Please find the sentences of Inversion in the reading passage on page 26.In a while, get the students to say the sentences. Then show the answers on the screen. Never will Zhou Yang forget his first assignment at the office of a popular English newspaper.Only when you have seen what he or she does, can you cover a story by yourself. Not only am I interested in photography, but I took a course at university, so it’s actually of special interest to me.Only if you ask many different questions will you acquire all the information you need to know.Step 2 Explanation and SummaryT: Well, class, now I’d like to explain something about the inverted se ntences so that you can have a better understanding of Inversion. Sometimes the order of the subject and the verb is reversed after the following adverbial elements:1) Adverbial expressions of negation or near negation with no, not, never, neither, seldom, scarcely, rarely, barely and hardly, etc.The same reversal of word order takes place after negative conjunctions like neither, nor, not only ... but also, no sooner ... than.e.g. In no case can an exception be made.Never have I seen such a stupid person. Not until he loses all his money will he stop gambling.Scarcely had he entered the room when he was knocked down by a stranger. Not only is she beautiful, but she is also very intelligent.I cannot attend the meeting tonight, and neither can my wife.2) Adverbial expressions with onlye.g. Only after an operation will he be able to walk again.Only once has he done such a thing.3) Adverbial expressions with soe.g. So greatly did he admire the beautiful actress he asked her to marry him.The word order is also reversed after the conjunction so.e.g. I caught a cold, and so did my wife.4) Adverbial expressions of placee.g. There stood the tallest man he had ever seen.Inside the room were a few pieces of furniture. But when the subject is a pronoun instead of a noun, the order should not be inverted.e.g. Here he comes.Off he ran.5) Other adverbials in initial positione.g. Loud and clear rang the bells.Often did we sit together without saying a word.Step 3 PracticeT: To understand the Grammar better, we’ll do some practice. Now turn to page 29. Please do Exercises 2-4 on your own. After the students finish, check the answers. Then deal with Exx. 1 & 2 on page 64 and check the answers.Step 4 ConsolidationPresent the following exercises on the screen.T: Now let’s do more exercises to see how well you have grasped Inversion.1. —Do you know Jim quarreled with his brother?—I don’t know, ______.A. nor don’t I careB. nor do I careC. Unit 4 Making the news【美文阅读】你认为作为一名记者最需要的品质是什么?是合作意识还是写作技巧?To be a journalistWorking as part of a team is common in many mediajobs. It is important that you can get on and work quicklyand efficiently with the other technical and creativeproduction team staff.Time is very literally (真正地)money in mediaproduction so there is no room for staff difficulties.Whenthere are tough deadlines or late nights everyone must pulltogether to complete the task at hand.An employer will wantto know that you can meet these demands and that you can establish a working relationship very quickly with people who you may be meeting for the first time. You also need good written and oral communication skills and must have a crisp concise writing style—writing essays are not goodevidence for this! They will expect you to have a goodknowledge of current affairs and an inquisitive nature, and to be flexible—especiallywith regard to working hours. Many demands can be madeon your time, so how experienced are you in putting in extrahours? Two key qualities of journalists are an inquisitivenature and the ability to ask the right questions atinterview! The best questions to ask are those that you really would like to know the answers to, rather than those you can find in books on interview skills. If you research a company well enough, you will find a number of questions naturally arising that you wish to be answered. You should, though, concentrate on questions that show your interest in, and motivation to do, the job itself, rather than the rewards it will bring.【诱思导学】1.Do you think what are necessary for a successful journalist?2.Which one of the following can replac e the underlined word “inquisitive”?A.Creative. Teaching Design
(Book 5 Unit 4 Reading)
MY FIRST WORK ASSIGNMENT
--“Unforgettable”, says new journalist
Teacher: Shen Xiaoli Chongqing Changshengqiao Middle School
I. Analysis of the teaching material:
The topic of the unit is “news”, and it is related to making the news and being a journalist. This period is the second of the whole unit after “Warming-up”. It is a reading & writing class. The passage is presented as a conversation between a new journalist and his boss, which introduces how to be a journalist. The passage presented as a conversation is easier to understand, however, the terms in the news industry and the slang may hinder the students from reading.
II. Analysis of students:
Although a conversation seems to be easier to understand, it will be still difficult for the students to get a clear outline quickly. Therefore, the teacher needs to guide the students to sort out the thread by using the questions in the passage. Besides, as senior students in their second year, the students know something about the news and the related jobs from their real life. Thus, it is possible that the students can offer some other instructions on how to be a journalist.
III. Basis of the design:
1. According to “English Teaching Curriculum Standards for senior schools”, the senior Two students (Level 7/8) are supposed to :
1) to acquire and process the main information from the text.
(能从一般性文章中获取和处理主要信息)
2)to understand the different views and attitudes in the text.
(能理解阅读材料中不同观点和态度)
3)to write a short passage or report based on the information from the text or table.
(能根据用文字及图表提供的信息写短文或报告)
2. According to “English Examination Syllabus for College Entrance Examination”, the students are supposed to be tested in:
1) understanding the structure of the text; (理解文章的基本结构)
2) understanding the main idea of the text; (理解文章的主旨大意)
3) understanding the details of the text; (理解文章的具体信息)
IV. Teaching Objectives:
At the end of the class,
1. All students will be able to list the instructions to be a good journalist and give
reasons based on the text.
2. Most students can write down simple instructions/ suggestions on how to be a good
journalist except the ones from the text.
3. Most students can use the questions in the conversation to get the structure of the
text.
Focus:
The students will find out how to be a good journalist through reading the passage.
Possible Difficulty:
Some students may find it difficult to give others instructions to become a good journalist except the ones given in the passage.(Possible solutions: 1. Ask the students to finish the task in groups, in which the other members may bring some ideas. 2. Use other resources to give students ideas.)
V. Teaching Procedures:
