ventional screens. They are used successfully in both mobile and stationary plant. Sandvikhave further developed simple free-fall screening by building each deck in several sectionsand optimizing the inclination of the deck sections. The people at Sandvik arethe people who can help you optimize your screening process!2Sandvik has developed screens and screening media to provide the best solution for your screening process....AND SCREENING MEDIA3Sandvik’s Master-F lo screen is one of the most common types of screen on the market.This sturdy, highly reliable screen comes in three different types and Sandvik can offer it in awide range of sizes.Master-Flo GSThe Master-F lo GS (Grizzly Screen) screens are recom-mended for installation between a primary feeder and aprimary crusher. Typical feed material is blasted rock, rippedrock or gravel with high fines content, often containingdiffi cult wet natural fi nes or clay. The Master-Flo GS screenshave a single grizzly or plate type of scalping deck with theoption of a second deck with woven wire. Master-F lo GSscreens immediately after a primary feeder gives moreeffective scalping than a primary feeder with a built-in grizzly.The stroke and speed of a Master-Flo GS remains constantwhile the feed rate is adjusted by varying the feeder speedproviding effi cient separation at all times.Master-Flo XSThe Master-Flo XS (Xtraheavy Screen) screens are built withextra heavy-duty applications in mind. They are circularmotion inclined screens with two or three decks, and canbe fi tted with wire mesh, polyurethane and rubber screen-ing media or steel plate on the top deck. The Master-Flo XSscreens are heavy and have more powerful motors anddrives than a regular circular motion screen. Master-Flo XSscreens have been designed for screening immediatelyafter a primary crushing operation, allowing a maximumfeed size of up to 400 mm.Master-Flo CSThe Master-Flo CS (Classifi cation Screen) screens are intended for heavy-duty, medium andfi ne screening applications. The screens are circular motion inclined screens in two, threeand four deck designs. Standard inclination is 18-20 degrees, depending on the size of themachine. The decks can be equipped with any kind of modern screening media of polyure-thane and rubber, wire mesh or steel plate.The Master-Flo CS range of screens is built for general quarrying applications and with aseparation range from 80 mm to 2 mm. The maximum feed size is generally limited to 150 mm,depending somewhat on the selected screening media. The Master-F lo CS screens canalso be used as splitter screens to divide flows within a plant and are frequently used forfinal screening of finished fractions. The high adjustability and maintainability of the screens aresome of the main advantages. No extra space is required to maintain them, the mesh is easyto unbolt, and you can work on them in any type of environmental condition.Linel-FloThe horizontal Linel-F lo screen series has been purpose-designed for classification screening duties as well as forscalping ore ahead of a cone crusher in mining applica-tions. Linel-Flo screens are available with 1, 2 or 3 decksbut also with half decks as an option. Linel-F lo is an ex-cellent choice where the height is limited by surroundingfacilities, for the screening of small and short fractions andwhen heavy material is loaded on the screen. Linear orelliptical stroke improves the screening. Linel-F lo has amaximum feed size up to 300 mm and a separation rangefrom 100-1 mm.MSOThe MSO inclined screen has circular motion stroke in thecenter of the screen and elliptical stroke at the feed anddischarge end. The primary advantage of that is that itincreases the material speed at the feed end while at thesame time it decreases the material speed at the dischargeend. It is evident that the combined effect of these aspectswill result in a more accurate screening. Screens are avail-able with 1, 2 or 3 decks in the standard range of screensand half decks are available as an option. The MSO is aclassification screen just like the Linel-F lo screen. Themost signifi cant difference between these two units is thatthe MSO has only one vibrating mechanism. MSO has amaxmum feed size up to 300 mm and a separation of140-2 mm.Mechanism grizzlyThe MGS screens have been designed specifi cally for heavy scalping duties with the mainpurpose of removing fi nes from the feed before primary crushing. In conjunction with a facilityfor bypassing fi nes ahead of the crusher, MGS screens can be combined with Hydrostroke™feeders when heavy dump loads and high capacities are required.All MGS screens have their vibrating mechanism mounted under the feed pan. The doubleshaft mechanism generates an elliptical stroke, which consequently means better feeding aswell as a sustained material speed on the screen. MGS