Over her bald (秃的) head, she wore a pink hat that matched her clothes. But the third grader’s cheery dressing didn’t mask her pain and weary eyes. Then a visitor showed up. ―Do you want to write a song?‖ asked Anita Kruse, 49, rolling a cart equipped with an electronic keyboard, a microphone and speakers. Simran stared. ―Have you ever written a poem?‖ Anita Kruse continued. ―Well, yes,‖ Simran said.Within minutes, Simran was reading her poem into the microphone. ―Some bird soaring through the sky,‖ she said softly. ―Imagination in its head…‖ Anita Kruse added piano music, a few warbling (鸣, 唱) birds, and finally the girl’s voice. Thirty minutes later, she presented Simran with a CD of her first recorded song. That was the beginning of Anita Kruse’s project, Purple Songs Can Fly, one that has helped more than 125 young patients write and record songs. As a composer and pianist who had performed at the hospital, Kruse said that the idea of how she could help ―came in one flash‖.The effect on the kids has been great. One teenage girl, curling (蜷缩) in pain in her wheelchair, stood unaided to dance to a hip-hop song she had written. A 12-year-old boy with Hodgkin’s disease who rarely spoke surprised his doctors with a song he called I Can Make It.―My time with the kids is heartbreaking because of the severity of their illnesses,‖ says Anita Kruse. ―But they also make you happy, when the children are smiling, excited to share their CD with their families.‖Simran is now an active sixth grader and cancer-free. From time to time, she and her mother listen to her song, Always Remembering, and they always remember the ―really sweet and niceand loving‖ lady who gave them a shining moment in the dark hour.59.Simran Jatar lay in bed in hospital because ______.A. most of her hair had fallen outB. she was receiving treatment for cancerC. she felt depressed and quit from schoolD. she was suffering from a pain in her back60.What do we know about Anita Kruse’s project?A. The project has positive effect on young patients.D. Singing is the best way to treat some illnesses.62. What is probably the best title for the passage?A. Purple Songs Can FlyB. Singing Can Improve HealthC. A Shining Moment in LifeD. A Kind Woman—Anita KruseCHigh Speed Book ScannerSimply turning pages of a book quickly may not seem like the best way to scan it. A Japanese research group at Tokyo University has created new software that allows hundreds of pages to be scanned within minutes. Scanning text is normally a boring process with each page having to be inserted into a scanner, but the team led by Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa uses a high speed camera that takes 500 pictures a second to scan pages as they are turned by workers.Normal scanners can only scan the information that is actually before them on the page. This high speed book scanner uses a camera that captures pages at 1000fps as they are turned. A system built in allows it to automatically correct any changes to the text due to the page bending as well as light differences due to shadows. ―It takes a shot of the shape, then it calculates the shape and uses those calculations to film the scanning,‖Ishikawa said, explaining the system used to reconstruct the original page. The current system is able to scan an average 250-page book in a little over 60 seconds using basic computer hardware. While it now requires extra time to process the scanned images (影像), the researchers hope to eventually make the technology both faster and much smaller. ―In the more distant future, once it becomes possible to put all of this processing on one chip (芯片) and thenput that in an iPad or iPod, one could scan just using that chip. At that point, it becomes possible to scan something quickly to save for later reading,‖ Ishikawa said.Being able to scan books with an iPhone may be further off, but Ishikawa says that a commercial version of the large-scale computer based scanning system could be available in two or three years. While the technology has the potential to take paper books into the digital age, it remains to be how publishers will react to people scanning their books while just turning pages quickly.63. According to the passage, the advantage of the new scanning software is that ______.A. there is no need to scan every pageB. it can work much more effectivelyC. no manpower is needed in operating the scannerD. it can make the scanning process more interesting64. According to Ishikawa, the scanner works by_____.A. changing the shape of the imagesB. reducing the size of the imagesC. reconstructing the original pageD. scanning several pages at the same time65. What is Ishikawa’s attitude towards the development of the scanning system?A. Optimistic.B. Uncertain.C. Disapproving.D. Cautious.66. What does the underlined sentence mean?A. People will get any book they like more easily.B. Publishers will refuse to comment on the new software.C. Publishers will probably not welcome the new software.D. People won’t need to buy books any more with an iPhone.DVisitors to museums have to pay ―voluntary‖ admi ssion fees, Boris Johnson, the mayor (市长) of London, urged yesterday. He said that encouraging visitors to set a value on museums and art galleries, which have been free since 2001, would work extremely well. Mr. Johnson held up New York’s Metropoli tan Museum of Art as a model. Although New Yo rk’s museums are officially free, visitors are strongly encouraged to pay a recommended entry fee of $20. At the Met, entry is impossible without first going to the ticket desk.Mr. Johnson’s spokesman later admitted that free admission was a ―huge draw‖ for London, but he said, ―Having visited the Met last week, the mayor is impressed by how they maximize voluntary contributions and believes there are lessons to be lear nt.