61. Bryan: What comes first, the customer or the profit?62. Olga: How important is an entrepreneur’s ambition to his/her company’s growth?63. Scott: How does an entrepreneur make use of his/her advantages?64. Anna: Why do successful entrepreneurs seem to enjoy their work?65. David: What attitude should an entrepreneur have toward his/her social responsibilities?ASheri PoeRyka Inc.Since I started this company in my kitchen seven years ago, I always dreamt of what it would be some day. Focusing on that goal helps me get through tough times. To get the kind of success that you want, you need to dream big. That’s the starting point. Every success story begins with big drea ms. You need to have big dreams for yourself, like being somebody rich, famous or fulfilled. You need to have a clear goal of what you want to achieve. Also, I think it’s really important that the people you’re working with are as committed to the same goal as you are, so you can support each other and keep each other energetic.BAnita RoddickThe Body Shop Inc.In America, we have a shop in Harlem where 50 percent of the profits go into the community development, and the other 50 percent go toward the funding of a similar shop elsewhere in the United States. The pride that shop brings to the staff and local people inspired me.What The Body Shop does successfully is use our facilities in the street and shopping centers to talk about real human issues like AIDS, recycling, human rights, and community service or to encourage people to speak out against anything they consider to be unjust. Knowing our products are symbols of social change is really encouraging.- 2CBen CohenBen & Jerry’s Homemade Inc.I’m energized by the people I work with. I’m very relationship-driven, which I think is different from most entrepreneurs. I’m inspired by do ing things that are not normal and that most people think don’t fit into the business world or don’t make any sense. In business, you are judged by the company you keep—from your management team, board of directors, and strategic partners. Maybe the lady you met in a trade association meeting can help you secure funding, or the gentleman at a conference can provide you with management advice.DRichard MelmanLettuce Entertain You EnterprisesA number of years ago, I was interviewed by someone who was writing a book on enterprises. He asked me, “What’s the opposite of work?” I answered, “Lazy.” He started laughing and said, “Believe it or not, a lot of entrepreneurs say the same thing.”The average person thinks the opposite of work is play, but to an entrepreneur, work is play. I think it all adds up to having fun. It’s fun to create; it’s fun to entertain, and it’s fun to make people happy with our service. When it stops being fun, I’ll stop doing it.EFrank Toskan- 3Make-Up Art Cosmetics (M.A.C)One of the nicest things anyone ever said to me was, “I hate makeup, but I love M.A.C.” That’s what moves me on. Even people who don’t wear makeup can appreciate our company, what it stands for, its values, and the way we do business. We work from an inverted pyramid, where the customers are always at the top. Our customers inspire me and keep me going. They and our staff, not money, make me enthusiastic. If I had stayed in this business just for the money, I would have closed down years ago.FKenneth ColeKenneth Cole Productions Inc.You can’t be everything to everybody. Each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses. To be effective, you need to identify your strengths and concentrate on them. You’ll become more successful if you are able to channel your efforts to areas that you do best. In business, for example, if you know you are good at marketing, then give it full play. Seek help or assistance in areas that you may be poor at, such as accounting or bookkeeping. To turn your weakness into strength, consider taking hands-on learning or training.题型解读信息匹配题的形式通常为“六选五”,即五个小题,给出六个选项,要求考生迅速抓住所给材料的大意和关键词句,根据题目所给的信息进行类比和筛选,快速找出与题目要求相匹配的选项。

1.This useful, popular book shows that if you are gone broke and lose love, please hold yourself back. If you look fat, just face it calmly. If you are in survival thinking, the most important is that you get rid of all the difficulties in front of us, life will be safe, perfect. If your daughters are to take their rightful place in society, they must become fearless.2.In this book, the author calls the nation’s leading experts on violent behavior, and shows you how to spot even tiny signs of danger before it’s too late. Most violent acts are unpredictable. It points out that true fear is often a signal that can save your life. Believe the threat of violence surrounds us every day. But we can protect ourselves by straight judgment.3.This book based on his years of clinical experience. It says about twenty-five million Americans take medicine to avoid depression. Despite the advances in the treatment of depression in recent years, many patients, even with the best medical care, feel that they are not living rich and fulfilling lives. This book will direct you how to survive well.4.This interesting book tells us that annoyance is as much a political matter as a biological one. And anger is a definite message: Pay attention to me. I don’t like what you are doing. Restore my pride. You’re in my way. Give me justice. This book suggests that when you’re angry, ju st let it right out.5.This valuable book states that nervousness has become a constant factor in today’s society like a sign of the times, but it is sometimes difficult to recognize the effects of anxiety on our mental health. The only way to feel better about ourselves is to go out and do it.1-5 BEADF。

第1—5题是五位人士针对“孩子玩电脑或电子游戏会影响他们的个性发展吗”的观点,从A-F中选出相应的陈述与之匹配,选项中有一项是多余选项。
