《普通高中英语课程标准》（2017年版2020年修订）强调在主题下谈论语言、在语篇中理解语言、在文化中感受语言，高中学生面对文本的连续性、多样性等众多挑战，想要提高语言感受能力、语言运用的本领，往往无从下手。

笔者在教学中，以完整的学期为单位，探索性开展了英美文学鉴赏校本选修课，从英文文化起源、重要文学作品、主流思想流派等方面向学生展示英美文学的轮廓，使得学生英语语言的学习更具体，有目的的培养学生运用语言知识欣赏文学作品的能力，感受不同文化之间对人与自我、人与社会、人与自然的感悟[1]，促使学生更加热爱生活和自然，形成积极向上的人生观、价值观。

一、教学对象在为期不长的高中英语教学工作中，笔者发现，高中生英语学习的障碍已从单纯的单词记忆过渡到对文化的理解上。

有些英语语言现象，尤其是涉及到阅读题的理解中，文学素养的高低很大程度上对篇章理解的深浅有所影响。

新课标改革要求学生应当拓展课外阅读，增加经典文学的阅读量，某些学校在基础年级开设了一周一次的阅读课，但究其作用，可能最终沦落为阅读理解练习课。

或许有人质疑在高中阶段讲授英美文学是否太过专业化，有些学生接受不了。

诚然，即使在大学的英语专业学习英美文学这门必修课，也是需要2学期的时间，然而以校本课程选修课的形式在高中，尤其是高二年级开设英美文学鉴赏一课，笔者是有自己的考量的：高二的学生，正处于构建知识体系的关键期，他们经过了高一的过渡，基本上养成了适应高中的英语学习习惯，掌握了一些学习方法，词汇量上有了长足的进步，目前可谓是处于学习的瓶颈期，题海战术时而有之，学习动力不足的问题日益突出。

Unit 3 Under the sea【导读】《白鲸》(Moby Dick)是19世纪美国最著名的小说家之一赫尔曼·梅尔维尔于1851年发表的一篇海洋题材的小说，小说描写了亚哈船长为了追逐并杀死白鲸莫比·迪克，最终与白鲸同归于尽的故事。