‖ Mark Jones, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum, told The Times that the museum already requested a £3 donation but was not as forceful as New York’s institutions. He said, ―I’m not in favor of anything that makes people feel they won’t want to go because they feel like they will have to pay.‖When entrance fees to national museums were decided not to be charged here in 2001, there was a 70 percent increase in visitor numbers in the first year. Political parties have since been unwilling to suggest change, despite concerns about cost. Hugo Swire, the former Shadow Culture Secreta ry, was dismissed in 2007 for suggesting that ―museums and galleries should have the right to charge if they wish‖.Some in the art community argue, however, that free entrance has done little to increase the breadth (广泛) of visitors and has caused shortfalls in the budget for the museums. In response to it, Colin Tweedy, chief executive of Arts & Business, said that Britain was ―leading the world‖ in allowing its treasures to be freely available. He said, ―To return to museum charging would be a return to the dark ages.‖Ben Bradshaw, the Culture Secretary, said, ―The mayor revealed his true intention when he suggested those who could afford it should be encouraged to contribute to the arts. I believe it is a disaster for the culture, arts and sport.‖ He thinks that free museums and galleries have once been one of this Government’s great successes.67. It can be inferred from the first two paragraphs that ______.A. museums in London are free by nowB. most museums in London have admission feesC. Metropolitan Museum of Art is not officially freeD. free entry is impossible to New York’s museums68. We can learn from Mark Jones’ words that ______.A. his museum shows a lack of moneyB. admission fees should be forcefulC. he is in favor of New York’s actionD. he has a consideration for the visitors69. According to the passage, the cancellation of entrance fees to national museums in 2001 _____.A. was changed in 2007 by Hugo SwireB. has been opposed by political partiesC. has no influence on the number of visitorsD. has caused financial problems to the museums70.What does the underlined word ―it‖ in the last paragraph refer to?A. Charging entrance fees to museums.B. Decrease in the number of visitors.C. Ensuring visitor s’ benefits.D. Free access to museums.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容, 从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

He uses all his strength so that he sweats all over. As we know, time always goes forward and we can‟t slow it down or stop it. Once gone, it can‟t come back to us for ever. As the saying goes,“T im e and tide wait for no man.” So people should treasure and make full use of it to do something useful. As students, we are supposed to make a good plan for every day, studying hard and taking part in meaningful activities. Only in this way will we not be regretful in the future.高三英语试题第1页(共16页)高三英语试题第2页(共16页)高三英语试题第3页(共16页)高三英语试题第4页(共16页)高三英语试题第5页(共16页)北京市东城区2012年高三一模英语试题参考答案及评分标准2012.4第二部分:知识运用(共两节,45分)第一节单项填空(共15小题;每小题1分,共15分)21.B 22.A 23.A 24.C 25.C 26.B 27.B 28.A 29.B 30.D31.C 32.A 33.D 34.D 35.C第二节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,共30分)36.B 37.C 38.D 39.A 40.B 41.C 42.D 43.D 44.A 45.A46.C 47.C 48.B 49.D 50.B 51.D 52.C 53.B 54.A 55.A第三部分:阅读(共两节,40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分, 共30分)56.C 57.A 58.D 59.D 60.C 61.C 62.A 63.B 64.B 65.C66.A 67.D 68.C 69.B 70.B第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 共10分)71.A 72.C 73.G 74.B 75.F高三英语试题第6页(共16页)第四部分:书面表达(共两节,35分)第一节情景作文(20分)One possible version:Last winter, we carried out an activity themed “Helping the Children in the Hope Primary School in Tibet”. In the class meeting, we watched CCTV news and learned about what the life of the children there was like and all of us were shocked. So we decided to do our bit. We put up some posters on the school notice board and gave out the handouts to the schoolmates. The next day, many students took part in the donation on the playground. Some donated their pocket money and some brought their new clothes and quilts. After that, we went to the post office to mail the donations to Tibet. We are more than glad to have such kind of activities, for we not only set up the bridge of friendship with the children in Tibet but also show our love to the children there.第二节开放作文(15分)One possible version:As can be seen in the picture, a boy is sitting in front of a scale. He‟s put one box on one side of the scale, two on the other, making the scale lose its balance. The picture seems to convey us a message that laying much more emphasis on one thing will probably prevent the development of other things. Just like the scale in the picture, one extra box on one side will definitely result in unbalance. There are many similar phenomena in our life. Take us high school students for example. Faced with the pressure from school work, like the boy putting one extra box on one side of the scale, we tend to spend much more time on our studies than on the physical exercise. However, how can one keep healthy without enough exercise? In my opinion, what our society needs is that people develop both mentally and physically. To achieve success in the future, we should always keep our development balanced.高三英语试题第7页(共16页)海淀区高三年级第二学期期中练习英语参考答案及评分标准2012. 