1. Parents need to watch the time their kids spend on computer or video games.2. The effect of playing computer or video games on a child is different but it isthere.3. Computer or video games do affect children’s social development because theyare not playing in reality.4. If you have heard of online gaming, then you know video games can affect socialdevelopment in a good way.5. I’m living proof that computer or video games won’t do harm to kids.A. For a lot of children, computers and video games are just an escape from reality, taking them away from real life for a while, replacing a stressful or boring environment with sights and sounds kids could only imagine before. They have the ability of entertaining people’s minds while drawing in the whole attention away from real life. So the result will be like this: whenever a child can’t handle problems in real life, he might just turn to computer games.B. Reading Tom Sawyer or Harry Porter is as personal an act as playing an onlinegame or even more personal than playing an online or two-player game. I’ve rarely seen two people happily reading ONE book together. But when kids play online games they need to work together and it encourages the development of social skills.C. Many results can occur from playing video games, from feeling abandoned andbecoming addicted to getting better in touch with what other students are doing.Th e question here is whether or not video games affect a child’s development, not if it is good or bad. Anything that you interact with is going to have an effect on your development.D. People blame the computer and videos, because it is an easy target to hit. Ifyou really wanna look at people being lonely, look at the school system, where teachers could easily fix the problem by doing more group work with him/her choosing the students for the group. I mean, I could play outside by myself and still be lon ely. There isn’t a difference.E. I do believe our children’s development is affected by computers and video gameplay if too much time is spent because that’s time that a child used to be playingoutside with other children. I think that some computer work is good because it trains the brain in new patterns, but time on the computer need to be limited and playing outside should be encouraged.F. I am 6 feet 2 inches, 185 lbs, all muscle. I’m one of the most popular students and I’ve had a constant 30+ hour s of video games since I was in third grade. I played baseball all my life until high school, and still managed up to 40+ hours of video games. I am around the 80th position in my grade and have received many honors. So it’s not necessary that computer games affect a kid’s development in a bad way. It simply depends on how much exactly one plays, and how one manages their time.1. E。

But today, Kiss performs for a new type of audience in waters off the coast of Australia: great white sharks. The concert, presented by Airbnb, is part of a 12-hour tour to an offshore location near Port Lincoln, Australia, which is known as a feeding ground for great white sharks. Rather than using the traditional “chum”— fish parts and blood in the water to attract the sharks — organizers hope the music will draw them in.This admittedly “over-the-top experience” was created “to educate people and show them that sharks are worthy of respect and protection,”according to Airbnb. Throughout the day, concertgoers will observe sharks and other marine life in their natural habitat. The on-going, driving beat of rock music —especially the dense, bass-thrumming beats of hard rock and heavy metal —can attract wild sharks in the open ocean, as Matt Waller, shark tour operator and owner of Adventure Bay Charters in Australia, discovered in 2011.Waller had heard from a shark tour colleague who experimented with underwater speakers that the sharks behaved differently in the presence of music —particularly rock music. Over time, Waller tried many types of music, with varying degrees of success in attracting sharks. In 2015, when the Discovery Channel filmed Waller playing heavy metal underwater, the music attracted the attention of two great white sharks: one was 12 feet long, and one was 14 feet long. Now, Waller is partnering with Airbnb to broadcast Kiss' music togreat whites. While the Kiss show is certainly an unusual approach for bringing people and sharks together, perhaps the common ground of rock and roll will encourage a greater awareness of sharks as creatures that are vital to ocean ecosystems and deserving of respect rather than fear, Waller told Li v e Science.4.Why does Kiss hold the concert?A.To confirm a former experiment.B.To change human attitudes to music.C.To introduce the sharks to the public.D.To encourage positive awareness of sharks.5.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.The performers. B.The concertgoers.C.The sharks. D.The tourists.6.Which of the following may Matt Waller agree?A.Shark tours should be prohibited.B.Rock music can attract wild sharks.C.Humans should keep away from sharks.D.The Kiss approach is not worth following.7.What can be the best title of the text?A.Great White Sharks Get a Concert from KissB.Rock Band Kiss Holds a Concert in AustraliaC.Great White Sharks Care about MusicD.Airbnb Comes into Rock-roll MarketC[2020·陕西省百校联盟第一次模拟]As ice melts in West Antarctica, the ground beneath is quickly rising —a process that could prevent the catastrophic (灾难性的) collapse of ice sheets, according to researchers.A study published in the journal Science provides a glimmer (一丝) of hope for a region affected by climate change. In recent years, several studies have warned that the ice sheet, which contributes to a quarter of melted ice worldwide annually, is very easy to break up. Scientists fear even slightly melting could cause global sea levels to rise by 3 meters.Researchers at the Technical University of Denmark set out to answer how the bedrock underneath the ice sheet of West Antarctica behaves as the ice melts. To study the land, the team analyzed data collected by high-precision GPS equipment positioned on remote rock formations in West Antarctica, which measured movements of the land down to the millimeter over a 10-year period.