screens are available with 2, 3 and4 grizzly steps for the single deck models, depending on the size of the screen. The doubledeck models are equipped with three grizzly steps on the top deck and wire or rubbermedia on the bottom deck. The drive unit incorporates two motors with cardan shafts meaningthat neither gearbox nor gearwheels are necessary - the mechanism is self-synchronizing.The components of the mechanism are mainly the same as for the Linel-Flo and MSO screens.MGS has a maximum feed size up to 500 mm and a separation of up to 250 mm.LINEL-FLO, MSO & MGSMaintenance friendly, high-capacity screens6Linel-Flo, MSO and MGSAll dimensions are inside dimensions.Free-Flo™The main advantage of the Free-Flo screens is their ability to handle large loads of materialin comparison to their modest size. Free-Flo is often used instead of a slot sizer for removalof natural fi nes before crushers for separation of material for different crushing stages andfor final products of natural gravel, e.g., scalping, closedcircuit screening and fi nal product screening of gravel. Suit-able screening media are rubber, wire or plate elements forthe top deck, and wire mesh at the lower deck(s).The free-fall screening principle enables quick removalof large amounts of fi nes, using step deck inclination andeffective linear stroke almost perpendicular to the deck. Thefree-fall screening principle also gives low accuracy, as thevelocity of oversize particles is quite high, consequently eachparticle has a limited number of chances to pass a slot.The heavy-duty version of Free-Flo, FFx, is normally usedafter larger crushers, giving a maximum feed size of over150 mm. The three different frame models associatedwith the F ree-F lo range can be seen in the summary onthe right-hand page: F ree-F lo, S-version: Standard duty,F ree-F lo, H-version: Heavy-duty and F ree-F lo, X-version:Extra heavy-duty.Free-Classifi er™Free-Classifi ers share some of the same basic design prin-ciples of the F ree-F lo screen. The F ree-Classifier screenincorporates two different screening sections on each deck.This provides a free-fall action in the fi rst section and a moreaccurate stratifi cation in the second section. The result is acombination of the high capacity associated with free-fallscreening and the good separation accuracy known fromhorizontal screening. Another positive side effect is thecompactness of the machine.F ree-Classifiers are offered in three sizes, which are approximately 35 percent moreeffective than conventional screens in terms of a footprint area comparison. This fi gure will beeven greater with evaluation of a complete station, due to its lightweight design, consequentlygiving extremely low dynamic loads to the structure.FREE-FLO & FREE-CLASSIFIERFlexible free-fall screens8Free-fl o and Free-Classifi erThe free-fall screening principle ensures a free fl ow of material through all the decks. Free-Flo can be of much shorter construction and more compact than is the case with conventional screens.Free-Fall screening ensures that each stone can pass the screen early on. The cloth is always exposed to new material, without creating a bed of material.Free-Classifi er screens use free-fall screening without a bed on thefi rst part of each deck, but combine it with stratifi cation screening with a bed on the fi nal part. Therefore, Free-Classifi er screens combine quick fi nes removal and accurate sizing, making possible much shorter construction of the screen than with a conventional screen, but with the same width throughput capacity and screening accuracy.All dimensions are inside dimensions.Sandvik Roller screens are excellent for handling sticky material. All models are non-vibratingand very easy to dust and noise encapsulate.Roller GrizzlyThe Roller Grizzly (RSP) has been designed for scalping andscreening duties of low abrasive materials with an AbrasionIndex (Ai) below 0.03, such as limestone and coal. RollerGrizzly is compact and its ability to handle high capacitiesand moist material has been proven in many applications.Roller Grizzly is available for both primary and secondaryduties, depending on the maximum feed size.In order to achieve the best possible screening results it isimportant to spread the feed along the entire width of thescreen. The drop height of the material should be as lowas possible since the screen doesn’t sit on top of springs toabsorb the impact energy.Roller ScreensRoller Screens RSR, RSS and RSF have been primarily de-signed for coal and lignite screening. These screens aresuperior to vibrating equipment when the material is stickyand exhibits high moisture content. No vibration is trans-ferred to the support structure and the compact size andhigh capacity range make these screens highly competitive.Roller Screen RSR has been built for ROM (run