04 第一节单项填空(共15小题;每小题1分,共15分)21. B 22. B 23. A 24. A 25. C 26. C 27. Upon arrival, we were divided into several groups and our coach introduced the course to us. Shortly afterwards, we got involved in various activities. One of them was jumping across a broken bridge. I was afraid at first, but with the encouragement of the coach, I finally made it. What impressed me most was climbing over a wall to “escape.” We helped one another and all of us managed to “survive.”Before we left the centre, we had a photo taken to record the unforgettable experience, which gave us a good chance to build up courage and improve our sense of teamwork.三、Possible versionsIn the picture, a man on a boat is searching for some fish with a telescope. However, his efforts do not pay off, for the net is still empty. Amusingly, a school of fish is swimming just nearby, but he completely ignores them. What the picture conveys is that we should never aim too high, neglecting the readily attainable goal. If the man stopped focusing on the distant waters and looked around, the fish near the boat would be an easy harvest for him. This is not uncommon in our daily life. When we aim to build one ridiculously large project, we complete nothing; when we aim for a small goal, we complete it. Let‟s be more practical.高三英语试题第8页(共16页)高三英语试题第9页(共16页)高三英语试题第10页(共16页)高三英语试题第11页(共16页)高三英语试题第12页(共16页)。

Whenever I was "bad" , you'd shake your finger at me and ask : " How could you?"—but then you'd give up, and roll me over for a belly scratch and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. My housetraining was a long process, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. We went for long walks, runs in the park and car rides. We stopped for ice cream. I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a humanmate. Eventually, you fell in love. She, now your wife, is riot a dog person, but I still welcomed her into our home.I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement, I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them too. Your wife was afraid I would bite them. But nevertheless, as they began to grow, I became their friend. Now, you have a new job in another city and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family" , but there was a time when I was your only family.I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the dog pound. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said:"I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. The children were in tears as they waved me goodbye. And "How could you?" were the only three words that swept over my mind.Is it better to live with hope or without hope? At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you, that you had changed your mind and that this was all a bad dream. My beloved master, I will think of you and wait for you forever. Be faithful to those who love you.BPresent or Future?Americans are future-minded. They really live in the future. The present is just a way station. This enthusiasm for the future is really not shared even by all European countries. The French are known to be present-minded while the British are often called past-minded. For Japanese Zen followers, time is like a pool of water. Things just happen. There is no past, present or future. Egyptians are well known for their past mindedness.I did not grow up with a telephone. So the Yellow Pages were something brand new for me when I firstarrived in the U. S. I still had the habit of going to a store only to find out that it didn't have what I needed. My wife used to ask , "Didn't you call before going there?" The concept of calling ahead of time requires planning and a future mind, while my upbringing was in a present-minded culture. One thing my nuclear family enjoys when my mom visits is her cooking. So normally I ask my mom a couple of days in advance what things she needs for the upcoming meals. She is always sure that she has everything. The truth is that many times, in the middle of cooking, she will ask for items we don't have. That shows a present mind. You deal with it when you get there instead of doing advanced planning.Listening to weather forecasts and then living your life accordingly is a sign of a future mind. Normally, when I get to work and see everyone walking around with their umbrellas, I figure that it will rain today. Here people are trained from their childhood to figure out at least that day's expected weather before leaving the house.I am normally missing my umbrella because it was not raining and the sky did not have dark clouds. Here my present mind gets me wet every time.Mainstream Americans have put inside themselves the clock to a degree which is beyond the comprehension of many cultures across the globe. So the annoyance many Americans face when working with people from other cultures is understandable. In today's dialogue, building the bridge to the 21st century may turn out to be easier than building bridges with other cultures, which may appear to be so foreign. However, they are vital partners for our interdependent life on this planet.60. The author was most likely born in ____.A. AmericaB. FranceC. BritainD. Egypt61. Which is true about the author?A. He was more future-minded than his mother.B. He received most of his education in Japan.C. He learned to check the weather before going out.D. He disliked calling the store before going shopping.62. What's the main idea of the last paragraph?A. Americans value time more than any other culture.B. Americans should be understood by other cultures.C. Communication between cultures is easier than before.D. Harmony should be achieved despite cultural differences.CA