“After a heroic effort to install and maintain the network of sensors in one of the least accessible places on the planet, the team has beenrewarded with incredibly valuable data, which tell an incredible story about the Earth,” wrote Valentina Barletta. The team found that the Earth was pushing the bedrock to rise faster than expected. In 2014, the surface rose by 41 millimeters: four to five times quicker than predicted. In 100 years, the land could be up to 10 meters higher than it is currently. It is hoped that as the ice melts, the Earth's crust (地壳) will bounce back much faster than previously expected. In turn, this could stabilize what the researchers described as the “catastrophic collapse” of the ice sheet.Barletta told Ne w s w eek the ice sheet will never be stable if global warming becomes too extreme. “Reducing the greenhouse gas will give the ice sheet a better chance of survival because that would allow some known and unknown feedback to create better conditions for the ice,” she said.8.What happens to West Antarctica as ice melts?A.The ground beneath is getting taller.B.Its ice sheets break up completely.C.Global sea levels rise by 3 meters.D.Climate change comes to an end.9.Why do researchers use high-precision GPS equipment?A.To find out whether the ice sheet is very easy to break up.B.To find out the connection between the bedrock and ice melting.C.To find out what really affects the speed of ice melting.D.To find out when West Antarctica will disappear totally.10.How did the research team feel about the study result?A.Disappointed. B.Sorry.C.Surprised. D.Angry.11.What should we do for the ice sheet's survival?A.Stop the bedrock from rising.B.Install more high-precision GPS equipment.C.Create more ice for the ice sheet.D.Cut down the greenhouse gas.D[2020·福州市高三毕业班适应性练习卷]As a kid, Joanna Buckley wasn't interested in science —until she had a chance to try it. That happened when she got a chemistry set as a gift.“Over the course of a few weeks, I'd completed every experiment. But in the process, I polluted my parent's dining room carpet and burnt thekitchen worktop with the spirit burner,” she says. Now science is Buckley's job. She works in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Sheffield in England. “I realize, first-hand, how important it is to have something or someone to show you why science is so great,” she says. Now the good news is that citizen science appears.Citizen science takes the fun of experimenting a step further than Buckley's at-home experiments. That's because these experiments are real, looking for novel answers.“Compared with a one-off experiment, what's cool about citizen science is that students get that this has a purpose,” says Amy Prunuske, who teaches microbiology and immunology at a medical college. “Students want to do a good job, because they know scientists are going to use the new data in their own research.”Jennifer Long's job is to coordinate (协调) education and outreach. She agrees with Prunuske. “Kids like that it's real. And they like that it's important, and that it matters.”Citizen science projects have made big discoveries. One found a previously unknown galaxy cluster (星系团). Another project helped assess how much damage a big earthquake had caused in Japan. And one of the first citizen science projects helped scientists learn where monarch butterflies go every winter. Some adults worry about teens losing interest in science. They hope that fun, exciting citizen science projects can help them keep engaged, Long says. 浙江省2012高考英语二轮复习专题训练:信息匹配(40)
阅读下列应用文及相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。
阅读下列文章,并从选项A—F中为每篇文章选择合适的标题。
选项中有一项是多余选项。
1. ______ With the arrival of the age of “information economy”, intellectual
work is becoming a more important source of wealth than manufacturing.
Organizations in all walks of life are doing more to spread their information.
So people of the Public Relations are hired to speak for them. A lot of our news is actually collected from press releases and reports of events intentionally staged for journalists. In the information age, journalists spend their time, not investigating, but passing on the words of a spokesperson.
2. ______ There is a joke in the novel Scoop about the newspaper’s owner, Lord
Copper. The editors can never disagree with him. When he’s right about something they answer “definitely”, and when he’s wrong they say “to some extent, Lord Copper.” It seems reasonable to suppose that, in the real world, the opinions of such powerful people still influence the journalists and editors who work for them.
3. ______ In countries where the news is not officially controlled, it is likely
to be provided by commercial organizations who depend on advertising. The news has to attract viewers and maintain its audience ratings. I suspect that some stories get air-time just because there happen to be exciting pictures to show.
In Britain, we have the tabloid newspapers(小报) which millions of people read simply for entertainment. There is increasingly less room for historical background, or statistics, which are harder to present as a sensational story.
4. ______ There is an argument that with spreading access to the internet and
cheap technology for recording sound and images we will all be able to find exactly the information we want. People around the world will be able to publish their own eye-witness accounts and compete with the widely-accepted news-gatherers on equal terms. But what it will mean also is that we’ll be subjected to a still greater amount of nonsense and lies. Any web log may contain the latest information of the year, or equally, a made-up story that you will never be able to check.
5. ______ Maybe the time has come to do something about it, and I don’t just
mean changing your choice of TV channel or newspaper. In a world where everyone wants you to listen to their version, you only have two choices: switch off altogether or start looking for sources you can trust. The investigative
journalist of the future is everyone who wants to know the truth.