of mine):coal screening. Roller Screen RSS is best used for second-ary applications: to screen washed coal. Roller Screen RSFfor 4-20 mm screening: screening in one dimension only.Roller Screen CrusherRoller Screen Crusher RSC has been purpose designed to remove impurities of commer-cial coal as well as to crush down existing coal lumps to acceptable sizes in coal-firedpower plants. Roller Screen Crusher comes complete with dust encapsulation, pre-screen,two crusher drums and after-screen. A pre-crusher might be necessary to put on top ofthe pre-screen if many lumps, such as frozen coal, are present. The crusher drums have areleasing mechanism to enable wood pieces, stones and other impurities to be rejected. Thesensitivity of the release mechanism is adjustable.ROLLER SCREENSYour choice for sticky material10Roller Grizzly, Roller Screen and Roller Screen CrusherScalping: 4-160 mm (i.e. limestone and coal)FLIP OVER TO FIND THE SCREEN SELECTION GUIDES C R E E N S E L E C T I O N G U I D EScreening duties:ScalpingScalping means that requirements for separation accuracy are low and feed rates high. Suitable machines for coarse scalping with separation > 100 mm are a vibrating grizzly feeder or an extra robust free-swinging, circular-motion screen with bar or pin grizzlies lined with heavy-duty rubber. Suitable machines for scalping of fi ner material with separation < 100 mm are a compact free-fall screen, a conventional Master-Flo or an MSO cir-cular motion screen with rubber elements. Closed-circuitClosed circuit screening normally means high capacities and “reasonable” accuracy require-ments. The separation size is often within 16 to 100 mm. Suitable machines are: a compact free-fall screen, a conventional Master-Flo or an MSO circular motion screen with rubber elements. Multiple decks are often used to reduce the bed thickness in applications with a large proportion of circulating material.Final fractioningThis duty requires a screen with good separation accuracy. Suitable machines for small separations <16 mm: a free-swinging linear/elliptical-motion Linel-Flo screen, a free fall Free-Classifi er screen or in some cases a circular-motion Master-F lo screen. We normally recommend wire or special rubber elements. When demands for separation accuracy are not too severe or if the frac-tions are longer, a free-swinging circular-motion screen can be selected. Polyurethane screening media is recommended for wet screening.。

Plants operating heated screens will have no trouble with excessive amounts of fine, dusty material that formerly sifted through reduced meshes on clogged screens.Service life of screen cloth is greatly increased when electric heating ends the punishment of old-fashioned cleaning methods, such as rough pounding or brushing. Blowtorch flames put too much heat in one spot and bouncing chains added to wear and tear. Changing heated screens does not involve more unbolting than needed for ordinary screens.In specifying screens to deliver a uniform particle through heated mesh, the first thing to consider is weight per square foot of the wire cloth needed to set up appropriate resistance. Most calculations are based on square openings. Slotted openings must be identified as to width of clear opening, diameter of wire and number of wires per inch before weight per square foot can be found in any screen cloth manufacturer's catalog.Having determined the usable weight per square foot of screen cloth, the next step is to select the size of clear opening needed, making no allowance for reduction in this size as formerly was the case when material stuck to the wires. Heated wires will maintain the clear opening at all times, making it possible to screen finer without blinding.From a wire catalog, select a mesh weighing no more per square foot (can weigh less) than determined using the method above with the clear opening characteristics desired. This often turns out to be a more efficient screen because the wire diameter will be smaller and the percentage of the open area will be greater.For example, where a 1/8-in. clear opening was desired (but often blinded) on unheated screens, the wire diameter was 0.63 and the open area was 44 percent. The cloth weighed 1.43 lb/ft. 2. For a heated 3- x 12-ft screen, the weight must not exceed1.1 lb/ft2. Two options were found in cloth with 1/8-in. clear opening: wire diameter .054 weighing 1.09 lb/ft2providing 48.8 percent open area; and wire diameter .047 weighing 0.85 lb/ft2 with a 52.8 percent open area.Load conditions may make fine diameters of carbon steel wire inadequate. In such cases, stainless steel wire of larger diameter with greater load-carrying capacity will have the necessary resistance for good heating.Lighter wire with more open area yields higher tonnage and heated mesh stays open 100 percent.