woman in the US is able to speak for the first time in 11 years after a pioneering voice box transplant (移植).Brenda Jensen said the operation was a great success which had saved her life. Thirteen days after the surgery she said her first words: "Good morning, I want to go home." It is the first time a voice box and windpipe have been transplanted at the same time and only the second time a voice box has ever been transplanted.Ms. Jensen, 52, had been unable to speak on her own since her voice box was damaged during surgery in 1999. Since then, she has been unable to taste or smell food, could breathe only through a hole in her windpipe and could talk only with the help of an electronic voice box.In October, surgeons at the University of California Davis Medical Centre removed the voice box and 6cm of the windpipe from a donor body. In an 18-hour operation, this was transplanted into Ms. Jensen's throat and the team connected it to her blood supply and nerves(神经).Professor Martin Birch-all from University College London, who was part of the surgery team, said: "We've learned that we can repair nerves to make even very complex organs function again. It'll open the door to better facial transplants and will be extremely important as tissue engineering develops."A voice box transplant might be life changing, but it is not life saving. Everyone who receives a transplant must take drugs to control the immune system(免疫系统)for the rest of their lives. These drugs can reduce life expectancy, so they are normally set aside for life saving procedures. One of the reasons Ms. Jensen was a suitable person for this transplant was that she was already taking immune controlling drugs after a kidney-pancreas transplant four years ago. Professor Peter Belafsky , part of the surgical team, said:"Brenda was an exceptional candidate for the transplant because she was highly motivated. Anyone who's met Brenda knows that she is a strong and determined person with a great outlook on life in spite of the many physical challenges she's faced over her lifetime.63. The voice transplant operation is of great significance because it proves that ____.A. facial transplants are now easier to performB. new medical technology is always possible to discoverC. nerve repairing is a breakthrough in tissue engineeringD. the drugs taken after the operation help the patient live longer64. Ms. Jensen was a suitable person for this transplant because she was ____.A. strong-willed and preparedB. experienced and braveC. seriously ill and motivatedD. determined and realistic65. Which of the following is the right time order of the event?A. Ms. Jensen received a voice box transplant operation.B. Ms. Jensen began to take immune controlling drugs.C. Doctors removed the voice box from a donor body.D. Ms. Jensen had a kidney-pancreas transplant operation.A. Ac-dbB. Db-caC. Bd-caD. ca-bd66. Which is the best title for the passage?A. Transplant Saves A Woman's LifeB. Overcoming Obstacles to Speak AgainC. First Words from New V oice BoxD. Courageous Woman Defeating FearsD"Wanna buy a body? "That was the opening line of more than a few phone calls I got from self-employed photographers when I was a photo editor at U. S. News. Like many in the mainstream press, I wanted to separate the world of photographers into "them", who trade in pictures of bodies or run after famous people like Princess Diana, and "us", the serious news people. But after 16 years in that role, I came to wonder whether the two worlds were easily distinguishable.Working in the reputable world of journalism, I told photographers to cover other people's difficult life situations. I justified marching into moments of sadness, under the appearance of the reader's right to know. I worked with professionals talking their way into situations or shooting from behind police lines. And I wasn't alone. In any American town, after a car crash or some other horrible incident when ordinary people are hurt or killed, you rarely see photographers pushing past rescue workers to take photos of the blood and injuries. But you are likely to see local newspaper and television photographers on the scene –and fast ...How can we justify doing this? Journalists are taught to separate, doing the job from worrying about the consequences of publishing what they record. Repeatedly, they are reminded of a news-business saying: Leave your conscience in the office, A victim may lie bleeding, unconscious, or dead. Your job is to record the image (图象). You're a photographer, not an emergency medical worker. You put away your feelings and document the scene. But catastrophic events often bring out the worst in photographers and photo editors. In the first minutes and hours after a disaster occurs, photo agencies buy pictures. They rush to obtain the rights to be the only one to own these shocking images and death is usually the subject. Often, an agency buys a picture from a local newspaper or an amateur photographer and puts it up for bid by major magazines. The most sought-after special pictures command tens of thousands of dollars through bidding contests.I worked on all those stories and many like them. When they happen, you move quickly: buying, dealing, trying to beat the agencies to the pictures. Now, many people believe journalists are the hypocrites(伪君子)who need to be brought down, and it's our pictures that most anger others. Readers may not believe, as we do, that there is a distinction betweenclear-minded "us" and mean-spirited "them". In too many cases, by our choices of images as well as how we get them, we prove our readers right.67. When journalists are working, they are told to ____.A. work with their conscienceB. respect the privacy of the victimC. separate their work from feelingsD. ask police for permission to take photos68. The 5th and 6th paragraphs mainly tell us that ____.A. speed determines the success of a news storyB. photo agencies are greedier than serious news-peopleC. photographers have free access to photos of accidentsD. profit is the driving force behind the competition for photos69. It can be learned from the last paragraph that serious news-people ____.A. obtain photos differently from news agenciesB. are no better than self-employed photographersC. are more devoted to work than non-professionalsD. have a higher moral standard than self-employed photographers70. The underlined word "them" in the last paragraph refers to____.A. photo editorsB. photo agenciesC. serious news-peopleD. self-employed photographersClaustrophobiaClaustrophobia, or fear of enclosed spaces, is one of the most common fears. Claustrophobia can be deep fear or even panic as a result of being in a small space.Claustrophobia can develop after a troubling childhood experience(such as being trapped in a small space during a childhood game), or from another unpleasant experience later on in life related to small spaces(such as being stuck in a lift). _71 This response then becomes programmed in the brain, making an association between being in a tight space and feeling anxious or out-of-control. As a result, the person often develops claustrophobia.According to Mark Powers, Ph. D. , Associate Professor of Psychology at Southern Methodist University," Claustrophobia is a specific fear and not a type of panic disorder. The primary specific danger forecasts for claustrophobia are that either the person will be trapped or run out of air."72 Claustrophobia symptoms can include: sweating, accelerated heartbeat, upset stomach, passing out,light-headedness, shaking, breathing problem, etc. Some common situations can cause anxiety in claustrophobia sufferers. The claustrophobia sufferer will look for an exit when inside a room, avoid driving on the highway or major roads where there is heavy traffic when inside a car, avoid taking lifts when inside a building, or stand near a door when at a party. 73 Claustrophobia can have harmful social and psychological effects, since the patient will often avoid situations in which she thinks she will have an anxiety attack, leading to hiding and sadness.74 According to Dr. Powers, " Exposure treatment, a form of mind-behavioral treatment, usually results ina total reduction in anxiety symptoms if conducted properly."Flooding is a type of exposure treatment in which the person is exposed to a situation until the anxiety attack passes; a less extreme form of exposure treatment is counter-conditioning. Counter conditioning includes behavior treatment, as the person is taught visualization and relaxation techniques before being slowly reintroduced to the cause situation.75 Medications to help treat claustrophobia include things which help to ease the heart pounding often associated with anxiety attacks.A. The good news is that claustrophobia is very treatable.B. The past experience can trace back to the moment of birth.C. According to some doctors, claustrophobia is worse than the fear of heights.D. When a person experiences such an event, it can often cause a frightening panic attack.E. In extreme cases, the very sight of a closed door can lead to feelings of anxiety in a person.F. Treatment for claustrophobia can also include medication or a combination of several treatments.G.. When a person with claustrophobia finds herself in a restricted space, her body responds in certain ways.第四部分:书面表达(共两节,35分)第一节情景作文(20分)假设你是红星中学高二(1)班的学生李华,上周你和爸爸去看望了你们资助了两年的贫困学生小明。

二、One possible version:
For two years my family has been supporting Xiao Ming, a boy from a poor family.
Last weekend my father and I went to visit him again. Early in the morning we set off, and soon we were on a country road. I paid little attention to the scenery on the way, for my mind was already there with Xiao Ming. After a two-hour drive, we arrived at Xiao Ming’s home. At that moment, Xiao Ming was working in the garden, while his grandfather was sitting in the sun. We were excited to see each other. Immediately, they invited us to rest in their house. Once inside, we gave him some books and a schoolbag. Grateful and moved, Xiao Ming showed us his excellent school work, which impressed us greatly. We talked so happily that we didn’t realize it was time to leave. Xiao Ming and his grandfather saw us off at the village entrance and we waved goodbye to them, promising to come back again.
I really feel happy about what we did that day. By helping others, we ourselves actually gain a lot.

二、One possible version:
In the picture, we can see two turnips, one with small leaves and the other with large ones. Naturally, we may expect the turnip with larger leaves to have a bigger root. However, according to the picture, the bigger the leaves above the ground are, the smaller the root underground is. Quite ironic, isn’t it?
I think the picture reveals this truth: we should never judge things simply by their physical appearance. As a matter of fact, in our daily life, there exist many “small turnips with big leaves”. For example, a present wrapped in a delicate box turns out to be of poor quality, or a girl with a beautiful face acts rudely in public places. Therefore, let’s learn not to be misled by “large leaves”. Remember: it is “root s”, something inside, but not “leaves”, outside appearance, that really matters.
